I just got around to beating ME2 the other day (on Insanity, no less :pinched:) and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the game on the whole. I'll probably always have some gripes with the Unreal engine, but that's not the game's fault.

Anyway, I'm not here to moan about the engine, I actually had something else I wanted to bring up. I don't know as I would call this the game's greatest shortcoming, but the flaw I notice most has to do with Shepard's dialogue options--or sometimes, not the options so much as what she says specifically. I realize the lines have to be written in such a way as to fit almost anywhere in the conversation, but the tone, syntax and/or topic of Shepard's remarks/queries can be strange.

For example: when speaking to Jacob after the first mission, he mentions having served in the alliance. Naturally, there's a conversation wheel option for the player to inquire about it, but Jacob's previous line ends with mention of his alliance service, but when you ask about it, Shepard says "You said you served in the Alliance?" like it's something she caught in conversation a while ago but never had the chance to follow up on. I would be surprised if there wasn't a better way to write and intone that reply in such a way as to make it sound natural either right after Jacob mentions it or later. Or maybe (and I doubt it would break the VA budget) conversations could flow one way as an ongoing discussion, and another way when broken up into fragments.

The example above doesn't bother me overmuch, it's just an example of one of the only flaws in ME (besides the engine! ) that I consistently notice. I'll try to remember more examples as I encounter them, but I remember a handful of conversation oddities in ME1 as well.
