And Bhelen also sends off the sons of Harrowmont supporters to punish them as well. I love how it's truly a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation with who you put on the throne.

Not sure if I feel any pity for Harrowmont's sons.  Though where the hell is that mentioned?

"War is the business of warriors." - Paragon Aeducan (from a codex entry)

It's not like your sending off civilians to the Anvil with Bhelen as king. Harrowmont on the other hand...

It is from clicking on the dwarf NPCs after crowning Bhelen. I'll see if I can find the line in the toolkit.

Edit: Click on one of the nobles in the diamond quarter:

"They're sending the sons of every Harrowmont supporter for some sort of surface war!"
"I always supported King Bhelen. I swear!"

Uhm, that doesn't mean he makes em Golems. That just means they are sent to fight the Blight.

Leliana: "The Anvil's power goes against everything I know to be right." (VO: righteous)

Wow, that's easily the least persuasive argument up there. Okay, Leliana, it goes against your beliefs. Now tell me why I should destroy it?

Uhm, that doesn't mean he makes em Golems. That just means they are sent to fight the Blight.

Well, no, especially since they say that regardless but you know he's going to get them killed. Like if you side with Harrowmont until the last second and convinced Baizyl to fight in the Proving, if you talk to him he says his girlfriend has been forbidden to see him and Bhelen called him in for a 'private audience' where he suspects he'll be killed.

Do we have Bhelen's reunion with the DN up here yet? His tone in that conversation is really strange. It's like he's smug for most of it (slightly fanatical when talking about the 'fulcrum of true evil') unless you ask him about Endrin's death or his actions against you and then he just sounds angry and bitter. I can get why he'd be both at Endrin because the succession problem he's having are all his fault and once again he's the least liked child but why so put-out having to explain why he out of the blue (or so it must have seemed) decided to get rid of his sibings? I mean, the whole 'he really wants the throne' is obvious, but I still wanted to hear what he had to say.

I see where we went off track. I was just making an off-handed comment that Bhelen sends off those sons to fight the war. I didn't realize it was right on the heels of the golem discussion, making my comment look like I was talking about them being put on the anvil instead. Sowwy. =p

I'll go back and look. It's all a blur to me at this point. It's no extra work because it looks like we might actually get to 100 pages eventually and a lot of good stuff has been buried in these pages. I was thinking of copying and pasting the informational stuff over to the dwarf group cypher has created for easy reference. I'm very behind on all of my groups, ugh. So much catching up to do.

It's a group created in response to this thread. There's more activity here, but the group can be useful for specific stuff. Cypher ninja-made me a moderator and disappeared back into the ME forums so don't think I'm in charge or anything. =p

Before I forget, soignee also has a dwarf group called Pornzammar at Live Journal that all are welcome to join. (The name is a pun, not an actual description.)

you know, one thing that gets me, and has likely come up in this thread is the passage of time.

On my dwarf commoner runs, I usually save Orzammar for last, because, you know, Rica got pregnant and had a baby in in the interim. This time, I've decided to do it first, right after Ostagar. I figure it couldn't have taken more than two months to go to Ostagar and back (being generous here), so I find myself thinking about how this much time could have passed.

Excluding the possibility of a very short dwarf gestation cycle (possible, but nothing ever seems to say anything to suggest this specifically), I think I've come up with a theory.. sort of a ridiculous, but I'm tired and whacky :P

So like, apparently, all of the origin stories take place in each game. Dwarf noble, human noble, magi, and city elf seem to be the most blatant in their tie-ins with the main plot. Dalish origin has basically nothing to do with the plot, because it.. well it seems tacked on. Lastly, if you are not a dwarf commoner, you run into Leske when raiding Jarvia's.

So, I was thinking, Duncan didn't just go to Orzammar, he seemed to have gone all over the place, looking for warden recruits and reminding people of their obligations (like at the circle tower). He simply seems to have fortuitous timing for one warden candidate each time (the one you are playing).

What if after picking you up in Orzammar, he drags you around half of Ferelden for a few months? I know that might sound insane with the blight looming, but we have what seems like direct evidence that you at LEAST passed through Redcliffe on the way to Ostagar, as Duncan tells Cailan that Eamon will soon be ready to march.

Only problem is, unlike the other Origins, Redcliffe is actually on the WAY from Orzammar lol.

Okay, I don't think I'm making much sense as I'm barely awake, but anyhow..

Is this possible? Or is it really the only thing that CAN BE, considering the circumstances? Cause I'm gonna be headed to Orzammar soon, and it seems like just, "Wow, Rica, you're a mother? It seems like I just left..."

You know..

This thread has given me an idea. Someone should start a Dwarven (Master race) appreciation thread. No seriously, I would join.

This may as well be. Cypher0020 just needs to change the name.

Woo, found this on page 51. Do we still want the thread title changed to this? I can PM Cypher and ask her to do this.

No other origin makes you actually think about it, and I haven't played a commoner who went to Orzammar first in over a month.

Just never thought about it before.

Yes.

Edit: even though we all know that the Qunari are the real master race.

I can totally see my DN going to Par Vollen with Sten and then coming back and pushing for a merit-based caste system when he returns as a Paragon (and later as a PARAGON KING).

Would have to make some adjustments (gender seperation/child raising) . . . but I think it would be a good thing overall.

You're trying to say that the oppressive sexist Qun is somehow better than.. anything?

1. Is it worse then what Orzammar currently has?

2. I mentioned getting rid of the annoying gender seperation thing yes?

3. No more oppressive then any other government in Thedas.

and how are the Qunari sexist?

sex-ism n.
1.Discrimination based on gender, especially discriminationagainst women
2.Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotypingof social roles based on gender.

Sten: Women are priests, artisans, farmers or shopkeepers. None of them have any place in fighting.

It is good to know what words mean.

Which does not mean that the Qun considers women to be inferior to men. It just means every gender has its role and purpose. Yes, it's sexism, but it doesn't have to be negative and oppressive.
