 Hi

I just got a new computer and installed Dragon Age Origins so things are kind of up in the air, but I can't get the camera to zoo with the mouse wheel.

I just checked and the button is set in the standard mode.
I also checked and the wheel is working in Aion, and normal use such as scrolling windows etc.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I did get the camera to zoom by setting it to the up down keys.

Anyone have any ideas about how I could fix this, it would be nice to use the wheel instead of the keyboard.

Mike

It's a bug. Lots of people are complaining about it (including me) - hopefully it's on their list to fix real soon now because it's driving me nuts.

I think it affects 64-bit Vista/7 users with Microsoft mice.

You CAN uninstall your microsoft mouse drivers and make the computer just treat it as a generic mouse. That will fix the scrolling in DA:O, but of course then you won't be able to use the mouse's other functionality outside the game. But it's a temporary fix in the meantime, at least.

Well since I know I'm not alone I guess I'll just keep it the way it is for now.

I set it to work with the up down arrow keys.

I'm still setting up the new computer anyway and I don't have time to really get in and play for a couple of days.

Same problem here. Using Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2,0 with latest intellipoint drivers. Have Windows 7 Home Premium. I plugged in a non-Microsoft wired mouse and the scroll works fine with that one. I'll try removing the drivers so I can use the Microsoft one.

I am experiencing this problem as well on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, with an Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0.  I just upgraded from Vista Ultimate x64 and didn't have any problems with the mouse, so its probably just Windows 7 x64.

Hopefully the workaround in this post works.

Same problem: using Windows 7 64-bit. Used to work fine under windows XP, but not after upgrading. I'll try updating my intellipoint software first, and then remove the drivers if that doesn't work. Interesting idea about the keyboard's zoom button... I'll have to try that.

So it turns out I didn't have the intellipoint drivers installed, just the default "HID-compliant mouse". Installing intellipoint did not help (didn't think it would, but who knows), and uninstalling the driver again did not resolve it either.

I've given up trying to get my Microsoft mouse to work (Comfort Optical 3000v1.0) and switched to an older, less comfortable mouse to play this game. Still using same HID-compliant driver, but this one works just fine for scrolling in Dragon Age.

Even after I installed the new driver for comfort optical mouse 3000, the scroll does not work but worse than this the pointer refuses to move over highlighted tabs and the quickbar icons not all the time but, well mostly and so you get there too slow even to have a chance at healing.

I have tried to fix this errant behaviour but have been forced to revert to an older 3 button wired optical.

This jerky mouse movement was in my nwn2 game with a wireless mouse but I thru that away and now this new (for me) optical comfort 3000 is basically going the same way, I knew trouble was coming when Windows 7 refused to load the software disc and installed the download.

I read a post about choosing a generic PS 2 when installing but I have yet to try and then its not the solution.

glad i'm not crazy...just installed on my new machine and started playing, and my mouse wheel doesn't work either. Wireless Laser 5000, with the intellipoint software. Also using Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.

Has to be the game, because it works fine elsewhere.

I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0, and I can't scroll in any game - with or without drivers. Works fine outside of games and in the Sims, but when gaming I have to forgo using the wheel.
But then, the mouse is older than my computer :P

It's a bug, definently - and hopefully it will be fixed officially.
A work around is to install your mousedrivers and software, and switch your mouse from your mouse type to a Generic USB mouse.

For example, I have Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 in reality.  These are my mouse drivers:

http://www.microsoft...e&sku=D1T-00002

Once installed and your computer possibly rebooted, I manually switch my connect device to Basic Optical Mouse 2.0 and it fixes the problem.

This should most likely / probably work for any mouse you may have because these are just generic mouse drivers that are being installed.

Let me know how it goes!

This is a bug in alot of products. I just fixed it in the Torque game engine. Companies don't read and quickly code. WM_MOUSEWHEEL is the culprit of this bug.

Essentially when you scroll your mouse, it sends a value positive for one direction and negative for another. WM_MOUSEWHEEL states these are sent in increments of WHEEL_DELTA. So alot of companies just take that value as a scroll increment, HOWEVER if you read further down it states:

The delta was set to 120 to allow Microsoft or other vendors to build finer-resolution wheels in the future, including perhaps a freely-rotating wheel with no notches. The expectation is that such a device would send more messages per rotation, but with a smaller value in each message. To support this possibility, you should either add the incoming delta values until WHEEL_DELTA is reached (so for a delta-rotation you get the same response), or scroll partial lines in response to the more frequent messages. You could also choose your scroll granularity and accumulate deltas until it is reached.

So they're SUPPOSED to build up the values until they reach 120 or more and send it in increments, keeping the left over to build up again. I could probably fix this bug in dragon age in 2 minutes. The irony is, as time goes along, more high resolution mouses will be coming out so the bug will become wider spread.

Yup.  That's the fix.  I was having the same issue in NWN2.  I just changed my mouse type to one that doesn't have tilt wheel and it works fine now.

Does anyone know if Bioware plans on addressing this issue on their end in a patch? I just purchased the game recently and am surprised this issue isn't fixed. I'm not real sure about how it install uninstall my mouse drivers, i don't want to mess anything up.
