Here are some general suggestions on improving the romances, male or female.
1) Your romance interest asks how you are feeling or your views on the current situation. The options Shepard/PC has to say goes beyond "I'm fine," or "It's fine."
2) Your romance interest talks with you about being together.
3) Your romance interests asks about your thoughts in general.
4) (Possibly depending on the romance) Some light playful teasing or joking.
5) Fits of passion.
6) Hugging, holding hands, cuddling, resting, walking together, things like that.
7) Other characters acknowledge that you are in a romance with your love interest.
8) Subtlety and gender specific dialogue leading up to the romance.
9) The romance conclusion gives the impression that you stayed together. Some people like ambiguity, some people like definite endings, but some indication that it's going to last.![]()
I agree with most of that. True story: ME1 & 2 were my Valentine's Day gift this year from my husband. Forget the flowers....but yah, massages are good.

Never said it invalidated ANYONE's opinion.
Expecting to get it fixed in a satisfactory fashion is a completely different beast. I'm already essentially content with what I have, cause FS playthrough, I shot Jacob down full stop; never even came up. Will a RP make that better? Of course. Because my expectations are grounded with experience.
So you skipped some content (the romance with Jacob) and therefore, you were satisfied with the way the game played? I understand not having unreasonably high expectations, but that seems like an awfully low standard there, to expect that entire subplots are going to be terrible and better left untouched. Then again, I really have no idea what your point was, so I doubt I'm responding to it very well.
Sometimes, I don't really expect to solve a problem, I just want to express my frustration and connect with other people who feel the same way (or in some cases, the opposite way, just because I want to hear the reasons). Whether anything changes or not far as the design of the next game, at least I'm able to express my thoughts and concerns somewhere. That's why forums like this exist--its not really meant as a place for us to do the developer's jobs for them (even if sometimes we try). So if that means my concerns are too vague to enable a developer to make any change, then oh well, doesn't bother me that much. There are other games to play.

The problem therein is Jacob requires both an overhaul and a retcon... don't think that's happening.
My comment is about the rest, also excluding Miranda. whom I did not romance thusly.

that is SO sweet! my husband gave me uninterrupted time with the game the night I first bought it - awwww....geek love.
Okay, so as long as I'm setting into a sexist minefield, potentially, what do y'all think of this idea:
Sexual Orientation as part of the character build?
Already there is dialog that reads differently for malePC and femPC. Example: Ashley's "Ashely Williams of the 2-12, are you the one in charge here, ma'am?" comes off as friendly and dang-i'm-glad-to-see-a-human. "Ashely Williams of the 2-12, are you the one in charge here, sir?" has a slightly more wow-you're-hot tone to it - i think, anyhow. Same goes for other characters at different times.
Now, I argue that the game BY DEFAULT is set up for a Male PC, his Female LI, and his male buddies. That's the storytelling standard, and that's fine. but when the story has a female PC or a gay male PC or whatever, some of the character cues come off strange, because they are cluing us that the men are buddies/subordinates/sidekicks and the females are potential LIs.
So, I think it would go a long way to pleasing gamers who are not heterosexual men (we're the minority, I know, but we're gaining numbers) if you could toggle your PCs sexual orientation from the beginning - interested in men, interested in women, and bi.
This would mean that cutscenes like Ashely's would not cue off of "sir" or "ma'am" - they would probably want to use gender neutral language "You the one in charge here?" instead, but if you're playing interested in women, her cutscene would have the "interested" edge to the voice. if you're playing interested in men, then it would play as merely friendly. another example: when jenkins dies, kaiden's reaction to the fem PC "Aye, aye, ma'am." came off as slightly admiring - following her lead, whatever. if you were merely friends, it would be less fawning and more blunt. "right."
on the other hand, If you set yourself as male interested, the females would react to you in a purely friendly manner - much like best friends in a female buddy movie, and the men would have options that show their interest.
again, there is already a difference in dialog, but it's cuing off of sex, not off of actual orientation, and it means that femPC gets treated exactly like a man in a buddy movie - right up until the moment when you have to either dive into trampy dialog to initate a romance OR you get ninjaed into a romance just for talking to someone.
alright, that's my brainstorm. not sure if that would appeal to fans or not or if that would ever fly. i'm dang sure of one thing: it would probably earn bioware another spotlight crucifixion on FOX news.

I wouldn't object to something like that, but given BW's latest statements about the topic in that interview with Maria Caliban, they may shy away from offering more customization.
On the other hand, I I just played through the Kasumi DLC , and I did get a sense that BW *tried* to reflect that my shep was female. I'll avoid spoilers since it is so new, but I felt the DLC was a step in the right direction anyway.

Jacob's romance scene: definitely NOT written for the male gamers. I watched it once with my female adept, and I went like 'AAAAAHH, MY EYES!!!'.
I'm not sure if they wrote it for female gamers either. Anyone listening to that dialogue will cringe, I don't care if you're male or female, which is dissapointing. I thought Jacob had potential. That and I can't help but wonder if that romance was just voice clips of the VAs joking around, and the devs said, "Hey, let's put that in the game!". <- Joke.
Anyway, I think one of the biggest issues (*Raises flame-proof shield*) is the fact that in femshep's romances, there really isn't that very traditional dynamic male/female relationship that people are used to seeing... well, pretty much everywhere. Hm.. How can I say this without it sounding raunchy? In all of femshep's romances, you get the feeling she is completely dominant. Her love interests are the ones who have all the problems, and she helps them through all of them. None of the males come onto her, she makes the first move (With the exception of the romances in ME1, where both Kaiden and Liara flirted or hinted at the fact they were attracted to her... both of which are popular love interests.). I think if they had a love interest without all the baggage... and Garrus delivered a little on that... and that would challenge femshep for that feel of dominance, we would have a very successful love interest.
/end rant and Having said that...

I know... Ignore the picture if you don't like it. But, I totally would romance him.

No matter what though, it's obvious Fox News beat Bioware. The fact that the most you see in any romance is dry humping and rough foreplay.

It felt like in order to start the romance conversation you had to force yourself on them and their reply was normally something like "oh i hadn't really thought of you before". Kind of kills the mood really. Whereas if you play as the male the girls are all over you trying to start romances.
Definately designed by men for men...

As of now only Kelly fills the gap, and she only does so slightly. I for one cross my fingers for a proper Liara romance continuity in ME3, and for my MaleShep I hope to get my Ashley back, because as of now I had to go with Tali since Ashley's reaction on Horizon turned me completely off and her little "excuse me" e-mail even more so, so I'll give BioWare time and I'll see what happens with both Liara and Ashley in ME3 in terms of romance. Ultimately I agree, the choices for romance in ME2 for a girl are rather weak at best (even Kelly is, but in comparison to others she's where the interests are for me).
Also, that damn bar in Kasumi's room is basically useless, we should be able to invite any one from our team to take a drink there together and actually sit down at the bar, not just serve ourselves a drink, drink it and then going back to business, that's just... insulting.

Kelly is the only way to go for FemSheps at the moment, I'm afraid, I for one am not interested at all by Jacob, he's boring, Thane looks weird and he's dying and way too spiritual for my tastes, and Garrus while being the coolest guy of the bunch thanks to his presence in ME1 and having the kicks for nostalgia he's still a Turian, and coupling with a Turian is not only weird but physically (well, virtually, but you get the point) incompatible as well, BioWare allowed a romance with both Garrus and Tali thanks to the community, but the community isn't always right in my opinion, Tali is still strange but at least she seems more fitting than Garrus, but all of this is my opinion of course.

Why is it guys always try to come up with long excuses as to why they don't like the M/F options for FemShep and yet have no problem with F/F? Just come out and say you're interested in the lesbiansexxorz and that's it. You boys aren't fooling anyone.
Oh, and Kelly's too easy. Not interested in getting scale itch today, thanks.

Actually, It was probably the character. SKy was Bi! Thats all I'm going to say on this I think silk fox was as well. Dawn star could get annoying to in the end it didn't really matter.
The best romances for Femsheps was thane and Kaiden. Long story short. Less baggage!

Jacob romance is the worst of the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
Watch the youtube video for the lolz if you want, but that's all I'd recommend.
No it isn't. Jacob's romance is well-written and well-paced. The actual paramour scene is extremely campy, but that's a minor scratch on one of the game's more well-written subplots. The worst of the female player's romance subplots is Thane. There are two scenes of sappy, artificial dialogue culminating in a vomit-inducing festival of Final Fantasy-esque melodrama. I am fond of Thane as a character, but the writing staff dropped the ball on his romance subplot.
The worst of them all, though, is Jack. Again, I adore her as a character, but the transition from "I'm a dangerous, angry head-case" to "oh god, I'm so vulnerable, Shepard, hold me and protect me with your mighty penis" is shockingly abrupt. I don't understand why it's so slapped together. BioWare's writing staff usually excels at pacing.

That's sweet of you, and I'm sorry in advance to Thane's fans(of which I am one) if I was too scathing in my remarks. To be fair, though, my Shepard romanced Liara in the first game, then played through without romancing anybody so I could have adorable turian forehead kisses in the second.
