I purchased a valid CD key for the game from an online reteller. Rather than download the game from the game installer (since I wasn't sure where to find the game downloader), I just installed from a friend's disk and used my valid CD key. 

I can run and play the game, however, I can't figure out how to run it without the disk in the drive. Do I need a different installer? Or?

you need a valid disc to run the retail copy... check with your online retailer to find the correct installer (enabled to work without the disc)
