I don't understand. Didn't they cheat? What exactly happened?
Someone came up with the idea to use the IMG-Tag function of BBCode to generate "clicks" an asked BioWare if this was "legal." BioWare did not say anything for some time so people started using it. after a bit one employee, Stanley Woo, said the following:
"Most image tag exploit posts are edited and links are removed because they are similarly spamming the thread in which they are posted, usually in non-link exchange threads. Because the image tag exploit is a little sketchy, I'm a little stricter in when and where people can post them. Like regular links, I have little to no problem with people posting links to their signature blocks or in threads specifically designed to exchange links. Throwing the links around willy-nilly is what gets folks in trouble."
This seemed to give the go-ahead for IMG-Tags in signatures. However soon after that post, within hours in fact, Chris "Evil" Priestly wrote this:
"We consider this an exploit/cheating and are tracking it. Anyone found to use it will lose their tokens Tuesday morning before the auction begins.
Posting something and asking people to click on it is fine. Posting something that is going to automatically generate clicks for you without reader approval (willingness to click) is in our opinion tantamount to cheating and will not be tolerated."
Now some questions are:
Was there an grace period?
Why did BioWare not say anything for three days?
Are all the tokens going to be removed or just the URL-linked ones?
How will they tell who "cheated" and who didn't?
And why are they not saying anything now?
And why are they waiting until immediately before the auction to remove tokens?
Oh, wait, right. Because if some people think they're not DQd, they'll keep spamming free advertising for them.
I could sure use one of those gaming glasses...being a college student, my eyes get a lot of LCD exposure. But I think it's BS about the whole wiping the points on Tuesday. If you did something wrong, at least let the person know. If it happened to me, I'd be pissed, but I'd be livid if I got blindsided like that, espicially after spending a whole a week getting something like 2 or 3k clicks.
