Hi!
I have the following problem:
My current driver is Catalyst 11.6.
Adaptive AA doesn't work at all with that driver.
So I installed 9.10. Now AA doesn't work at all.
Also no AF. Same with other drivers before
10.10 (which are the first AMD Catalyst).

What can I do? How to remove 11.6 completely?

First off what video card are you using to play ME2 with ? That'll help out just know that :P.

Try this which should work unless your OS is messed up in a serious way...lol. Run the 11.6 Drivers, when you get to the point where it asks you to install or uninstall click the uninstall, once that is done restart the PC and run the 11.6 drivers again and this time click the install tab, where it asks for Express or Custom click the Express since you just uninstalled everything from before. Once that's done installing restart the pc again, after that you should be all set to play ME2 with no problems. As it is I am using the 11.6 drivers with no issues on my HD4890OC (replacing with 2 6970s sometime later lol).

If you run into complications post em here  as were here to help those that ask B)

Do you use Adaptive AA? If so, performance or quality?
Do all edges get smoothened?

My graphics card is a 4870

The Armor and Clothing textures in either ME1 or ME2 will have jagged edges unless you use texmod to change them, how ever texmod is notorious for killing FPS even if you don't have a mod running, so I don't use it anymore for that reason.

I use Quality AAA, are you sure you have *Enable Adaptive Anti-Aliasing* checked ? cause if that's not you won't even see ingame differences. You may also want to check your MipMap detail level that will actually degrade visials more then AAA does.

Here are my current settings in the CCC.

i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/Orilion/CCCsettings-1.jpg

Here's my modified Gamersettings.ini that I use, still tweaking it for best performance vs quality atm *mainly shadows there always a pain*.

Max multisamples along with AA being forced in CCC actually helps with the jagged edges, just be sure not to use anything other then the Box filter, otherwise your get a huge FPS hit, I'll update this ini tweak as I figure things out as I play through ME2 again. Also your need catalyst AI enabled for the forced AA to work ingame.

AAA doesn't work in any game anymore. For example: Dragon Age.
I installed a different graphics card and driver. Since then it no longer worked.
The graphics card was a 5870. It has only one AAA mode and Supersampling AA.
Now I use the 4870 again. Maybe that's why the driver no longer recognizes any
options checked/unchecked in AAA.

With the 5870, AAA didn't work as well, SSAA however worked...

In the past were you editing the GamerSettings.ini like the one I posted, cause with out that or renaming the ME2 exe you can't force AA in UE3 :(. Also  why did you go from a 5870 to the 4870 lol and did you uninstall the drivers you were using with the 5870 before you installed the 4870 ?

I didn't edit that. Before I installed the 5870, my 4870 worked with AA 4x (no renaming ME2.EXE),
also AAA performance smoothened all edges.

Then I went to 5870, I returned it (because it smelled ugly), no AAA worked anymore.
Then I installed the 4870 again, also no AAA.

I did uninstall all drivers and used DriverCleaner.NET.

Ok try my ini tweak above and set the AA in the CCC to 4x AA with the box filter and be sure that the AA option in CCC is not set to application controlled. That should get you AA in ME2.

Here's an example of enabled AA on my setup.

With AA Enabled.

Without AA Enabled.

nope, doesn't work.
I get AA, but not AAA. Many parts of the game stay pixelated.
It wasn't like that before (before I used the 5870 for the first time).
Characters for example look gorgeous, with smooth edges,
but most landscapes have pixelated textures.

How old is the HD4870 ? Have you ever OCed it, cause some OCs actually damage parts of the card and your get issues cropping up because of it, I've even seen where and OCed card couldn't display the color gold+shaders corretly so it left that texture/shader a flat black.

But anywho lol... if all else fails I'd replace that aging HD4870 asap with a newer HD6k as AMD is not making any more 5870s to put out on the market that I know of, highest I see from the 5ks still out for sale are the 5850s from HIS. If you can afford it I'd check out anything at or above the HD6870s, aside from a total system restore/format I can't think of anything off the top of my head that could be causing you to get these GFX issues. :?

hmm...I'm thinking of buying a 5850 Asus OC.
But I don't really want to make a Windows reinstall....

Maybe my old Geforce 280 (which was overclocked when
I bought it) had that problem. It couldn't use Supersampling AA
at all and all textures looked strange. That's why I bought
the 4870.

It's a Rainmeter theme (very easy to use fyi), here's where I got it from
darkstaruav.deviantart.com/#/d2vikzm he also has the wallpaper pack for it, and depending on your screen res you may want to resize some of the wallparers in paint lol. atm I'm using a wallpaper I just made durring a playthrough in ME2 lols. i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/Orilion/MassEffect22011-07-0323-51-18-30.jpg Now that I have my ini's setup to let me toggle flycam and pause the entire game along with removing the hug I can take some nice/true HD wallpapers lol.

If you can get the HD5850 I'd go for it as there pretty low in price and are still good cards even with the HD6Ks out now.

**Caugh** late reply lol anywho! ya to get that screenshot I had to edit the Coalesced.ini, so I could toggle the hud and pause the game at the same time and use flycam to get the angles :D very usefull for screenshots lol. Here shortly I'm upgrading my system to start getting ready for the new Bulldozer CPUs from AMD maybe then I can run texmod and still get 60+ FPS c_C.....I doubt it though LOL.

Hey guys I've been playing around with the settings and they seem to work alright, but I'm concerned about AntiAliasing. I'm using JeanLuc's HiRes textures through TexMod and I run the game through Steam. I've had to rename TexMod to MassEffect2.exe and rename the original ME2 exe to masseffect2texmod.exe and that setup works. But I'm running a Nvidia card and I'm trying to force AA through the control panel to masseffect2texmod.exe, since thats the file that actually runs the game. (I wasn't sure so I even added a profile for masseffect2.exe) but going by the menu in game (the starting menu with the cerberus screen on the right) there is no AA being applied at all.

Is TexMod going to stop me from being able to force AA or what am I doing wrong?

(I'm on 275.33 drivers)

Have you put MaxMultisamples= (set this from 1-2 to 4 any higher an FPS drops like a rock) in the gammersettings.ini under the systemsettings ? You many need that to actually enable AA ingame and what GFX card are you using with ME2 btw ? (the newer the better) :P

Come to think of it,I already get 16x anisotropic on my hd6670.
Maybe it's the new patch.

Which patch is that? I don't get notices of patches on my ME2 Launcher.

What resolution are you playing at ? Anything higher then say 1440-900 + 2-4x AA should be all you need ?
