That rubs everyone the wrong way? I recently conducted a social experiment in the Tali thread after a...heated...discussion in the Liara thread in order to find out their response to a nearly identical question. They responded very well, not at all what I was expecting. I'm sure all of you know how the Tali thread is perceived as well as how the people in it are perceived and treated. This led me to believe that the Tali thread and the people who post there would have more reason to be defensive than the Liara fans. Despite this, in an identical amount of pages as it took the Liara thread to devolve to threats to my safety, the Tali thread passed from honest responses (which were paralleled by the Liara thread) to taking my words slightly out of context (also paralleled) to vague insults and then (this is where the two threads diverge) acceptance of a difference of opinion.
Even after I told the Tali thread that I used them in an experiment, they still showed their class by taking it in stride.
The Experiment didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. All it said was that you shouldn't judge people by their reputations. Not every fan of a sweet and innocent character like Liara is good, and not every member of the Cult of Tali is bad.
This isn't to say that people in the Liara thread are bad because then that would be judging others based on their reputations. I don't even think that the posters in my heated argument were bad, just not what I was expecting. Conversely, the members of the Tali thead who were posting at the time aren't necessarily good, I still think they are creepy, but in an understandable human way.
I only post this because one of the Tali thread people suggested I do.
What is it about those Tali fans...

Before I said anything though I said very, very clearly that I wasn't trolling, wasn't trying to offend anyone, and wasn't trying to say I was right and they were wrong. All my posts were respectful. This is what I did in the Liara thread and i literally got threatened. One of them threatened to belt me. It devolved in 4 pages, which is how many I gave the Tali thread.

Seems to me that the haters are pulling the "all talimancers are creepy" stuff out of their asses, I've been lurking in that thread for quite a while now and 90% of the people in there are perfectly normal and reasonable people.

There's also always a select few who shout louder than others, and ruin an otherwise good topic. This sometimes gets to the point where it's the only thing being talked about. The Liara thread was civil enough, for instance, until kraidy1117 challenged dink's post. This civility returned shortly after kraidy1117 temporarily left.
Which brings me to my next point: who you rely on for information. Those who take it for granted that the Talimancers are nuts might do so because they're getting their information passively from others who mention their disapproval or disinterest in passing (or more directly).
Everything is subjective. Comes down to who is shouting the loudest, and when.
