Okay seriously, I give up. How do you do the Fade?

No potions drop whatsoever... so for the entirety of this long-as-sin subdungeon type thing, I'm stuck with what I came in with, which is to say something like 10 lessers, 2 regulars, and a major at this point... I think I'm on the second "island".  Which just doesn't make sense to me when mages can cast explosions which hit you for 1/2 your health and then stun you for another 10 seconds... seriously, how is this possible?  I mean, I can win the fights, but only by chain-chugging potions, which is clearly not sustainable at this point.

I had the same problem at that point - I ran out of potions very early in the Fade - stick with it, I think you'll find things will get easier as you go on. There are many benefits to be gained in the Fade...

When you get different forms to shapeshift to, you'll find that you don't really need to rely on potions anymore. They (apart from the mouse) tend to be pretty powerful, and each have useful resistances so you can pick one to suit the opposition.

You didn't mention what character you play, but I played (and am playing) a two handed weapon wielding dwarf. In my case, the "Indominable" skill certainly helped - that, and being a dwarf with pretty good willpower helps me resist many attempts at stunning me.

You should get the mouse form immediately, allowing you to sneak past most enemies until you get the other forms, which give you more options. (For instance, the mages are very fire-happy-- Burning Man form is immune to fire.) You can also heal yourself with Fade shapeshifting.

I believe the shapeshifting makes it so that it doesn't really matter what class you are or what abilities you have, because you can very well spend the whole time shifted. (although different stat spreads will affect the effectiveness of your forms, I believe)

Unless you are playing a Dwarf, the occasional Lyrium fix will be quite helpful for survival.

If you're a dwarf you really don't need the fix because your natural stat boosts put you a leg up of any other race in any class.

Just shapeshift and take advantage of each form's immunity and advantage. Burning Man vs. Fire attacks. Arcane Horror vs. spellcasters. Golem vs. most others.

I used Juggernaut armor and was a 2H dwarf character needles to say, I owned. I had like 60 health poultices and I didn't need to use the transformation for any but one battle which was when I was surrounded by 6-7 darkspawn and I decided to use quakebut I couldn't be hit by enemies for more then 10 unless they used heavy blow in that case it was only a 20

I'm stuck in the Fade too, but at the ending. I'm facing off against the Sloth Demon and I can defeat his ogre transformation with the Golem shape, but then he respawns as a fire=demon with full HP and i have no time to get to the Mana pools nearby. My lvl 8 mage, Wynn and Leilana all die horribly. All i have is mana potions and Shale's still trappped in the Fade, behind an annoying 2-horned statue. Please help. :(

Use the burning man against fire demons.

Did it with Elven Mage (very easy) and Elven Rogue (easy enough). The mage just kicked ass and you must understand it was Redcliff -> Circle Tower for her. Rogue was higher level since it was Get the Dalish -> Redcliff -> Circle Tower for her. The mage did it just relying on her spells. The rogue used the different forms a lot! Neither relied much on potion. The trick is to take it slow, not rush, use the forms and use the lyrium veins when you can.

Also, mage got mouse first, Rogue got lich first. The Lich form really helped the rogue out when said rogue started quest to get more forms.

AxeBlade81 - as mentioned by caradoc2000, use the burning man against the fire demon. Make the switch immediately when the ogre-form is defeated. Immunity to fire tends to make things a lot easier against a fire demon...

Ahh... see, I didn't know you could fight while transformed...

Oh, and I'm a Dalish Ranger, for what it's worth.  Speaking of which, it's a HUGE load of bull that you can't summon your pet while in the Fade.  Seriouisly.  That's like the entire point of the Ranger specialization, rendered completely useless in an entire dungeon/subdungeon.  Blech!

They wouldn't be very useful, if you only could use them to get across different barriers. The whole point of the Fade episode is to utilize the different strengths of the transformations: for example the fire immunity of the burning man or the crushing prison of the spirit form. This is especially true since you can't rely on your companions.

Also note that most transformations won't let you heal with potions.

Makes things more interesting, doesn't it? B)

You are probably using mouse clicks to travel beyond the statue. Use your keyboard W,A,S,Z keys to "walk" around this obstacle to get to Shale and return to the portal. Shale will be a big boost on damage to Sloth in its many transformations. Yes I got stuck there as well but I remembered the little steps that you can do but hitting W. Good Luck.Posted Image

If I might add a quick note ( I play a rogue but this can work with any character type), I had all the problem above but when fighting any of the boss demons or Sloth at the end I transformed into the spirit used the crushing prison, then the winters grasp, quickly changed back to my normal form and used all the strikes I could. I found this helps you get a quick advantage over your adversary. Does help if you have at least 2 more actualy fighting folks like another tank and/or rogue with you.

For dealing with Mage Asunder I always used the Fire man form since the big fireball technique usually kills most of the blood mages and revenants instantly or at least takes away a lot of their life.

I hate going into the Fade! I have played enough to know where to get the forms, kill bosses and get out in one hour. My husband timed me :o)

Thank you everyone for your contributions & advice :=) I rescued Shale from the Fade and have now defeated the Sloth demon, based on all the tactics you recommended. It was a such a rush and feeling of achievement after painfully defeating Uldred in the end of the Circle of Mages.

I have reached the city of Denerim where I've been bombarded with many various tasks and quests lol. Being here would not have been possible without every1's kind help. Thanks again :)

Good for you! Glad to know you made through there. My advice is take some time, rest and have fun doing side quests.  After dealing with Fade fiasco one needs it!Posted Image

Not recommended at the moment, but for later playthroughs, I agree with using the Skip the Fade mod. After 4 or 5 times with different PC builds, it just gets tedious otherwise.
