Is it Possible to get old Bioware games like Baldur's Gate availible for Digital Download on Steam or other Digital Download sites. I love Baldur's gate and I have lost half of my disks from when I bought the game back in 2000. I would rebuy the game if I could get it on Digital Download.

http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/ is the only centralized place I know of, but Bioware doesn't have their stuff on it.

Infinity Engine games aren't available anywhere for digital download. Not yet, anyway. It's something I might consider too, were it available. Then I could put my boxes into storage.

I wouldn't be surprised if legal issues are behind its absence.

Atari will have the rights; they rereleased all the Interplay era D&D games (Icewind Dale 1 + 2, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate 1 + 2) in the past few months.

Gog.com have signed a deal with Atari to release some games in April, but as far as I'm aware it's unknown which titles they are.

If you are looking for the Baldur's Gate stuff, Atari holds the D&D license and I have not seen old D&D games appear on digital download sites yet. I would be curious to what is released on GOG.com by Atari, but it hasn't been the D&D stuff yet.

However if you look into more of Bioware's back catalog you will find that Shattered Steel and MDK 2 are on GOG.com, and I bet you can find Jade Empire on a digital download somewhere...

Keep in mind also that games like BG are not widescreen friendly. There are user made patches to fix this but as time goes on they become harder and harder to find.

I am willing to bet bioware could make a nice little chunk of change by re-releasing BG with a widescreen patch for digital download, assuming they aren't stopped by 'last minute legal issues' because we know how lawyers apparently camp in the bushes outside of their head office and wait for the last minute before attacking.

I was looking for the Baldurs Gate games also because I always hear how good they was but I never played them. I went to some small game store today and found BG 2 for $10. I just wish I could find the rest of them.

LOL....widescreen only works for certain community areas.  Canada, Florida, New York, and Europe need not apply.

The infinity engine still has a very active community and most mods are very easy to find a simple google search will take you to spellhold studios and pretty much any of the megamods (big picture, ascencion, shadows over saubar etc) can be found there. The widescreen mod was done by gibberlings three which is also linked through spellhold.

The community is really tight nit and very welcoming. Unlike...No Mutants Allowed for example.

Think you can still get Kotor from Direct-to-Drive..if I am not mistaken..pretty sure I saw it advertised for cheap.

I got Kotor from Steam a month or two back. Annoyingly, it only supports max rez of 1024 x 768 and I can't work out how to run it windowed. Nice wide screen all blacked out, except for a little rectangle in the middle!

Any solutions gratefully received :)

I couldn't find any digital downloads when I was looking a week ago. I found some bundles for BG series and NWN1 on amazon. Not sure about now, though.

I had to purchase a DVD to get BG 1&2 and also Planescape:Torment. But I think, in all, off of eBay, I was able to purchase them new for <$30. The mods are pretty easy to find and I had some fun with them.

I will add that the widescreen mod is incredible and added a lot of visual intensity to the games.

I see that Bioware doesn't own the publish rights to the original game, I think it would be pretty epic if that could rewrite and release the games with better graphics.

There is a slight chance that Atari will have to give up their rights to publish because they are being Sued by Wizards of the West Coast and other companies for failure to fulfill the contract.

I doubt WotC truly cares anymore.  They're to busy trying to appease their masters, Hasbro.  That is a whole other section I could rant about.
