Why do these gloves have such a massive boost to armor? They give over twice the armor of any other gloves. Is there some sort of drawback i am missing? They are better than most set bonuses... For example with blood dragon armor it is better to take the extra 1 armor the gloves give you rather than the extra defense you get from the full set.

It's because it's not really accessible to everyone, it's in a chest in a random room in Orzammar. No drawback, just tons of armor, not much to other bonuses though.
