not every single one of are conversations are about Tali. We have talks about quarians in general such as their biology for example, what would be the color of their skin and so  on. yes you have seen over obssessed Tali fans but as you have never seen a shrine or church of Tali have you we're not a cult. As I said before all of the support groups are exactly the same there's literally no difference I've lurked in all of them.

Tbh I find the Tali thread only slightly creepy because of how active it is and how much of the forum it encompasses.



Whilst I don't want to tar all Tali fans with the same brush and I myself thinks she's a great character, some of the Tali fans have gone a bit far and have seemingly forgotten that the character is in fact a video game character. I mean I'm all for fan art but it's the the way in which some Tali fans hold the character with such a high degree of personnel attachment. People actually talk about her like she's a real person and how they want to live on the Quarian home world with her. I'm pretty certain there's some fan fiction floating round to which borders on soft-core erotic fiction which to me, seems kind of weird and quite sad.



As I said, this is only a small minority who have an unhealthy attachment to the character and who's escapism has gone a little to far. I think all LI's have those fans who take it a little to far and seem to have reality slightly distorted, it just so happens though that within the Tali fan community there seems to be slightly more..

Here's how the game works.  Your host is going to go on random.org and generate two random numbers.  The first is for the page of the current Tali thread, and the second is a number from 1-25, corresponding to the post number on that page.  And the game is over when we find a post on the Tali thread that is:

A) More than just a one-line post or reply
 Not just an image or a solicitation to read a fanfic
C) Not just somebody signaling their entrance or exit, asking what they missed, or generally doing something OTHER than actually having a discussion about something Mass Effect and/or Tali related.

So that you can understand why I seethe with rage whenever a Tali fan comes around to wave their e-wangs around about how many pages they have, when this utter dross is what they're celebrating.

Are the other character threads innocent of this? Hell, no. But I enjoy visiting the threads of characters like Samara and Jack, and if they ever turned into something like this, I would leave.

Exactly... I don't mind the character.  I was glad to have her in ME2 but the Talimancers just ruined her for me.  The stuff they post sometimes is just sick.  Now every time I get bothered by one I just post this:

That rubs everyone the wrong way?  I recently conducted a social experiment in the Tali thread after a...heated...discussion in the Liara thread in order to find out their response to a nearly identical question.  They responded very well, not at all what I was expecting.  I'm sure all of you know how the Tali thread is perceived as well as how the people in it are perceived and treated.  This led me to believe that the Tali thread and the people who post there would have more reason to be defensive than the Liara fans.  Despite this, in an identical amount of pages as it took the Liara thread to devolve to threats to my safety, the Tali thread passed from honest responses (which were paralleled by the Liara thread) to taking my words slightly out of context (also paralleled) to vague insults and then (this is where the two threads diverge) acceptance of a difference of opinion.

Even after I told the Tali thread that I used them in an experiment, they still showed their class by taking it in stride. 

The Experiment didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.  All it said was that you shouldn't judge people by their reputations.  Not every fan of a sweet and innocent character like Liara is good, and not every member of the Cult of Tali is bad.

This isn't to say that people in the Liara thread are bad because then that would be judging others based on their reputations.  I don't even think that the posters in my heated argument were bad, just not what I was expecting.  Conversely, the members of the Tali thead who were posting at the time aren't necessarily good, I still think they are creepy, but in an understandable human way.

I only post this because one of the Tali thread people suggested I do.

Congratulations on discovering that people aren't 2-dimensional caricatures?

Besides, the perceived hatred of Tali-worshippers and other zealous fans is greatly exaggerated - typical pluralistic ignorance at work.

I like Tali ever so slightly less because of this community. That's the simple truth, no matter how well-adjusted, normal, good people most Tali fans probably are.



As for the "experiment"... it is worthless, really. If the message was simply that most fans are good people and we should all be able to get along, then fine. But that is clearly not what people are getting from the OP.
