I would say you could make the argument that it is sexist.  Since when does being sexist mean that it can only be directed at females?

I never said that sexism has to be directed towards females. But do you even believe for a second that Bioware is sexist towards males? REALLY? I think you instead you should be using terms about sexual orientation, not biological sex, even though I would disagree that Bioware is being homphobic.

Inter-species relationships with aliens has NOTHING to do with bestiality. Bestiality and pedophilia is wrong because someone or something of quite lesser mental capacity and understanding is being taken advantage of. There is nothing of that sort with Thane or Garrus, at all. They're both smart people. We do have a bisexual romance, janey, despite PR. No gay romances though, yes.

Agreed.
(although the Kelly 'romance' is not really a proper LI experience, IMO. And there is no male bisexual option, which is just sexist. And Bioware mantain character continutity, even though the fact that maleshep is straight and femshep is bi is just wrong! lol )

That is a reflection of society as a whole IMO.

Totally. And this is sort of my issue. But whatever. lol. It doesn't really bother me enough to get worked up about (despite appearences). It's what happens, so you kind of expect it.
Ah, social sexual political norms. You are quite the can of worms, aren't you?

I don't get worked up over it either.:wizard:

No, I believe it is an extension of society.  Your previous post sounded as if you believe that sexism only exists in one direction.

Of course I don't. I just find it funny of the idea that Bioware is sexist against males. I'd disagree with homophobic too, but that may be the term you're looking for.

If you're saying that society tends to tolerate lesbians more than gays, I would agree and do think it's ridiculous.

Some exceptions, I said some exceptions!

I found Jacob boring, and could not for the life of me interest myself in his story.

Thane, is excused, I found his backstory to be poss. the most compelling so far.

Garrus, I wish there were more content. Based on what we know about him already going into ME2, we don't learn much except he needs help being Batman (not meant as an insult, I love Garrus <3)

Jack has an interesting story, I suppose, but she's one of those that everyone knows someone like her. So, meh (please don;t hit me, these are just opinions!!)

Tali . . . . I'll stay mum so as not to offend. I'm just disappointed with what they have done to her.

Miranda is awesome.

Ok, Collider, running them through in my head, I may have spoke too soon. THe ME2 romances are def. very emotionally appealing. Personally, however, I find myself much more attached to the ME1 romances. And Thane

And in DA, I know you can spam your followers with gifts, but I never did unless they were one of the significant ones, such as Al's amulet, Flemeth's Grimoire, etc.

You know we are way off topic here.:D  I think we have derailed this poor girls thread somewhat, which was not my intention.:o

i may get some flaming for saying this, but look to NWN2 or twilight or just about any romance novel, movie, etc. written for women and you'll see what is popular:

2 hot guys that LIKE YOU.

why is tali so popular? she loves shep and always has. THAT is attractive: interested is interesting.

the unbelievable luke-warm response that you get from the guys in ME2 just makes me say guh.... "i don't have some fetish for humans or anything" wow. thanks. again, this is fantasy - and the fantasy is that someone will like you - better yet, more than one person will like you and you get to pick the best of the lot. not throw yourself att them like the PRIIIIIZE.

it's not that the guys aren't cool squadmates, all the characters are well written. just they come off as very boring romance wise if they just don't seem interested in shep without her throwing herself at them like tramps.

okay, go ahead and hate me if you like, but that's my criticism of the writing there.

He's just not that into you....   "laughs" the theme of ME2 romance!

But yes, I agree with you about the romances. Why are aliens dating each other again? I guess it's one thing when the aliens are of the Star-Trek variety--humans with extra bits--but it seems like most species would view such relationships as akin to bestiality (ignoring questions about physiology). This alone would have kept me away from inter-species romance, but throw in the fact that, female or not, I'd rather play a gay character, and my options wound up being VERY limited. I wound up romancing Kelly, which wasn't too bad, but it reeked of sexual harassment, objectification, and simple shallowness. I can call my secretary up to my quarters and have her give me a lapdance? Really, Bioware? In 2010?

Actually, I'd argue against this, just because of the sheer number of asari/_____ relationships you see in the background of the game. Sure, it's most likely Bioware being lazy and not making female models for any species aside from human and quarian (the latter which is extremely rare) and they're being great big DERPs about gay relationships (since there are only male turian and salarian models and, being aliens, you expect them to have very different sexual mores, it would make sense to see a turian/turian or salarian/salarian NPC couple in the background...but nope, apparently everyone in the far-flung future has the sexual behavior of 20th century conservative America--thanks for that, Bioware, really), but if they come out and say that all interspecies relationships are looked down upon, it just won't make sense.

I'd buy some couples facing prejudice--turian/humans, thanks to their recent war, but I can't see widespead anti-interspecies attitudes. Shepard might, period, since people like to use him/her for political ploys (the Terra Firma group, the Alliance using dead Shep for recruiting, etc).

Yes, Thane is utterly creepy. I'm not going there, much as I like the guy. Garrus is my buddy, maybe even my best friend right now. That has an... incestuous feel to it. Nope. Uh-uh.

Aw:crying::crying::crying:  I love Thane D:

I did too, as a companion.  I felt great empathy for him.  But not as a bedmate!

I really loved the Kaidan romance. It was incredibly well-crafted, regardless of whether Kaidan as a character was appealing to individual players or not. He was sure as hell appealing to me.

I won't be pursuing any of the romances in ME 2 replays, because they aren't worth pursuing. Give me one solid, well-crafted romance, not 6 rushed, tacky, mediocre ones.

That said, the clips of the Garrus romance finale were indeed sweet, rather than creepy or just plain jerk-mode. Priiiize, indeed. Meh.

Lol, I pretty much agree with the rest of your post.  I think parts of the romances for ME2 were well-written, but lack of content made it seem too easy to get people into bed.  Ok, that sounded creepy, but if you have ever played Dragon Age, I swear, romancing Leliana or Silk Fox from JE was the hardest to do!  You had to play your cards right, and pay attention to lots of things.

ME2 lacked great backstories and character depth . . .  I'll excuse a few from this, but anyway.

ME1 romances win hands-down, imo.

I did play Dragon Age, and did romance Leliana once... along with Zevran and that backstabbing racist Alistair (not in the same playthrough, mind you!)  I liked the way they developed slowly, garnering first mutual trust and respect, then genuine attraction which eventually blossomed into something more.  That's how the romance between FemShep and Kaidan built slowly over time, two people who grew to trust, respect, and eventually love each other.

And FemShep did not, after knowing Kaidan for two days, chat him up like a strip-pole sex kitten hoping for a fat tip in her g-string! Image IPB

Femshep behaving towards Jacob is a little trampish IMO, but I don't see the rest of your argument.  I sense jealousy in your post.

buahhahahaha!

really? you...

hahahaha!

that's funny.

yes. i am jealous of bella who has an icecube and a puppy in love with her.

or...not.

i really can't defend myself against a charge of jealousy without talking about my personal life, which is not something i'm going to do.

not sure if you're a guy or a girl, if you read romance ever, whatever.  the point is this: interested in interesting. people want to be wanted, women and men. that's what makes for good romance plots - the characters actually connect and want each other. me2 really didn't read that way for femshep.

there, i actually bothered to restate my point. but...you'll probably just ignore it and throw another ad hominem attack at me....geh...why do i bother? (because the movie is boring...)
