I don't think Tali's fanbase is at large as it seems; a handful of her fans are just really REALLY dedicated and active.

I guess I figured Jacob and Miranda would have the biggest fanbases. Only weirdos would go for the alien romances.

I was going to post this idea when I found a screen shot with Jack still alive, but after seeing this comment...

Well, yeah, that was quite interesting. After played through ME1 a couple of times, I was like. 'Tali? She's a walking codex entry, why would that be interesting?' The I got here to see all that sick (and some normal) obsession with 'dem hips' which I still can't help but associate with the lack of teenage sexual inercourse. Still, it was interesting to see that sexual attachment to a figure which is actually built up from pixels.

Haha, you just blew my mind. Tali's role in both games has essentially been a walking, talking Quarian history and culture encyclopedia. Every single conversation with her boils down to Quarian specifics, whether it be politics, health, viewpoints or whatever. She's not a character I can hate, but she's really not that interesting either. The one major upside I see with her is that her VA does a fantastic job and is easily one of the best in the game.

The obsession with "dem hips" is pretty ridiculous, her support thread has hundreds of posts per day from various creepy Talibans. The OP is especially creepy since it's loaded up with terrifying fan art and hilariously bad fanfics.

On another note, I expected Wrex to have the biggest fanbase and Kaidan the smallest. Personally, I'm a big fan of Garrus.

I love Garrus and Tali. And, no, I do not own any Tali related paraphernalia, obsess over 'dem hips' and stay far away from that monstrosity of that thread.

But Garrus is still the best character in Mass Effect bar Legion and Wrex.

Me too.  Fookin three-fingered-glass-face. The save I am gonna transfer to ME3 will have her killed in the vents so she will not be in my ME3

Anyways, back to OP, I think Wrex won some sort of award for being the best side-character or something. I imagine he has a lot of supporters too.

Wow man yikes, I don't like Tali much either but getting her killed is a little extreme. You never know when you'll need the Quarian Wikipedia at your side! :wizard:

And yeah, Official Xbox Magazine gave Wrex the Sidekick of the Year honours. They somehow passed over Mass Effect (10/10) for Rock Band (9.5/10) for Game of the Year honours even though ME was the best by far. I haven't bought an issue since.

there are actually 3 main reasons why Tali is very popular with the sausege fest community

1. The forums are home to millions of virgin white bois ages 15-25. Tali is the only girl in Mass effect that actually likes you. For many nerds, this fills the social hole in their lives, and the mention of a girl liking them (even an alien in a suit) is enough to set them into nerdgasms

2. Look at the choices. Miranda, Tali, Samara/Morinth, Jack. Miranda does not like you at all, and if nerds wanted sex, they could go watch porn. Samara refuses you, and Morinth kills you (plus no real secks). Jack is a psychopath emo ****, and this may turn on some goths, but alas goths do not make the majority of the population.

3. Tali in General is a well written and likeable character. Even if there were "better choices" I would still like Tali. I liked her since ME1, her voice, body, and personality is so charming

Always liked both of them, Ashley more, but I had a strange feeling that she wouldn't be as popular as other characters. Still, after Garrus, she's mu second favourite. Then comes Wrex and Miranda.

as for the others

zaeed is apparently the chuck norris of mass effect. Legion, Mordin, and Grunt are popular because theyre funny. Thane, Samara is too much serious business. Miranda is a failed attempt of Bioware trying to glue plastic hair onto a character and no one really likes her personality. Morinth and jack are emo, goth, bad girls.

No one likes jacob

people are angry at Kasumi costing $7

Garrus is... eh... I dunno

You really like to generalize about people, don't you? Slap the same opinions on everyone and call it a day?

Ashley stopped endearing herself to me following 'I can't tell the aliens from the animals'. True story.

it may be a generalization, but Ive spent enough time on the forums to gather a consensus of information.

Come on now, the Tali love should be expected. She's the typical "good girl" next door who wants to do right by everyone. She does nothing in game (even renegade wise) that says she'll do something "wrong". I agree that some of her fans are overzeoulous, but I'm not sure how any sane person could "hate" her without hating anyone remotely similar to her. The good girl next door is what Tali is.

Tali is HUGE because she's one of the very few characters in the game who, aside form the half dozen haters or so, anyone could see themselves being with a real life. Tali, friendly, sweet, loving etc. The other characters are the extremes of their respective pyschological differences while Tali is the middle ground.

you want proof?

it could take me hours, but I could link you to many many threads that express people's opinions. There are more threads of a certain view of characters than others. You can really tell what the majority of the forums thinks if you just browse and read.

unfortunately for you, I have to get back to playing this MMORPGFPS called Life

I hate her because of the stupid voice, dull dialogues and overall personality. In ME1 she had absolutely NO funny line or anything. In ME2 she is suddenly "oh Shepard you are so cool bla bla bla thanks for saving my a** bla bla". Plus she hates Legion, who is much cooler.

This is of course only my biased opinion.

Take all of your made up statistics and skew them all that you want, but generalization makes you sound stupid. While a lot of people may have an irrational hate-on for Jacob, a lot of people like him too. Therefore, "no one likes Jacob" doesn't apply.

when I mean "no one", I mean not many people

and when I mean "like", I mean they don't have massive threads going on about how they worship jacob

I myself like jacob because he is an average human with a family, and no cliche flaws, no superpowers (biotics dont count), and not extremely charming and impossibly awesome.

I really don't get the Tali love. It baffles me. I thought she was boring as hell in ME1, to the point where I felt like I didn't even understand why she was in the game. They made her somewhat tolerable in ME2 by at least making her the most outspokenly anti-Cerberus character on the team, but other than that, really, there's just... nothing about her. No interesting backstory, no discernible motivation, no distinctive personality, nothing. If I had to describe her, all I could think of is "she has this vaguely oriental accent and wears a salad bowl on her head."

I guess the fact that you can't see her face allows a lot of people to project god-knows-what on her, so if Bioware are smart they'll never show her unmasked. As for what I think people find attractive about her personality, I'd rather keep that to myself because I'll probably start a flamewar.

Well you're wrong :)
but seriously, that's my point.  She's not meant to be endearing by being funny or having awesome dialogue.  I think she does have personality in ME2 but that's just my perspective.  She's effectively the middle ground when it comes to characters.  I don't even have a problem for you not liking her based on what you mentioned.  I take issue with those who dislike her just because she's so popular and they're just trying to be noticed by being "different"

that is exactly what nerds love. A woman with ambigious looks (looks depend on what the community fantasizes, and they are subject to anything possible) saying that the player is so awesome.
