I wouldn't be surprised if legal issues are behind its absence.

Gog.com have signed a deal with Atari to release some games in April, but as far as I'm aware it's unknown which titles they are.

If you are looking for the Baldur's Gate stuff, Atari holds the D&D license and I have not seen old D&D games appear on digital download sites yet. I would be curious to what is released on GOG.com by Atari, but it hasn't been the D&D stuff yet.
However if you look into more of Bioware's back catalog you will find that Shattered Steel and MDK 2 are on GOG.com, and I bet you can find Jade Empire on a digital download somewhere...

I am willing to bet bioware could make a nice little chunk of change by re-releasing BG with a widescreen patch for digital download, assuming they aren't stopped by 'last minute legal issues' because we know how lawyers apparently camp in the bushes outside of their head office and wait for the last minute before attacking.

LOL....widescreen only works for certain community areas. Canada, Florida, New York, and Europe need not apply.Sloth Of Doom wrote...

Keep in mind also that games like BG are not widescreen friendly. There are user made patches to fix this but as time goes on they become harder and harder to find.

The infinity engine still has a very active community and most mods are very easy to find a simple google search will take you to spellhold studios and pretty much any of the megamods (big picture, ascencion, shadows over saubar etc) can be found there. The widescreen mod was done by gibberlings three which is also linked through spellhold.
The community is really tight nit and very welcoming. Unlike...No Mutants Allowed for example.

I will add that the widescreen mod is incredible and added a lot of visual intensity to the games.

There is a slight chance that Atari will have to give up their rights to publish because they are being Sued by Wizards of the West Coast and other companies for failure to fulfill the contract.

I see that Bioware doesn't own the publish rights to the original game, I think it would be pretty epic if that could rewrite and release the games with better graphics.

I doubt WotC truly cares anymore. They're to busy trying to appease their masters, Hasbro. That is a whole other section I could rant about.
