Ha. Ah yes, "consensus." We have dismissed that claim.
Although, I don't think it's overpriced either. The game was good enough that I don't mind throwing something extra back at the developers.

Too true. But I was only referring to Bioware. MW2 was good fun, but I played it until I was sick of it and don't see myself going back. Activison's attitude is way worse than EA these days.

Of course, if I end up getting the shaft on this one then I'll wait for reviews next time.

Hell yes! If it is as good as the rainbow-firing scarabs in Halo Wars I would most certainly pay for that. 'twas awesome.

I'm not a fan of DLCs, simply cause of Australian download limits, and the bioware points cards apparently hates my credit card, but... I'm gonna buy it =p... The appearance pack = no go for me tbh, but kasumi = yes...
And yes the MW2 Pack is a joke, honestly, MW2 is the reason why I hate activision now.

One quick question: Does your mind ring a bell at the word "planning"?
When you go to develop something you have a plan with the ideas you want to bring in your product, and without the DLCs, with the practical timeline, some ideas have to be cut out (that's the way games have been developed in the last decades).
With the option to post develop and release THAT additional content which was excluded from the retail plan of the game, you have to start preparing the ground for that conted to be included and work perfectly within the retail game, and there you go the reason for the "infamous placeholders", and if you want to include them in the main storyline as crewmates, you have to leave some "space" for them too (specifically talking about the Normandy) so you can easily fit them later on... would you have better liked to have them standing like statues?
Wether you like it or not, before DLCs were a real deal for game, you wouldn't even probably know about those "additional stuff" and without DLCs we wouldn't have right now Zaeed, Normandy Crash Site, the Firewalker Pack and Kasumi, since they were ALL developed AFTER the gold date for ME2, which is approximately around the 20th of December 2009 (data gathered from the ME2 disc for Xbox 360).
So tell me now, considering the facts stated above, WHY are you complaining? Since so far they gave us a lot for free (I didn't included the weapons in the DLC list) I am glad to pay to my favourite developer a small sum (not even 5€) for some additional content, becouse since Baldur's Gate they've earned my trust and so far they've never lost it.
Ofcourse if they'll do something that won't be worth the value, I won't buy it, but till now they're doing great
The "facts" above, huh?
They gave us alot of uselss **** for free. But that isn't the point. The only DLC worthhile is Zaeed who should be and was free because no matter what you say he was originally supposed to be in the game anyway. Some of the very first concept art was of Zaeed (developed after the game was completed my ass). Now if they actually make vehicle based DLC missions (actual missions) that were in fact NEVER supposed to be part of the original retail game then payment is to be expected. It's not about the money. It's the the principle of the matter. It's like rushing a game out with only 6 squad mates and then charging 15% of the retail cost for what is at best 3% (for speedy types) of the total game time for each additional member. We clearly have different standards. This whole conversation is irrelevant. I don't require that you agree with me.
Did you actually read and understood what I wrote? Or I was talking to a wall? While I don't agree with your point of view, but I can understand it, you on the other hand don't want to understand how it works on the development side, calling it just "bullpoop* or different standards.
If this game was Baldur's Gate II and having a timeline some of the wanted content, which existance was made to the public, didn't made it to the game becouse of a timeline and becouse the game had to respect a high standard and should not suffer for more content but rushed (quite the opposite of what you've said), you would complain blaming them becouse that content HAD to be in the game and the game was rushed?
Now I'm pretty sure that there were a few things in BG2 that didn't made it to the retail game, and the DLCs works exactly for that, post develop something that you as a developer wanted to include but that was discarded in the planning stage for the timeline of the retail game.
I don't know how to explain that concept further, this is my last attempt, if you don't want to understand it, well, it's your loss in time and anger about that

I don't know what's keeping them from making it available: it is up on both the Dutch and Canadian Marketplace, all they have to do is upload it to put it on the US one as well and give it a price (it's currently listed as free).

Willing to bet it will cause some slight congestion, nothing serious, but they want to make sure it all goes smooth. Since this is the first premium pay for DLC I can imagine they want this go like curry through butter.
