Hi All,

Zesban again.

I've written a small application that can be run from the same directory that you have the BDtS installer in. It helps with the process I've documented over at:

http://social.biowar...1/index/1942301

This process "fixes" the problem with installing Bring Down the Sky on a PC. After I wrote this post though some forum users expressed that this process is a bit intimidating. So I wrote an application that helps do this process for them. I have it hosted up at:

For now please contact me at bdtsappfix@yahoo.com until I find another host. I'll get it out to you as soon as I can! Thanks!

*UPDATE*
I have now (02/16/2011) submitted the file to be hosted at FileDropper. It can be downloaded from
http://www.filedropper.com/fixbdts. Please report in if this link does not work or becomes broken. Read the page carefully to make sure you are clicking the RIGHT download button as well.

I will not be checking this thread very often in the future, nor will I be checking the bdtsappfix@yahoo.com email box very often. I do hope that this application helps community members moving forward and wish you all the best of luck!

[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]
Now these guys hosting the file are "free" because they want your email address. To what nefarious end I know not.  I recommend creating a trash email at www.gmail.com though just so you can get the download link to the actual file without giving away your true identity. The link they send you will work only once, but I don't have a better host for this application so this is what I can offer.
[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]

If you do have a better place to host this app, please feel free to host it there and add the link to this post.

This application was written on the .Net Framework 2.0. To run it you'll need to have that installed as well. Chances are you already do, but if for some reason you don't you can download it, free of charge, directly from Microsoft at:

32 Bit -
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

64 Bit -
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

For those of you who are paranoid about anything posted anywhere on the internet ever, what are you doing here? Seriously though, I'm making the souce for this application available here:

[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]
http://www.filehosti...889/FixBDtS.zip
[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]

[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]
Once again hosted by the same people, same recommendation as above. Also remember that this application needs to be run from the same directory that the Bring Down the Sky installer is in.
[NO LONGER IN USE LEAVING FOR REFERENCE]

Please keep in mind I can offer no warranty on this application. I can't promise that it will do anything beyond that it will ATTEMPT to help you with the process described on the other forum post. If this application does not work for you then I would post here and see if anyone else in the community can help, but I can not offer more than that.

A note to Bioware:

This application is not meant to be used to bypass any security features or other protections used to defend your Intellectual Property(IP). This application was only designed to help troubleshoot and support an issue that exists with one of your software components. It does not interfere with the registration or authorization of your software, it only offers a way to enter valid authorization keys in to the user's system registry and make them available to the standard installation software provided by your company. I accept no liability or responsibility for any who may use this application to attempt to damage or pirate your IP.

         Thanks,
               Zesban

Edited to add reminder to run the application from same directory as BDtS installer is in.
Edited to add new download location.

For getting that download link without giving out your real e-mail address, I recommend http://www.mailinator.com/

It's a site that lets anyone check any mailbox on the site by name. So while you of course don't want to use it for anything serious, it's perfect for avoiding address-grabbing sites. You would, e.g., give the download site the address "bdtsacess@mailinator.com" and then go to the Mailinator site and type "bdtsaccess" in the box.

awsome your the best. I tried your manual way but that wasn't working because it actualy didn't bring up the key window and would just crash, but with your app i was able to click the close key window button and it installed fine. this was a really anoying bug. I was begining to wonder if I would have to risk getting a cracked copy of a game I own legally which is so stupid.

Hi All,

I understand the URL isn't working for everyone. I'm working on a new place to host the file, I don't have my own host for this after all, but in the mean time you can email me at BDtSappfix@yahoo.com and I'll be glad to email you a copy. Please excuse me if it takes a couple of days for me to get back to you as I'm working a pretty intense project right now as well.

Thanks,

Zesban

Wow, wish I would've had this earlier. I ran out of installations of my BdtS because I'm alwasy reformating my comp and stuff. I just backed up the entire game folder after an install of BdtS and Pinnacle Station, backed up the reg keys, and now I just copy & paste from an external hard drive whenever I reformat.

Nice work though.

Hi Zesban, I tried to download the exe file and the zip from that site, and both times it said that the file was not available. Just to let you know.

Thanks for the heads up G_Man_007. I'll look in to another host for the file.

Hello Zesban! I just wanted to ask if it were possible to access that application you wrote to assist in installing Bring Down the Sky. I am running into the issues with installing the DLC and am uncomfortable with altering the registry files manually. Thanks!

Awesome fix. I just got the game and couldn't get the DLC to install with my copy of Mass Effect on a different drive than my Windows one.

OH MY GOD!

I could never get this thing to work and long since gave up after trying so many different things and talking to tech support and everything. I just replayed ME and was browsing the forums and bam!

Wow it works. Thank you so much. It was the only thing I've never been able to get work on my PC lol.

Unfortunately it isn't working for me - I've used registry edits like this before and I followed every step in the manual post you had and again using your little program, but no luck I still get the message from the bastards at EA ''Due to security reasons.....''.

I just want to play Mass Effect again and enjoy the full experience with BDTS :(

Try installing BDTS under safe mode, using admin rights, it worked for my wife's laptop and the STEAM install of ME1.

There is also an alternative method of getting the install to run found at http://social.biowar...1/index/7672044 I suppose the thing is, as EA/Bioware are obviously not interested in resolving this issue (probably due to the fact EA hadn't bought Bioware before ME was initially released), then if there are as many alternative fixes up as possible people can use what works for them and it saves a single individual (in this case zesban) for spending the next 10 years supporting a game they posted a fix for off their own back.
