Which class and bonus power do you think is best suited for insanity.

I made it through pretty easily with a Soldier with Fortification.

Using all the guns in the game is a plus, and Fortification is like a second chance when you're almost dead.

I've also heard Infiltrator and Sentinel are good.

I've tried both fortification and Barrier for like 5 mins.

they both seem to work similarly,

is there much difference between the two?

All the classes are well suited for insanity once you learn how to play them properly.

If your looking for simplest one to go though with then probs Soldier.

The bonus power doesn't really matter but i took dominate for CC

you get cooldown bonus for barrier & GSB so they both better then fortification

This thread has some interesting results. Not so much about bonus powers, but most people who answered the OP's questions thought Vanguard is the most effective class on insanity, with Infiltrator as second. Many admitted Soldier is safer than Vanguard, but slower.

I'm doing it with a Soldier + Reave at the moment and I can't imagine it being any easier with any other class. It's the only class that's effective at any range, so you've got all your strategic options wide open.

I miss my Vanguard, though. It's just more fun getting up in everyone's face all the time.

Vanguard followed by Soldier. Both classes have all they need without the need of a bonus power. Reave however is op and broken so I guess you could nab it.

Fortification may be the worst bonus power in the game for an insanity run.

Sentinel I think (since it's a tank class)

For vanguards on insanity, slam is a decent option because it has low cooldown and can setup warp explosions, pull also works for this but you have to put 3 points in to shockwave which is a waste. If you do choose slam, you can max out slam, inferno ammo, squad cryo, charge and assault mastery which is a pretty decent build.

I wish I would have chosen Vanguard..I had already done Vanguard twice and Adept once, all below insanity. A lot of people recommended Sentinel on insanity so I tried it out. Basically it's too easy and just a variation of warp + warp then concussion shot, then finish enemy w/ guns. At least w/ a Vanguard you can charge and get up close and have some fun with the shotgun. I'd imagine Sentinel will get even easier once I get the sniper rifle.

Adept was fun with Singularity and a couple heavy warps and boom! Hopefully once I get some loyalty powers it'll become more fun. Right now I'm just trudging through for the achievement.

Vanguard is the strongest class, personally, I play as a Soldier, but either one of those and you should be alright. Do not play as an adept, sentinel, engineer, or infiltrator. You will never use tech (don't believe anyone who says you will) and the Adept's Biotics are extremely ineffective for actual combat.

Ever heard of cloak, drone and tech armor? Also, incinerate is the single best power against armor.

I have played the game on Insanity as Vanguard, Infiltrator and Soldier. I must say that I disagree with Vanguard being the strongest. The reasonning is the following. The Vanguard has an incredible offensive capacity and can potentially clear out any squad of enemies very quickly. However it is also the character that dies the most due the very offensive gameplay. I can not bring myself to believe that the character with the highest death-rate is the strongest character. As for the choice between Soldier and Infiltrator they are pretty much tied, maybe with the Soldier having a tiny tiny edge due to the fact that they can use Assault Rifles.

I think there's a difference between whats easiest and what's most effective. Having completed Vanguard, I can attest that it can certainly clear encounters very fast, but its high risk style leads to more deaths than most classes, so I found it most effective when I'd already beaten insanity once and understood the encounters more.

Having also done soldier and engineer on insanity, I 'd have to say, as powerful as soldier is, engineer is easier-definitely the least deaths, even though it was the first class I beat insanity with. With combat drone and dominate, it's very hard to get flanked, and the engineer is quite well suited to fighting YMIRs and Scions, as well as locking down any tough single target. I think I know enough about sentinel and infiltrators to recommend them as safe classes as well.

A new game Soldier with Reave, focus on upgrading for Hardened Adrenaline Rush, Shock Trooper, and Inferno Ammo. If you're playing the 360 version just when you're about to rank up a power to level 4 puch A and X at the same time, so you'll rank up the power to level 4 and still keep your points, you can still do that when you retrain powers. The Soldier is good if you don't like waiting for powers to recharge and use your guns more. Pick the Revenant and put an accuracy upgrade on it when you go to the Collector Ship.

I think infiltrator is the easiest, because of cloak (i.e. god mode) plus widow.

Soldier early game, Sentinel late game; once you have all the upgrades for Tech Armor the Sentinel simply stops dying.  Those are the safest, most consistent classes.

Vanguard definitely has the most potential for clearing the game quickly, but it's much less forgiving than Soldier or Sentinel.

What are you talking about! You obviously don't know how to play this game. Tech and Biotics are what the ME combat was made from! This isn't Modern Warfare with magic thrown in. The combat in this game is supposed to be stratigic, not only a 3rd person shooter. I look at Mass Effect as a stratigic RPG shooter, and your abilites (combat powers like warp and overload) should take priority over your weapon.

Like with ME1, the hybrid classes are really the best; the Vanguard and the Infiltrator. Vanguards has a big learning curve and can be hard, but Charge + Shotgun also makes them very, very fast. Infiltrators on the other hand is probably the safest class with Cloak and being the best sniper class, but they still probably have the best kill speed with Widow. I think there's even Infiltrators videos where they take the platforms really fast (anyone got some links to that, I think the record was ca. 2 min?)

Soldier doesn't really have all that going for it except the Revenant, but the Engineer is a pretty cool class in this game, if not the fastest. In my experience, Adepts aren't that awesome on Insanity, even Heavy Throw isn't very good except when you can throw someone of a ledge, so the Adept kind of becomes a Singularity + Warp Explosion one trick pony.

I have played with soldier, Adept, Vanguard, and Infiltrator. To me, the Infiltrator was by far the easiest play through.

Unless you play the extreme Aggro-Adept.

Also the new Biotic Damage upgrade can get your warp explosions to do nearly 800 damage. Devastatingly powerful.
