Okay, is this a serious thread where people can rationally discuss what happened in either fan thread?
Or is it about kittens after having hounded the OP away?
I just feel like dropping my post in here before this dies. If you don't feel like following it, the gist is, Liara rocks, Tali rocks, and can all the Talimancers and Liarasexuals who disparage the other actively please just frak off? (Being a LiLi lover who is almost jealous her Sheps can't romance Tali regardless, I'm a bit biased, but for serious, the two geekiest hotties in Citadel space should not have each others fans at each others throats!)
What is it about those Tali fans...

i read somewhere back that talking fictional alien language was the creepiest part about tali fans...then me and other thousands of fans are very creepy since i speak Klingon..

For what it's worth, I'm a Tali fan and I think this whole discussion is a subjective issue with no real grounding. Any fandom will have eccentric fans, it really means nothing about what the favorite character of these eccentrics are so I believe this discussion is null other than the fact that invoking fans may get negative responses. Whether you like Tali or Liara more, we all liked Mass Effect, I think that should be enough for us to be a strong community.

Regarding the OP's observations, my own theory for why this might be the case is fairly simple.
In ME2, Tali fans got their favorite character's role upgraded and expanded, with Tali given a great deal more character depth and made a LI unlike the first game. Bioware really pulled through for them.
In ME2, Liara fans got their favorite character completely pushed aside and in the brief appearance she does get, Liara is radically changed. Bioware screwed them over.
Thus, it seems natural to me that the fans of the character who got pwned will naturally be more defensive, they didn't get what they wanted the first time around so they perceive a greater need to fight for it the next time around. Tali fans did get what they wanted, so they're content.

hey i like her chicken legs..that along with the VA are the reason i like tali..i am serious by the way...but it is true bioware drop the ball with both Liara and Ashley...many were disappointed...i know i was..well according to how things work...tali will have a cameo in ME3 and that's about it.......yea right...something tells me we will see a lot more from everyone from ME1 and 2 in the last part..it is the final batlle,no ?

For those of you who know me, you all know how I feel about the thread at times. The thread caused me to make this:

I've been posting in the Tali thread chain for quite a while, and I've taken the time from my spare time to read every page that the three threads have produced.
While I have locked horns with Drathan, Jake, KFD, Cheesecake, Dante, Jakeog, Cameras, anyone who has told me I have a pole up my ass, anyone who has ignorantly called me a troll, I still find the thread a nice retreat to go. Yes the artwork (specifically some of the ones that Jake posts....no offense, friend) and the random internet crap (Drathan) can be REALLY irritating, there is still a ton of Tali discussion. I like to boast that my older thread may have had more as far as ratio, though the attraction of a 5000+ page thread is something that attracts fans who are normally just lurkers to actually post. We put up polls that have Tali because she is our favorite character (At least for 98% of them).
People hate having Tali included in polls because, well, look at it. They are all ridiculously one sided. Hell, Tali beat out Shepard for favorite character: http://social.biowar...2860/polls/3717 (By the way I was the vote that put Tali up to tie with SHepard at 184-184, you can thank me later). We were stickied at one point. The fact that our thread was stickied caused fans of another thread to complain about ours. I won't say which, though they are quite violent in nature. We were called "rapists" by the fans of another character. We have been called every name in the book by another group. One group referred to us as stupid because the majority of us are males. The only group that has really co-existed quite well and "accepted" us is the Miranda thread (Comtrav we still need to go golfing
).
I can understand why people may hate the thread or the people that post in it, though most of the weird crap is posted by a select few, who don't care how you think about them. I've come to accept that fact and respect them for it, as it is something they believe in. Drathan is still an ass, but I deal with it. Start a topic in the thread about three hours before this time and you'll get some pretty well-structured responses. Post during the day, and you'll probably have to re-post, as our thread moves at FTL speeds. Not to mention I think we have enough troll posts in our thread to make enough pages to where it would equal to more than other fan threads. It's a constant battle, what with people spamming fat Tali and dead Tali images in the thread. You don't see (the vast majority of us) going and trolling other threads.
I don't know if what I'm saying is chronologically making a lot of sense (super exhausted while typing this) though I'm just saying if you go in there, and you ask an honest question (probably will have to re-ask it because it's so fast) you WILL get an honest answer. Just try it people. "Ooooh it's creepy to go in because one guy is posting pictures, therefore all the people in the thread with quadruple digit commenters are like that." Get over that, if I'VE learned to ignore it, then so can you.
There is also the idea that people hate something that is popular, for the pure sake of going against the grain. This is a video game, everyone. To take it as seriously as some of you do, then yeah. I've gotten into arguments with some of you before, mainly because there was blatant insulting (the ones who called us rapists got a pretty harsh response), though that's a different case. If someone likes Tali, let them do so, if someone likes Miranda, let them do so. It goes on and on, just accept it, sheesh.

Oh. Though I may not have the proverbial duties of an OP anymore, I will always defend my fellow posters from ignorant and stupid insults. Even some of the ones I openly dislike, I will still do so. Though I just do it in a classy way.

Honestly, ME fandom is a baby when it comes to overall creepiness--I include the Tali fans in this; they may be numerous, but compared to the sort of thing that I've seen in my time on the internet they're casual fans. Nobody thinks the characters actually exist. Nobody's in an astral plane marriage. Nobody's started a cult. Nobody's sending fanfiction to the voice actors/writers or otherwise harassing them. Nobody's started an elaborate string of alternate usernames to inflate their own popularity. Nobody writes pages upon pages about why the author is a racist for not validating their favorite pairing. Nobody carries around a pillow/figure of their favorite character and treats it like a person.
As a Final Fantasy and Harry Potter vet? Mass Effect fans are goddamn normal. A few filthy running jokes on a forum are all in good fun. If someone gives Keener a 'LIQUID SUGAR' sign, I'll accept the 'creepy' label with dignity. Before then, though? This is nothing.

well u have 5000 pages..u claim tali is the best character in ME universe...some of u worship her(yes i've seen that too)...while 5000 pages is something to apreciate..it's not when all u talk about is how great tali is...besides the usual normal chatter...i am a fan of the character..but only becuase of her VA and some of her skills ig...i find her story weak..my personal opinion...to each his own

We have 6696 pages. Yeah, like I said, there are some select people who are different, doesn't mean we shun them away. It's your opinion of her, I respect that. I don't agree with it, though I'll defend your right to say it to the death. I don't think any lower of you for doing so. I'll just fix one thing for you: "To each his/her own." That's exactly how it should be.
Edit: Though maybe I've gone on and emphasized size? Didn't mean to come off that way. I don't appreciate that we have all those pages. I appreciate that there are people dedicated to getting that many pages. Even if I don't agree with some of the stuff being posted, that's life/internet and I've learned to accept it. Ask anyone. If I can accept the stufff being posted, anyone can.

Dude...I could chat for 1000 pages on my own about that, Read the discussions in the group link I posted, most of my reasons for liking the character there. Though Tali is tied with Legion as my favorite, maybe I should point that out.
