What do you think happens to Rica if you're not a DC? I'd assume she only gets to become an Ambassador if you're showing the world how awesome her family is. She'd still be the mother to the heir to House Aeducan (well, unless you sided with Harrowmont and are a DN but then Endrin could be your heir given your unlikeliness to have children, DNM and Mardy not included of course) so she'd probably be in a decent place. I really want to see the DN meeting up with her after having killed the father of her son as well as, in her mind, causing all of the mess with Trian and the original Endrin in the first place. She'd probably hate her but know she needs to play nice for Endrin's sake and so she doesn't get booted from the family.soignee wrote...

See, with a DC I could do a romance but it I tried it as a DN I would end up being the bad guy for breaking up with Zevran after the post-coronation parade because now I can go back to Orzammar and he can't. Better to just avoid it altogether.
this is true. DC have fewer obligations, and seem to have more control over their Destiny. Rica (the only Orzammar leverage you have as a Brosca) seems to look after herself pretty well; she makes a pretty Imelda Marcosesque ambassador, at least in my head. That's not a bad thing, mind. I'm all for handbag politics.
Although I do have to wonder...if little Endrin can't risk going to the surface then who is watching him while Rica goes off to play Ambassador? Bhelen probably has better things to do as King and her watching Endrin was why she was raised up to House Aeducan in the first place. And it is nice to see she seems to love House Aeducan almost as much as I do.

I know he will, I was just wondering who he'll have doing it since that seems to be the casteless mother's responsibility in most cases.Costin_Razvan wrote...

The sons and daughters of nobles being brought up mainly by the servicing staff seems most likely.

In the chapter I'm working on I wrote that when you first come across Rica she explains that she's just a baby machine, pretty much, and the sons of Noble Hunters are raised in nurseries away from the Mothers that birthed them and they have visiting rights. Obviously she's not very happy about this, but I just felt that the focus is on the child and not the mother, and fair enough their status is elevated, but it doesn't mean they'll be anything else but a courtesan.
I get the overwhelming impression that the (noble) dwarven approach to children is like Victorian England- seen and not heard, even though so much focus is put upon the importance of family/heirs.
I half started a story where my Aeducan finds Rica and in her anger banishes her to the surface with a handful of money, which Rica refuses. I couldn't bring myself to finish it as it's pretty nasty.

Well, noble-hunting is becoming more common and it was said that the casteless mother was raised up to nobility to avoid having the noble son being tainted by association and so she could deal with all the actual child-rearing. I suppose there would have to be servants dealing with the children of two nobles, though, as some of them (Lady Dace) don't really seem like they'd be interested in dealing with the stickiness.Herr Uhl wrote...

And those dialogue trees were great. I love how the 'female' dwarf doesn't even care.
Do we have the dialogue tree for Gorim telling you that you're being fed to darkspawn? I know it's not much different if it's in a romance, but I was looking for the who conversation and I couldn't find it.

I would only be in your way.
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you. Hmm.
Bittersweet memories
that is all I'm taking with me.
So, goodbye. Please, don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
(Instrumental solo)
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.
You, darling, I love you.
Ooh, I'll always, I'll always love you.
