Indeed. If you talk to Lord Dace first she says something about how your mother would be appalled by what you just did - although how she knew what you talked about, the fact you didn't DO anything yet, and how the word 'melted' comes up is beyond me - and then proceeds to explain what Dace was really after. If you don't talk to Dace then you can't talk to her but she says your mother would be proud of you. I think the two were probably friends since she's the only person who ever seems to remember her ever.Gilsa wrote...

At least Lady Helmi remembers her. She probably died quite some time ago to explain why she's never mentioned but even Rowan came up a few times and she was dead for, what, twenty years? And Maric was gone five but Loghain couldn't shut up about him...
Oh, really? Must look up her VO notes tomorrow! (Kid is on my main computer playing a game. Gonna kick him off soon. Or buy an ipad and make him use that, heh.)

Well if you wanted to see it it's not that far into the Origin. Just head straight to the feast, talk to Dace, then talk to Lady Helmi. That is odd, though.Gilsa wrote...

That makes sense. Aunn's mildly obsessed with her heritage and so the legends of the GW made her want to join up since the Paragon Aeducan saved Orzammar from the first Blight and so now that there's a new Blight brewing she wants to do her part. If she knew that she could have the throne without needing to screw over her older and possibly younger brother like Alistair can she'd jump at the chance. She actually kind of thinks its a flaw that she doesn't want to commit fratricide as that makes her overly sentimental and Bhelen's just more dedicated than she is. She also feels she's doing Alistair a favor by marrying him to Anora when she spares Loghain (because that's Anora's condition for marrying Alistair: if it's reasonable save her father and Riordan finds a way) because otherwise it only makes sense to execute him to head off rebellions and she was being - from her perspective - overly sentimental again. What can I say? She has no soul.Gilsa wrote...
No. You and I view the game through different lenses and have different ways of playing our nobles. I like being the commander and I like taking care of my crew (same role as Commander Shepard). Being in line for the throne herself, I understood Alistair's reluctance to that whole political game and she aimed to shield him from it. I did fail on some level to look out for the well-being of my crew when Alistair reeled in shock, but I made a tactical decision and stuck with it. I don't romance him on any other characters because I'm selfish. Only the best for my dwarf and thus I don't want to share him with the elves or the humans.Sarah1281 wrote...
Why only on a dwarf noble? My DN is actually the character most likely to realize that Alistair's in denial about the throne and what a bad idea it is to get together. Do you go to Redcliffe last or something?Gilsa wrote...
I wouldn't say that I like Alistair less and less with each playthrough, but it's easy for me to tune him out. I'm only interested in romancing him on a dwarf noble.(I pair up my elves with Zevran anyway.)

A VERY competent bad guy would be a nice change.
Bhelen came close but he couldn't quiet pull it off . . .

Duncan:I will not ask what happened. You are the child of my old friend, and do not deserve to die in this pit
DN: I cannot. For what I did, I deserve this death
Duncan:You may indeed kill some darkspawn, but eventually you will die of starvation, and then what will your life have accomplished? Fight with us. Restore your honor by destroying those who threaten the last Dwarven cities.
Or take the easy road and die a quiet death knowing your ancestors will reject you.
DN: I should kill you, old man.
Duncan: I shall meet my maker soon enough, I think. For now, i'll take that as a sign you still have some life in you. Come, take your punishment with me.
I had no idea Duncan understood Dwarves that well. That is just so motivational.
He didnt seem to have heard of the castless in the DC origin.
I always found myself lacking reasons to care about him, but knowing that, partially, he specifically cares about you and feels obligated to save you, is nice.
The DC recruitment is still better, though.

Really, is it any wonder she was good at dwarven politics? Just not quite as good as Bhelen sadly...
Another aspect to my noble is that she just lost her whole family overnight, so to speak, so Alistair also filled that role to a certain extent. Losing him at Landsmeet was deja vu. Did you play ME2? I see a lot of parallels between my ME1 romantic interest being pissed off at my character when he saw her again in ME2. He is convinced she is working with the enemy and walked away (although she did get an email afterwards apologizing for the outburst and the door is still opened a tiny crack for reconcilation). Alistair being pissed off at Landsmeet for siding with the enemy reminds me of the same ME2 scenario so I am hoping there will be character growth on his end and my character's, if they run into each other again. If not, oh well, I can't let a romance define my whole game. That would make my games pretty one-dimensional otherwise. =p
BTW, I am pumped for ME3. I can't wait to see what the reunion will be like. I swear, I will go bat**** crazy if they pull an Alistair in ME3 and make me choose between saving the universe for the final time or saving my love. It would be a sucktacular way to end it all.

Aye, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw his comments via the toolkit. I should look at it again to see if it activates the "forced conscription" flag because it didn't even look like he invoked the right of conscription on the noble. He just came across as a smooth talker.Radahldo wrote...

King Ansgar Aeducan loved seared oven-baked nug dressed in cream sauce flavored with deep mushrooms. Must be careful with deep mushrooms because they grow close to darkspawn bodies, which gives them their unique flavor and intoxicating scent. Eating too many can result in curious afflictions of the mind.

He really does come off very smooth. It's just what the DN needed to hear in that instance, since you can only get there by picking the "I deserve to die" option, right?
Hearing Trian's impassioned speech, and then Duncans-- very nice.

Duncan: "As leader of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden, I would like to formally invite you to join our order." (VO: serious, formal)
(IF: Murder_Plot) DN: "I cannot. For what I did, I deserve this death."
Duncan: "You may indeed kill some darkspawn, but eventually you will die of starvation, and then what will your life have accomplished?" (VO: persuasive, trying to get character to join.)
Duncan: "Fight with us. Restore your honor by destroying those who threaten the last dwarven cities." (VO: persuasive, trying to make the prospect sound appealing)
Duncan: "Or take the easy route and die a quiet death knowing your ancestors will reject you." (VO: he sounds a little scornful)
1. I will work off my crime with you.
Duncan: "Then welcome." (VO: satisfied)
Duncan: "We leave immediately for Ostagar to join with the human forces facing the darkspawn hordes, led by King Cailan." (VO: beginning to get urgent)
Duncan: "Stay close. There are still darkspawn around every corner..." (VO: concerned, businesslike)
2. Very well. You've convinced me.

Duncan: "I shall meet my Maker soon enough, I think. For now, I'll take that as a sign you still have some life in you." (VO: amused)
Duncan: "Come, take your punishment with me." (VO: this should be offered as a challenge)

Yeah, there's no "forced conscription" flag that I can see whatsoever.

What if you didn't murder Trian? I haven't played it in awhile but I vaguely remember his saying he wasn't going to ask (I explained anyway because I wanted SOMEONE to believe me and Harrowmont's faith hadn't done me much good) and then said that since I'd been interested in being a GW before but couldn't and now I had an opportunity and nothing better to do then why not join them?(IF: Murder_Plot) DN: "I cannot. So, this is my Lady Celes Aeducan. My game crashed the first time I made her, so technically this is the second design. Pretty close, though. A blessing in disguise, too, because I think a purple tattoo suits her better than a blue one.
So far, I'm really enjoying my dwarf playthrough!
