haha KoP! That would be a holey pizza indeed.
I drew a certain someone yesterday:

To be fair, i don't think there's more than a year between Origins and Awakening. People can take way longer than that to get over death of a loved person (and some don't get over that completely ever) so in a way, that whole thing how the players complain some bit of pep talk wasn't enough to "fix" him ... it can be pretty dicky.Sarah1281 wrote...
He had that in Origins and he seemed to have completely forgotten about that by the time Awakening rolls around. Are we supposed to constantly be on 'keep Oghren from sinking into depression' duty?
I know but no matter how badly I may feel for Oghren I dont' see him ever doing anything to try to help himself and it just seems like he's one of those people who will keep making the wrong choices and destroy all the positives in his life so if you want any chance of trying to stop that you'll need to always be around to prevent him from self-destructing and that's a pretty big commitment.tmp7704 wrote...

And if you're not staying with the Wardens and he won't go back to Orzammar (or to go live at the tTwer, or in court, or Highever, at the new Dalish land...basically anywhere not with the Wardens) then I'm not sure exactly how you could possibly be realistically there for him in the long-term.tmp7704 wrote...
Oh definitely. It's the sort of commitment only a true friend would perhaps make.
No, obviously if the Warden picks some other things to do instead then they can't help Oghren with his issues. I just think it should be then recognized that yes, he won't really get better on his own (at least not in such short period) Instead, often enough there seems to be annoyance along the lines of "Oh, but i gave him five minutes of my precious time, why is he still moping around like it didn't matter? Drunk loser".Sarah1281 wrote...

Oghren is even *more* obnoxious in Awakenings? Gak. I shall finally be playing it when the patch comes out. Well, forewarned is forearmed...

I warm to Oghren in his farwell speech at the city gates. Too bad we don't get to see more of that side of him. Then he's right back to ugh at the post coronation. Sigh.Kryyptehk wrote...

Not so much obnoxious, more like a horrible person and a dead-beat father. I really liked Oghren in Origins, but I just kept him in Vigil's Keep during the game and when he died in the end I didn't reload to change my ending.

Must I defend Awakening Oghren here? It's my opinion that his amped up obnoxiousness in Awakening, and his deadbeat dadness, is a direct result of his own inability to live up to what he imagined his life would be like after the Blight. He helped a hero, restored his honor, found a woman who could put up with him and was respected in the army...
But he doesn't deserve any of that, in his mind, and he's still hung up on Branka so he self-destructs all over the place and is over-the-top in such a glorious way that I feel like he's trying to get the Warden to give up on him being anything but a drunken-killing machine so he can wallow forever in his own worthlessness.
If you save him again in Awakening, he seems to find a place for himself in the Wardens where he can do what he loves, be somewhat respected and still be a presence in his baby's life without being around so much that he'd ruin him/her for good (which is, I think, something he fears).
I find playing it that way makes his arc seem incredibly believable, because it undoes the whole trope of the Warden saving all their companions with minimal effort. Oghren takes a lot of effort and ends Awakening somewhere between where you first found him in Origins and where he can be at the end of Origins.
Yes. Yes, you must.SurelyForth wrote...
