hi,

I am doing ME2 again on impossible and I am having trouble with the rescue Jack from Prison mission. Does anyone know which two make the best squadmates:

I have tried it with

Zaeed & Morlin
Garrus& Miranda

I don't have wrex/tali or the dral. Would it be easier if I got them first?

The hardest part is trying to destroy the mechs

this largely depends on what class you are playing as...the class you choose drastically changes the necessity of certain squad mates

I am a soldier for the moment. I tried with the adept and other powers and found it rather pointless as all my squadmates have powers too so why bother?

Depends where you keep dying... Lots of shield in that prison so having miranda/garrus would be my pick aswell most likely. I think i did the prison without deaths on my soldier. Just need to figure out where to hang back and snipe

Ok well as a soldier you primarily lack heavy one-hit defense stripping powers so you'll probably want to take Miranda and Mordin or Miranda and Garrus. Make a slow advance picking off far away targets with your sniper and Adrenaline rush (for the damage bonus). As enemies get a little closer you'll want to switch up to the assault rifle and start using your squaddies to strip defenses as fast as possible. Seeing as most enemies on this level have shields you'll want to get overload on Miranda/Garrus as high as you can. Order your squadmates to stay far back in cover because that way they will stay alive and you will still be able to use their powers. The trick with the heavy Mechs is to damage them as much as possible as soon as possible. As soon as the heavy mech powers up nail it with multiple overloads, but then shift your focus to the weaker enemies because the YMIR will take longer to advance. After the weaker enemies are dealt with or mostly dealt with, or the YMIR is getting too close you'll want to use Adrenaline rush to retreat back away from the mech. A key point to make too is that often it is better to find tall cover and run in and out of it rather than locking yourself into it and shoot the mech with adrenaline rush on. This will allow you to sprint to a new location if things start looking bad for you. You'll want to have your disruptor ammo as high as you can for this level (preferably squad disruptor ammo) because it will eat the mech shields and deal extra damage to the mech after defenses are gone. For taking out the shields you'll want to use the assault rifle or the shotgun if it gets to close. for the armor I recommend the sniper rifle or the hand cannon. Again be sure to keep your squad mates alive and to use their powers as much as possible.

Hopefully that helps some, otherwise there are lots of great threads and videos on how to play the soldier and other classes throughout this forum and even on Youtube.

I usually have either Garrus and Miranda, Grunt and Miranda, or Garrus and Grunt. I have done it also with Zaeed and Miranda.
The thing I may suggest is researching "Overide" with either Miranda or Garrus to max state if you can or near. Both might actually work wonders because they would drop everyones barriers super super quick. Also put Garrus on snipeing while Miranda show stay useing SMG's. If your going Grunt or Zaeed they need either Miranda at a high overide or Garrus. Overide works wonder here and helps you drop the big mechs quick. You wise (No matter class) try to keep your overide person alive and if its just your team and the mech or if the mechs close, make that #1 priority and also aim for the head. either use a pistol or sniper rifle to to drop it quick. if takeing Grunt have shotgun on.
Also one time I pulled a fast one on one of the big mechs where I was hideing in coverand my allies were down. I used a med kit and my allies ressurected right behind it. I switched Grunt to assault rifle and Miranda and Grunt wasted it like no tommarow. I think the big mechs are also very weak in the back too.

PS: if your getting Jack first thing don't worry to much, let Miranda use overide and Jacob pull on infantry then have him flank the big bots from the back with a shotgun.

Bring Grunt, if only for the comments.

Anyways, he's a pretty strong character, can stand punishment against the mercenaries, while you tactically take down the bigger mechs.

focus on team mates who can strip shields fast.

if you like adept then dominate can be a fitting & fun bonus skill to cause distraction whilst you pick off the dangerous foes.

Control the position of your squad if they die too quickly so you can use their powers when you want. - you have told the game settings that you control their powers yes?

I used Miranda and Zaeed and basically did what a08m08 describes a few posts up. I'm really using the same basic strategy with my soldier for everything - take out as many enemies as possible with the sniper rifle, then switch to assault rifle, get closer, use squadmates' powers to strip defenses and finish up. Hence why I'm taking Miranda everywhere on Insanity, Warp + Overload means you're prepared for any type of defense, and Zaeed's Concussive Shot is a great way to at least temporarily knock out enemies if they get too close for comfort.

Specifically for the spot with the second YMIR Mech in the Jack recruitment mission, if the mech gets too close, remember you have a long tunnel with a lot of cover behind you, so if all else fails, hit adrenaline rush and retreat.

Miranda and Mordin work quite well for me. Mordin with his incinerate and miranda with overload. Regardless of class I find these two to be extremely effective together. Plus they both have rapid fire smgs and are highly accurate with them.

I normally take Garrus and Miranda. Hopefully both, or at least one, has Area Overload.

Just use your Disruptor Ammo. For, me it's the first fight that's the hardest on that mission

I would suggest Miranda + Zaeed. Make sure to max squad disruptor ammo on Zaeed ASAP. At low levels you should focus on Adrenaline Rush and Combat Mastery. You don't have the points for ammo powers yet.

-Everything on that mission is vulnerable to Disruptor Ammo. Put it on all your weapons.

-If you've done the Archangel recruitment mission, then equip Zaeed with the Vindicator. Miranda should of course use the Shuriken (don't bother switching to the Heavy Pistol against armor).

-Get the proper kill order down: Fenris Mechs -> Turian Blue Suns -> Blue Suns Grunts (are usually human) -> Blue Suns Legionaires (are usually Baterians).

-In fights against YMIR Mechs, ignore all other enemies and take down the Mech Asap. DO NOT LET IT FLANK YOU.

-NEVER attack prisoners. The Blue Suns will kill them for you. Let the prisoners "tank" for you.

In the final fight, don't bother with the vast majority of the spawns. Just equip your sniper rifle, destroy the 3 shield generators and then kill the boss. You can attack the first generator right way. To get to the next 2, equip your sniper rifle, go left up the ramp and across the catwalk till you get to the barricades that flip-up. Get behind the furthest barricade on the left and you should be able to hit both remaining generators.

Just three things to remember for that level.

1. When fighting the first heavy mech, you can snipe it pretty easily off the bridge.

2. The second heavy mech doesn't activate until you pass the bridge or accidentally hit it. When it gets activated, you can fall back to where you originally started on that level. The mech's AI isn't too great and it will come at the other side of the wall. There is an opening where you can shoot it in relative safety.

When on the warden kuril part. Take out all the shield generators (just walk up the right catwalk a bit and use the sniper rifle to hit the generator behind the warden commander, the other 2 are easy to reach) as soon as possible then run to the left catwalk and snipe Kuril from behind one of those metal barriers that pop up rather than try to fight everyone. They just keep re-spawning anyway on insanity.

Someone may have better tactics as a soldier, but this always worked for me.

I did actually discover that when fighting the mechs but thx for the tip. I also used rockets alot as well, I found them to be highly efficient ant disabling enemies.

I will try that for warden kuril, thats actually the part i'm currently on. I didn't actually now they respawn after you kill them. I don't think they did before on the omega mission.

I'm also using the cerberaus armour and have the arc projector weapon which Is excellent and disasbling shields.

I've also disabled the firewalker pack. Is there anything i need to know about for insanity?

Yeah they do respawn, especially if you knock off a warden commander. You're just wasting ammuntion. Soldier works best on insanity by taking the heightened adrenaline rush as soon as possible and switching between your sniper and vindicator battle rifle. If you're planning on taking the reverent LMG, then respec and give yourself the hardened adrenaline rush before you do the disabled collector ship mission. As for the armor, I prefer the N7 gear just because I like the headshot damage visor, but do what you feel is best for your own gameplay.

If you have problems on other missions, feel free to PM me and I'll share whatever tips I know for the mission at hand. I don't mind answering questions.

Adept: Zaeed and Garrus (disruptor ammo and area overload)

Vanguard: Zaeed and Miranda (area overload and unstable warp)

Infiltrator or soldier: Garrus and Miranda (area overload)

Haven't done it with other classes.

I've found that Blue Suns typically go down easy with Garrus and Zaeed, especially if you've managed to unlock squad disruptor for Zaeed. Otherwise, Grunt is a great all-rounder as well. I gave up on Miranda on Insanity as she seems to die fast in the most idiotic ways :(

Personally as an Adept I like Miranda with unstable warp and Zaeed better. You should always have one person to ingnite a warp bomb when playing an adept on insanity. Espcially considering you'll probably be using most of your cooldowns to lock sigularity on people and shooting out their shields.

Miranda is most useful for her powers and squad bonus'. Just order her behind cover and she will stay there while you clear the level.

She does have a 'red mist' streak of aggression that puts even Grunt to shame, certainly   However, I still find I get good synergy with her in my Insanity shore-parties (dependant on Shepards class, and what I expect in any given mission, of course).

As for Purgatory...  Its not too bad at all, so long as you keep your wits about you.  Really the only potential sticking point is the fight against Kiril, where on Insanity in particular, it is imperative that you take out the shield generators ASAP (as others have noted).

Lol,great. And then some shotgunner spawn from a corner and finish her off.

Can't really see how that can happen when she is behind you. Then again Miranda rarely dies when she is in my party when she is in front for me as well.

Take miranda and Garrus for shield stripping as well as warp for killing armor. If this is a second playthrough, you probably have a power. If so, what is it? Also is it possible to have loyalties before you rectruit jack (I mean maybe if you really put jack off for a while). If so, infernor grenade from Zaeed is very good at stripping armor, especially the heavy one (the one that has more damage per shrapnel).

As a soldier I would recommend you keep your distance. Dont use squad locationing against mechas as they find their own cover pretty well, and will need it. Basically spam overload and warp for shields (as well as shooting a little bit :P) then use concussive shot and warp to kill armor. Theny you win! If I remember, there are two mechs? If so have your 2 people attack just one mech with powers while you attract attention of the other. Once the one your squad mates are working on has lost shields, finish it off while you command your team to start stripping the other's defenses. Good luck!

Oh and soldier isnt so good for insanity... try sentinel or, contrary to popular belief, a super agressive vanguard build. Im doing vanguard on insanity and I charge CONSTANTLY and no one has time to shoot at me :P

Its not too late to see the light my friend XD

Cheers!
