DA has the best endings I have seen in any video games.Bioware succeeded in making the player feel close to the characters he/she played.

So in the WC ending, Alistair actually steps up to the plate for once? You really don't have to make him do it, like with everything else in the game? Interesting.

He says something like "this is the best king I can be" and actually BEGS to take the final blow.  If you didn't romance him he will let you do it if you insist but if you did romance him he won't take no for an answer.  He just takes charge then and does it over your objections (If you object).

not true...Al was at 100 love with my char and was in the party at the final battle, but when he said he was going to sacrifice himself, my PC was able to race past him and grab the sword before he did, gaining the US achievement

That seems impossible, since I believe that you can't override him at 100 Friendly if he's tagged still in love, let alone 100 Love.

I think one of the mods that fixes the post-Landsmeet dialogues adds an option to talk him out of killing the Archdemon, otherwise if he loves your PC you have no say.

ack, I think you're right...I have an endgame dialogue fixing mod...that's probably what did it.  that explains why I've been seeing so many posts saying it wasn't possible when I was able to

I thought it fixed dialogue glitches in the game that were supposed to work, not add things that were not intended

No crying. Just a bit of sadness. Great story line, one of the few RPG's that I've played and really hooked me in with a great story, and oh..yeah..the graphics. :)

True, but adding an option can't be a *Bad* thing?

Unless, ofc, there is no dialogue option in the mod for Alistair to grab the sword before you can. Surely the mod doesn't take that out?

What I mean is, the mod would be bad if it only allows:

1. You grab the sword before Alistair.

2. You willingly allow Alistair to sacrifice himself.

It should also allow:

1. Alistair sacrifices himself over your objections, as the vanilla game intends.

I've tried all but one of the endings (loghain), and I must say, none of them have the same effect as the pc US.

When Alister did it, I was so pissed at everyone I almost reloaded to do the DR.

Even Wynn gives that crappy cold comment about "people love living heroes"

I'm tempted to tweek the "slap morrigan" mod so I can slap Wynn as well.

Come to think of it, being able to slap everyone in the game would be much better.....

Yea I will never do the Loghain one. I can't stand the character so he always dies at the Landsmeet. And I SO agree about the WC one. OMG I was SO mad at the coronation after!!!

I always force Zathrian into removing the curse. To me the scene where the Werewolves say goodbye to the Lady of the Forest is the most touching part of the game, and certainly leaves my eyes moist.

On my first play I pardoned Loghain and let him kill the Archdemon. I remember the end as feeling profoundly melancholy in a way few games ever managed to make me feel. The feeling of loss that the game was over intertwined with the sense of loss my character felt at post-coronation. For loosing a friend in Alistair, for the goodbye from Morrigan even though we parted as friends, not lovers, and from a lot of other things not easily put into words.

@Xanderpein

Aye that werewolf scene always makes me choke up too. It means also Zathrien himself has finally found some peace with the past. My daughter gets mad that the Lady gets a flashy send off and he just slumps to the ground but I found it very touching and appropriate. Makes me tear up just typing about it.

Bryce in the Gauntlet also makes me feel the same too. Esp if you choose the "I should have done more" response to the Guardian. Its time to let go of the past and move forward.

Both very positive and powerful moments in the game.

Took the Ultimate Sacrifice playing HNF. Of course I would die for Alistair....didn't I love him more than life itself? And I was so depressed when he dumped me in order to continue the blood line (I hadn't hardened him). Of course I couldn't let him sleep with that black haired hussy who treated him so bad.....yes I cried. Cried harder when I let Alistair take the fall for dumping me the next time through, and I totally hated it when he left to become a drunk when I let Loghain live...hated that ending so much I had to go back and do it over. I love this game and the way it sucks you into the story and makes you believe it!

I felt sick to my stomach when Tamlin showed up in the Dalish Elf story....felt great satisfaction returning home in the Alienage Elf story. Nice to see my Dad.

I just hope that they create such in depth fine characters in the next full game....I would so hate for that not to happen.

How can people say it feels right to do US? Suicide is never right! And since Bioware isn't supporting that ending in awakenings anyway, it's completely non-canon now.

DR all the way!

Sacrificing yourself to save the world or trapping the soul of an evil dragon in a child, only to give that child to a mysterious witch who knows spells to take over bodies, just so you can survive in the end.

You're right.  The DR is the lesser of two evils.

I'm not talking about good/evil, I'm talking about what makes a better story.  US breaks the continuity.

No, you were talking about good and evil when you said "Suicide is never right!"
And the US only breaks the continuity if you play Awakenings with that character.  I didn't, so it doesn't break anything at all.

I deleted my US character...after all, she'd dead, Jim.

That aside.
