Shepard: *nervous laugh* "Uh, yeah... She's something alright..."

Liara: "Well don't leave me in suspense, Shepard! What's she like?"

Shepard: "Uh, well... She's a bartender named Atheda who lives right here on the station. Her dad was a Krogan, and her mom fought in the Krogan Wars."

Liara: "A...bartender?"

Shepard: "Yeah... And she also offered to sleep with me on the counter, but she decided against it since she just cleaned it...probably after the last guy she slept with...who may or may not have been Conrad Verner."

Liara: "..."

Shepard: "Well...I reckoned I better be hittin' the old dusty trail..."

*walks towards the door*

Liara: "Shepard, wait!"

*Shepard stops right outside the door*

Shepard: "Yeah...?"

Liara: You...wouldn't have slept with her...would you?"

Shepard: "Of course not... I need a sweet, sensitive, loving, and supportive woman..."

Liara: "Whew, that's a load off my mind..."

Shepard: "Which is why I've chosen Tali, Kthnxbai!"

True, but we're talking more than just looks here, we're talking personality. 

Liara has become corrupted, violent, and obsessed with revenge.
Tali's only flaw is the close-minded way she views the Geth, but pretty much all Quarians are like that, so she grew up around it and can't really be blamed for it.

True, but we're talking more than just looks here, we're talking personality.

I'm not sure it's that simple. I always thought Tali's affection bordered on hero-worship, which could be incredibly problematic for an intimate relationship.
Liara has seemingly been consumed by some delusional obligation to avenge Shepard, herself and her lost friend; but there are traces of her persona left if one digs into the dialogue.
- So while Liara may not be the innocent she was at the end of the first game, she's definitely a more complex character.

I really like both Tali and Liara. I wouldn't call Tali's attitude 'hero worship' so much as she rightly looks up to, admires, and loves Shepard who is indeed a hero. Its nice to be appreciated . And Liara is rather obsessed over the whole Shadow Broker thing, but then again he tried to give Shepard to the Collectors. So her seeking revenge on him for what he tried to do to Shepard certainly shows her love and devotion to Shepard, which again is a very good thing. Tali and Liara are my favorite characters in either ME or ME2, hopefully we'll get a LOT more time with them in ME3 (and hopefully my FemShep will finally be able to choose between them without having to use a mod) .

I don't think it's Hero Worship, I think she's just completely head over heels for Shepard, and admires his personality deeply. I think that both her and Shepard share similar ideals, and that Shepard represents what she wants to be as well. It's kind of a "Knight in Shining Armor" thing. Easy to mistake for Hero Worship, but really it's just true love.

I get the feeling that that's what Bioware was going for with the Tali & Jack Romances, trying to inch away from it being all about sex and more about love. Unfortunately, they did give Shepard nearly enough dialogue to make Tali's feelings seem 100% mutual.
