(Seriously, though ... the terrain of archangel mission really confuses the AI .. I end up being quite heavyhanded with issuing orders)

Still I prefer Jacob for that mission since a low level Grunt really can't tank very well, and Pull >>>> Charge.

Medigel doesn't help you, shep doesn't need it to regenerate and if you fall in battle nobody is going to revive you.

example:
He says I AM KROGAN
but when he kills someone he sometimes says worthless..
So in this case he would say I AM !!! worthless...lol.its hilarious when the kill dialoge overides the ability dialogue

Its a lot better than it was in ME1. Honestly if they made the squad AI much better it would make the game too easy.
You should also keep in mind that Grunt has a different more aggressive AI than the rest of your squad and as a result he tends to get himself killed more often if you don't order him to cover.

What have you even used medi-gel before of course it helps you it restores your shields & health back to full & the cooldowns really short.
With medi-gel you can be on the verge of death but effectively avoid it 8 times ina row if you have the max amount.
Really how can you not think this is helpful

Its probably because the trauma module and shield harmonics arent available yet in that early part of the game

Yeah that could be it i normally have 3 after getting Mordin (one from his mission, one of the doc on the ship & the last one i buy from the citadel) so i have them from that point on which being only 3 missions in is very early

oh, sorry i forgot that was possible because i try to delay my trip to the citadel so i can get most of the unique dialogue
Ne worries mate TBH i dont think many people do get them that early, I only do because i totally gave up on the squaddies so perfer to just do my own thing & not babysit them.
I think the hardest part about using medi-gel is that its a limited resource so you can feel like your wasting it but its not really a rare find.
Think on the archangel mission after you start fighting theirs 6 medi-gels kicking about for you to pick up that i know about so its pretty hard to run out anywayB)

Each team mate has different ai. Some are aggressive (Grunt, Jack and Jacob aka "Mr. Runs Underneaht Preatorians When They Drop And Do Their AoE Attack) and some are deffensive (Garrus and Zaeed) while some are fast and move from cover to cover (Mordin). On Garrus's mission I suggest taking Zaeed and Mordin. Leave Zaeed with Garrus because Mordin likes to flank enemies rather than charge them. Also... if you are playing on insanity then I suggest using the cain or Garm (easiest Krogan fight ever).
Even on Insanity Garm is a cake walk, so no need to use a heavy weapon at all. There is an easy tactic if you have trouble taking him in the room. I used this with an adept since I was having trouble with this par of the fight.
Go into the room with Garrus to activate the encounter with Garm then go just outside the door and take cover. Garm will sit just in side the room shooting at Shep with no desire or need to flank. Inbetween his blasts use what ever powers to wear down his defenses.
The one area i have conssitent problems with is the corner in the narrow hallway. The Pyro can't be taregeted without exposing Shep to the flam thrower. Mordin's AoE isa life saver here.
