Apocalyptium (n) - Senior-most Admiral of the entire armada and oldest of the ancient race of sentient machines, Known as the "Reapers"
The history of the race is a complete mystery, However, Several pieces of information were discovered by a team of SPECTREs who were sent to Ilos at the request of the council.
It was discovered that Apocalyptium, In 14,750 BCE, Staged a military coup d'etat against the repear governing council, Led at the time, By Corruptor, A leader who was deemed to be too young and brash. Since this time, Apocalyptium declared its self admiral and has ammassed the entire reaper horde together, Into one massive armada, To attack and harvest the council races.
After hearing of Sovereign's (A good friend of Apocalyptium and a reaper that was instrumental in Apocalyptium's coup) destruction, Or death, By one Commander John Shepard, Of the Human Alliance, Apocalyptium made Shepard's death its personal vendetta and ordered Harbinger to take care of Shepard.
It is assumed that, With Shepard's survival and the destruction of the Collector base, Beyond the Omega 4 Relay, Harbinger would have reported his failure back to Apocalyptium, Who would have had Harbinger dismantled, Presumably forecfully.
However, The destruction of the collector base destabilised the Acresion disc, Causing the galactic core to become highly unstable and extremely volatile, Making the Reaper armada's path to council space incredibly perilous, Unless they go around. It is hypothesised that approximately 1/3 - 1/5 of the Reaper armada will be lost in the crossing.

If you were a member of the Council, you'd name your Reaper "Geth" since Reapers don't exist.
