So how much of the game was spoiled for you?

Just wondering.

Know a topic like this probably already exists somewhere, but I'm curious to what extent the game was ruined for other people as a result of frequenting these forums.

For myself, I'd rate it as moderate to severe, to list the major ones I can think of:

Legion

Collector twist

Entire intro sequence

SHepard working for Cerberus, also that the Normandy gets destroyed (the other aspects of that scene however were not spoiled for me). Tali becoming a squadmate (also Mordin, Jack, Samara, Thane, two Cerberus operatives) and Garrus helping you out on a mission, clever that one...

Just Legion. I also had reason to suspect that Tali and Garrus were romanceable.

Nothing was spoiled by the forums as I stayed the hell away, from both old and new... However Marketing spoiled a crapload, inlcuding the entire end and beginning.

Whoever was in charge of content selection for marketing needs to be sodomized by a syphilitic bear.

Right. Garrus too. That pissed me off. Garrus was my bro. Would have preferred to be pleasantly suprised by that.

As a second part, anyone made a vow to avoid the forums at all costs for ME3 launch? I know I have. We'll see how well that goes...

I've only went to these forums AFTER I've beaten the game once. Probably the only thing I knew ahead of time is that there's a chance Shepard may not make it to ME3 depending on my choices.

So, so much...

It was the pre-release trailers and vids. They kept assuring me they weren't revealing as much as I thought they were, but... it was not so.

None whatsoever. I beat the game before joining any sort of forum :)

Ah, I didn't visit the forums period before ME2. I personally don't mind spoilage and kinda wish I was in the forums for the bulk of it. I was going around thinking Legion was a squad mate and became depressed when someone told me there is no proof, because there really wasn't and I just made it up in my head.

Though I kinda wish Jack wasn't revealed until that moment you go to get her out in the game. You can tell that they tried to make it out like Jack was a guy and it was meant to be a surprise, but frankly they did a poor job hiding it.

Now Garrus surprised me. I had an idea he was going to be in the game, but I didn't connect the dots between him, the mysterious shadow in the picture for the squad loyalty picture, and the recruitment achievement picture, till I spoke to that Krogan in the red blood gang. After that, I messaged a friend about it and he was pissed at me for the spoilage.

8D!

Is anyone else reminiscing about the old pre-release speculation and hype that blazed on the forums before ME2?

How many threads did we have discussing whether Legion would be a squadmate? Or if Garrus was coming back? How many lists of possible LIs did we post, pick over, and discard?

And talk of how they'd handle the ME1 love interets... God! We argued about that so often. "Just wait", we'd say. "Don't judge it until the game comes out..." Ah, looking back...

Didn't go here but from Gametrailers and the wiki I knew about Legion, Tali, Garrus, the ship, the whole was dead and now I'm not, pretty much everything. The only surprises I got were Kaidan giving me a serve because now I am a traitor and he's an idiot and the Collectors being Protheans. Really that's all.

Heh, I was personally fine with how they handled the ME1 LI's.

Kaidan and Ashley in particular were two of the most bland characters in the entire game I found. Seriously. I was more curious about Chorban and the results of his research in my first playthrough than I was in what either of them had to say.

To be fair, it's possible that ME2 might have done them better justice. After all, there's no question that Garrus and Tali were both greatly improved as characters.

The one thing that did disappoint me, which is the reason I'll avoid the forums pre ME3 was all the suggestions that the Collectors were indeed the Protheans. The idea made so much sense to me that I accepted the idea as dogma before I saw any coroborating (sp?) evidence, such that I wasn't even surprised when I read some jackass' post confirming it. Just disappointed that I had ruined a twist for myself.

Lol. Yep... I can still remember the explosion that occurred when we all found out our LIs were only getting cameos...

let me get this straight...you went into a section of a forum that clearly states in the heading "Spoilers Warning"!
How could you not see any negative consequences to that?

To clarify, wulf3n, I did not.
Prior to the official launch of ME2, some people managed to get their hands on a copy via illicit means, and amused themselves by posting spoilers under otherwise innocuous thread titles. I had ME2 on launch day, and prior to launch day no 'spoilers allowed' forums were active.

I steered so clear of ME2 news that I didn't even know Jack was a girl until I saw her rise up out of the cryo. Legion was a huge surprise. Garrus I figured out as soon as one of the merc leaders said he was a turian. I hope I can stay away from the forums once ME3 news starts spilling but I doubt it.

Moderately. Some of the plot-twists (such as the origin of the Collectors) were speculated on the old forums, and I had my own suspicions, so it wasn't such a powerful surprise. Neither was Legion, he was in the teaser, after all. Still, I was generally unaware of most things regarding the main plot, so the game kept me interested. Only let down was Garrus, really GT? At least some SPOILER tags on GameTrailers would have been appreciated!

Still, not nearly as spoiled as Mass Effect. After the game launched I avoided reviews and videos like the plagues, certain that it would find its way to the PC. And when it did, I watched the PC "Story" trailer and... wow, they pretty much spoiled the entire plot.

I completely avoided ANY mention of ME2 to the point of blocking Ads, and not reading forums/webcomics and so on. I still knew about Tali/Garrus/Legion and that Shepard was going to be working with Cerberus. I might spend a few months at a monastery next time, and see if it helps.

If things get bad enough, I may 'miss' a month or two of payments for my internet. :-P
