Those of you experiencing +5 (or +6) invarying approval: are you on PC or console?
BTW, Jaeger, what do your chars "read" their approval as once it hits 75+: "warm", "love," or "friendly".

It's because most "bugs" are just people not knowing what they're doing.

Looks to me like it's a mis-written script that's doing the "doing".
Now BTW if invariant approval resulting from gifts is a new "feature" of the expansion ... it sure isn't mentioned in any game documentation or the guide.

Uh huh. And what is it people are "doing" to cause their companions' approval to jump to 100 suddenly? I didn't "do" anything for approval to get stuck at +5 ... it's happening. And BTW, that's with every mod disabled - I checked.

Re-visit the definition for the word 'most.' Also, true bugs are typically consistent. With many people claiming different things, it's likely that some of them are just doing it wrong. So yes, my statement stands true. Nice try though.

Oh and BTW the reason why bugs might show up for "some" but not "all" is not that they're doing something wrong.
Some might be platform dependent. The Power of Blood bug appears to be. (And BTW I mean it shows up PCs, not on consoles.)
If the bug is dependent on quest order - as some of these seem to be - then they'll show up for people depending on order, or if they even do the sidequests.
Ergo, the fact that not all are experiencing them, doesn't mean it's something "they're" "doing" "wrong". (Well, other than not doing things in the "right" order, but last I checked, Bioware doesn't seem to believe in that philosophy re quests.)

Unfortunately, there's nothing I could have "done" to stick my approval at +5 ...

Feel free to keep trying to explain it, my statement still holds true. Many people call things "bugs" when in fact they are the ones doing something wrong.

The only thing I see people doing "wrong" is doing sidequests that register negative approval for companions without having the companions present.
This appears to trigger many, if not all, of the approval bugs. If you'd bother to read some of the other threads on the issue.
That's the scripts in the game "doing" it, not the people "doing" it.

Again, many bugs are just human error, and not actually bugs. Read that statement a few times, and realize that you are not even arguing the same thing. Instead of trying to write up a respeonse instantly, as you seem to be known for on here, read what I said and comprehend it.

Diminishing returns also worked for me. There must be some set of conditions to trigger the issue as it's not inherently broken for all.
As for what the ratings read, that varied as per normal as well, but 'Love' seemed to come up pretty easily. My female human was at love with Anders quite quickly and then the same with Velanna, yet I'm not sure why there...

Again, many bugs are just human error, and not actually bugs.
That's fine, trollboy, explain what human error (on the part of the player, not the programmer) causes ...
Legion of Dead heraldry to give a +20 stat bonus (now I'll concede maybe this was developer intention but I find that unlikely, even if the LoD has a rep for being suicidal and wanting to go out in a blaze of glory; every other heraldry gives a +2 bonus)
One of the merchants in the game to be stuck in an endless loop (Lilith)...
The Silverite & Cold Iron runes to switch to the wrong rune type ...
Those bugs are there for everybody, and players aren't making them happen through "doing" anything wrong, they're in the game.
Now I don't know what's going on with the approval bug, but the fact that it's not universal, does not make it a player problem.
You don't know sh*t about software, and if you claim that all bugs are universal and consistent for all, seems to ignore the fact that most sofware, and especially RPGs, is full of conditionals ....
If in the code, it says
IF Player puts on Troll Spray of Doom, then runscript X
and
IF Player put on Annoying Dufus Repellent of Pain, then runscript Y
Guess what .. if script X is borked, but script Y is not, only some people will experience the bugs of script X, and others will not.
That enough blank lines for you?

DOD, can you list what mods (if any) are running when you play Awakenings?
#41
Posté 23 avril 2010 - 05:00
Whatever's going on, it's not being caused by mods.
BTW, I seem to remember typically normal gift approval behavior on my first playthrough, too. This abnormal behavior only seemed to show up later. Unfortunately, I'm seeing it now (on a 3rd playthrough), but can't be certain when it started.

You disabled mods? From some mod readme files I read I'm not sure all mods are good to disable.
I never add anything without DAO-ModManager, it always removes everything completely when I disable, and makes it easy to re-enable.
There are a few things floating out there that say "just put this in your override folder," I'd really prefer if they were packaged as DAzips so one could add and remove using a tool.
