This is my favorite Aimo comic:

That's one of my favourite comics too. I should do more Orzammar life-related stories, but during planning they'll somehow grow into graphic novel lengths that they get pretty daunting to tackle OTL Sigh...epic dwarves are epic.

Not to mention the difference in what Trian says if you agree to go right to the Feast (well, after winning the Proving first). If you're a girl he says that maybe Bhelen was right that you're not just useless breeding flesh and if you're a boy then he says that maybe Bhelen was right that you're not without regard for your duty and station. What the hell? If you're a girl he's actually more of a jerk if you DON'T antagonize him...

I playfully antagonized Trian all the way, so I didn't get the 'breeding flesh response'. I suppose that particular reaction of his is perfect for calculative/deceptively meek DNF players, because it sure as hell makes it a lot easier to to gut him should they choose to.

Oh Trian, your mouth gets you killed sooner or later.

Also, something I noticed from observation when comparing my DNF playthrough and Gilsa's notes; If the DN decides to support Bhelen, his responses comes across as far more...pleasing (kind would be too far a strech) towards a sister than a brother after his ascension to the throne. In the latter, he sounds vindictive as ever, especially if asked to take in the DNM's son. Why is that, I wonder?

You know, fratricidal tendencies aside, Bhelen just keeps getting more and more awesome, doesn't he? http://social.biowar...cons/tongue.png I think I'm back to supporting him now.

He played the game very well in a society that is built on outmaneuvering and eliminating rivals to power, so it's understandable why he'd vie for the throne by means of subterfuge(especially with that dick of an elder brother who was sure he will become king unchallenged).

Here's a Bhelen tribute, because he is a...

I am genuinely sad now. :(

Yeah, me too. Reading that made me go from 'I'm not going to act on a rumor and I don't trust Bhelen anyway but if Trian dies I really wouldn't care' to distressed at the thought he might try to kill me (still not trusting Bhelen but definitely underestimting him) and horrified when I found the body. And then, of course, I decided to start naming Dog after him.

Stupid jealousy... Posted Image

That looks like Oghren.

Hmm . . . I suppose he's a bastard too. Just not the magnificent kind.

Yeah, he really didn't seem all that upset that you survived (unless, of course, you're working with Harrowmont) and he even mentions something about how sometimes casualties are unavoidable so I tend to see it as he really wanted the throne, Trian was seriously pissing him off, and the fact you were older and more popular than him was a problem to be solved but once he's on the throne why not come back?

Also, something I noticed from observation when comparing my DNF playthrough and Gilsa's notes; If the DN decides to support Bhelen, his responses across as far more...pleasing (kind would be too far a strech) towards a sister than a brother after his ascension to the throne. Maybe you remind him less of Trian as a girl? His malice towards Mardy's son is even more confusing when you think about Rica and Endrin Jr. so it's not like he really has a problem with noble hunters.

And I love the tribute.

Because Bhelen can't be mean to women.

It's a requirement for being a magnificent bastard.

(He's just pissed that his brother got some nookie before him. All brothers are like this, don't be fooled.)

I guess it's just an immutable part of the DNM's background that he wasnt the "type" to use noble hunters or.. whatever.
Especially since none of the initial dialog options can  convey an understanding of their line of work. So it's always surprising and amusing to Bhelen that you would father a child through those means.
I guess, also, the DN has never before encountered Rica (eventhough Trian has, multiple times).. although I usually write it off as my DN not deigning to remember her name/face, and thus appearing to meet her for the first time when its probably the 3rd time.

Even if there was no option to call him out on the Rica thing, I don't see why theres no option to disappear on some tangent with him, defending your son.

But when he says he'll put them in the smallest palace, I can't tell if he's joking or not.

Trian: "Wait--what's that you're wearing? That dagger?" (Surprise, curiousity, a little foreboding.)

Can you actually get that dialogue? I think I've had it equipted before when I had this conversation. What is the dagger serving as a bribe for? He doesn't ask anything of you and you don't even really find out who he is. I thought he just wanted to increase his business. And, I suppose, to earn some favor should you become Queen, but a ruler favoring one weapon merchant over another is hardly anything scandalous.

Unless they're Mardy. But who knows? Maybe he was perfectly polite when he was throwing her out and only called her a **** when he was speaking to his brother.

Maybe he just doesn't want to antagonize Bhelen on the subject before his son's future is secure (and given that he's an exile Bhelen is well within his rights to ignore the child).

It did feel like he held some other power of me with that. The difference between "these treaties obligate you to lend soldiers" and "...please take my son in" was very noticeable, and a nice RP moment. I can't imagine the DN ever having to supplicate to Bhelen before.

Oh, yeah. After all those years of grovelling (to Trian more than the DN most likely), I can totally see him milking that for all it's worth.

Just finished the rest of the "King wants to see Trian" conversation (finished up tree 5 and tree 6) on the last page for anyone that was waiting for the conclusion.

Is this the only time 'Trian_Understanding' comes up?

Yep. Kind of anti-climatic.

@Aimo - <3 the Bhelen sketch. Poor Harrowmont. Nobody ever defends him around here! The man saved our lives, PEOPLE!

How did Harrowmont save your life? By giving you a sword and shield? He certainly did not stop Bhelen in the assembly.

Point of fact, if Bhelen had chosen to kill you and make a vote about that, then you would be dead.

He told you about the Grey Wardens (or told Gorim and let him see you) and without knowing that you would have just fought in the Deep Roads until you died because you wouldn't have known to look for them.

And I'm very grateful for that, which is part of why he lives in half of my DN playthroughs. But, you know, he's old anyway and would make a terrible king and wants to take your family off the throne...Plus Bhelen's such a magnificent bastard...it's a tough call.

Just tested this out a few times. Couldn't get that dialogue to trigger so either it's bugged or just cut out altogether. Too bad because that's an interesting tree and I remember wondering why he didn't say anything about it before.

You'd think Trian would acknowledge this at some point, especially if you choose to kill him because you putting up with him all this time would make it harder to believe you're plotting fratricide than if you're equally hostile. And thanks again for finding that. I'm sure it will come in handy.

Yeah, he sent Gorim with a message about the Grey Wardens being in the Deep Roads. Harrowmont did try to fight for the DN to be exiled to the surface along with Gorim instead of being sentenced to die in the Deep Roads, but Bhelen's supporters overwhelmed him. So technically, Harrowmont didn't *save* the DN's life, but he certainly tried. ;)

It's my canon that when he's king he makes the DN his heir since he wanted them to rule once Trian was no longer an option and they were instrumental in helping him keep his word to Endrin.

Considering it's either that or redo the Deep Roads all the time...it really is a matter of practicality. Posted Image

It piles up when you have a separate save before every "big" conversation to go back and check them.

Well, when you don't have toolsets it's kind of a necessity. I have four for the DN origin alone (both genders) and I still haven't gotten around to believing Bhelen.

Aimo, a little example for you of the dialogue for from this story (will be finished for tomorrow!)

"So on a scale of one to Oghren, how drunk are you?" Alistair asked, amused by her half collapse.
