I got bored of it pretty quickly. For me, the game didn't have a hook, and lost its greatness after the beginning of the game started. I just didn't care about any of the characters. THere were a couple of main quests that were good, but the Dwarf questing bored me to death, and I soon gave up on the game and sold it.

*GASP!*

If you're strong enough to handle it, it's a nice glimpse into how screwed up this world is getting. But if you don't understand the world or the system that is in place, you will get sucked into a very bad mindset by playing this game.

Dragon Age: Origins is definetly one of the best games ever. By far superior to anything Bethesda ever released, that's for sure. If you're talking "worth it", that's relativ. Personally I paid 40$ for my game and played about 80 hours or so. I don't think I ever got more value for money from an RPG.

That said, the expansion does not offer the same ratio. By far. That one I also shelled out 40$ for and played about 12 hours. Jeez...

So, personally, I would recommed Origins, but not Awakenings until it goes down in price. A lot.

If a video game affects your mindset, lol.

If you like games that are overly easy and don;t make you think much, this is the game for you.

Yeah that's what this game is all about dude. It's hours and hours of READING. There's very little action and actual GAMEPLAY. That's what let me know that something was up with this game. It's just a propoganda tool like 95% of all the games and movies on the market now.

If you like o play an RPG in a D&D sort of world, than buy it and don't look back, you will truly enjoy the game. Look at it this way, 90% of the people who buy the game, never show up here in these boards. They just buy the game, register it. play it and enjoy all of the games fine points of entertainment. So it is up to you in the long run. Do you listen to maybe 3% of the people who complain, or do you listen to the 90% that never complain. I think the choice is rather obvious!

Good Luck!

PS:  Also make sure you look at who is complaining.  If they have NO game icons under their characters portrait, than they are trolls who don't own the game, but feel it necessary to come here and lay false facts to kick off arguments.  Look for the game ICONS.  No ICONS, bypass the comments and move right along!

Ehhh . . . I've only one icon, but if you look at my achievements you'll see that I've played through Origins several times and I've played through Awakening once. So that icon advice, while well meaning, is flawed.

But I think I was fair in my own personal advice. Buy the game. It's great. Just stick with patch 1.02a until EA/BioWare fixes patch 1.03.

The story is GREAT. If you play through a couple times you realize the depth of the characters - each has motivations unseen unless you really explore the back stories.

You can't go beyond Ostagar without dying between three seperate characters so this game is easy? Try getting "I'm kind of a big deal" (never dying) on nightmare. (Admittedly, this is pretty easy too unless you have a mod which increases difficulty, though not easy enough for you, apparently.)

This is a perfect example of a troll.. If you are new to the forums, then I will go ahead and tell you that they are EVERYWHERE..

Dragon Age is an excellent game and worth every penny, without question! If you are a fan of Bioware games in general, then you will love it as much as I do. One of the best (if not THE best) RPG I have ever had the pleasure of playing! I say take the plunge and go for it! You won't regret it!

I can't say for sure, but I think this varies from person to person depending on things like what mods you have and stuff because I have 1.03 and have had no problems with it what-so-ever. But as I said, I could be an exception...

So because i point out the games glaring faults and downfalls i am a troll?  I'm in awe of your ability to generalise everyone in a forum.  I guess if you enjoy sitting through hours of dialogue that reads like a choose your own adventure book, this is the game for you.  Keep in mind you won't be challenged in combat either.  If this is still your cup of tea than by all means go right out and buy DAO.

I really enjoyed Origins, flaws/bugs and all, and had considered buying Awakenings (particularly now that you can get it from EA at $20).  This said, I also saw that you can get TES Oblivion GOTY edition for $20.  I've never played TES; can anyone provide recommendation as to which would be the better $20 game investment?

When it comes to Fantasy RPGs, nothing can hold a candle to Final Fantasy XIII. I'm on my second playthrough right now. On PS3, the graphics are mend bendingly gorgeous. Makes any other RPG on the market LOOK last gen. Also the characters develop dynamically, and each character has their own latent powers in the advanced aspects of the game.

Save up for a PS3 and buy FFXIII. It comes with a Bluray player!

What is it about the internet that increases people's tendency towards hyperbole?

And to answer your question, yes (the OP).

It depends on the type of person you are.

If you enjoy reading, making interesting decisions, and immersing yourself in a storyline, then DA is awesome.

If you play video games to challenge your strategic mind (lol), or get an action fix (again lol), then sadly DA is not for you.

Actually, DA is best  for people in between those two extremes.

The storyline isn't terribly interesting, nor immersive relative to other RPG's I could name. The combat isn't as tactical and challenging relative to others either.

The totality, though, is a heck of a valiant effort by Bioware to combine the two.  Kudos for the effort, but sadly, it seems they erred a little  too much on one side, and the game does appeal more to the casual gamer.

Most of all, the Witcher has heart. What better way for a game to start than by a bunch of geeks who wanted to make a game in the spirit of their favorite book ?

Dragon Age is a lot like Mass Effect. They both have great characters and a deep conversation system. You'll love it

'Tis an amazing game when it isn't crashing - which is all too often now, I'm afraid.

Patch 1.03 has significantly nullified the enjoyment of playing for me and many others. What I would recommend is that you buy a hard copy, but don't patch it beyond 1.02. Do not install Awakening, either, as it patches the game to the latest - buggy - version.

I use the Steam version of DA:O which means I'm stuck with 1.03 until such time as BioWare patch the game again.
