Level, class, specializations. Why not brag a bit about your build and how you got it to be that way?
I initially intended for my mage to be a healer, specializing in the school of creation. I only had one unlocked prestiege though, The arcane warrior. In the end, I ended up with a primary healer, that dabbled a bit in using heavy arms and armor. I added spirit healer later on.
I really need to be a bit more carefull with my glyphs, although casting a grease in a crowded tavern just for kicks was always fun.
I am trying to figure out a good build if you really wanted to go for the arcane warrior.
Anyway, how about you guys?
Talk about your build!

I was very happy with my warrior build, berserker / champion. Sword/Shield warrior.
He was supposedly, a very very good tanker and a very good damage dealer.
I think it was something like, 50 Str, 40 Dex and 25 Con.

I have a few characters, 2 of them are mages who have completed both Dragon Age games, and the third character I need to delete since I tried the exp glitch, my recent character is a warrior currently in Lothering at about level 7.
My first mage was a human I named him SUB-ZERO. I intended to have him focus on cold magic. As this was my first character and since at the time I was fairly new to RPGs only having played Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 on PS2 a few times I was fairly unexperienced with what to specialize in so he didn't specialize in anything, not shapeshifting, not bloodmage, not healer, not arcane warrior. Suffice to say, I was more pleased with the results of my second mage (described next). SUB-ZERO's spells included all of the Ice ones and fire from the primal tree. I had lightning and shock. Also had death magic like walking bomb, death syphon, and the other two. Then the four from the draining tree: drain life, death magic, death cloud etc.
The second mage was a dark skinned with white hair (intended to be a dark elf) elf named ÊÆRL STÕRM. He was much more powerful as I had much more experience with RPGs this time around. He has the four fire spells and ice spells. Also has lightning, shock and tempest. Stone fist and rock armor. He had heal. Also all four summoning spells: spell wisp, grease, spellbloom and stinging swarm. He uses all four hex spells. As for specializations he became an arcane warrior early in Awakening and in addition to that uses all 4 of branch 1 of the arcane tree. He is also a blood mage who uses the first three spells of the specialization but blood wound almost exclusively in terms of the blood mage spells. He was named ÊÆRL STÕRM because I had a vision of a character who would unleash powerful long lasting storms of many different elements that would take out large groups of enemies effortlessly. I'm very pleased with him. Hes just awesome.
My third Warden ws just a dalish elf warrior, mainly because I wanted to see the origin story and thats about it.
My fourth Warden is a human warrior named KRAD WOLF (just "dark" spelled backwards then wolf) currently in Lothering around level 7, so far I'm not quite sure how to build him and I made a thread about it to get some opinions. My plans for him are to make him a beastly berserker as well as reaver or a champion.

For my first character, I had a templar/champion with a focus on the sword and shield talents. I built her as my party's main tank. Not much of a damage dealer (I only had enough strength to wear some decent tier 7 massive armour), but she had this uncanny knack for surviving basically everything that was thrown at her.
Second character was a blood mage, mainly. I made her a shapeshifter as well (hey, two free constitution points right?) but never really used the talents from that specialization. I didn't really put much thought into her talent points until later in the game when I realized that she was doing a decent job at crowd control, so I made her capitalize on that.
My current character is an assassin/duelist using the dual weapon talents. I had a bit of trouble with her at the start, since I really had no idea how to build a decent rogue, but she's now at level 15 (or was it 16? I can't remember) and has all the assassin talents under her belt, which makes her fairly competent on normal difficulty. I also put a few points into stealth, and learned to use that talent effectively.

There is an entire forum here dedicated to this topic. (This thread may be relocated there, but regardless, you will find plenty of build discussion there.
)
My current rogue (that bloke ye see as my forum avatar to the left) is defying expectations and common sense by wearing heavy armor (though his target set is medium), and focusing on strength (once a certain modicum of dexterity is reached). The two weapon school "dual wield" line is his dump line; everything else (in Origins at least) is going to the core rogue school and specializations (assassin/duelist planned).
He's not optimal or maximized but he's fun enough.
Two guesses what spec he'll snag in Awakening; the first one doesn't count.

currently having fun with a dwarven warrior-priest.. yeah yeah, modified
dwarf arcane warrior/spirit healer, focusing mainly on buffs and heals while wading into battle with the biggest mace and shield he can hide behind, er, carry.. might use the learn all mod so i can give him shield bash..
hmm spell-wise.. full arcane warrior spell set, ice or flaming weapon (depends on opponent), rock armour, spellmight enhanced undead minion (with perma-summon) and some mindblasty goodness.. then some healing spells to keep me and my deader alive once we get swamped by darkspawn.. and for cc.. the walking bomb spells.. splat much

Just started my first ever mage, just got to Redcliffe and my attribs are:
30 magic
24 willpower
13 constitution
Using glyphs and such for crowd control, and I have heal as well just in case.
I will be getting the blood mage specialisation as well.

I'm playing what I hope is my last. I've played at least 3. The first was duelist/assassin, full rogue talents and all dual wield. The second bard/ranger, with all archery, the 3rd was same as the first. But this time I decided singly talented wasn't enough. So Kasha is maxed out on her Rogue tree except for feign death and stealth. Duelist/assassin, and bare minimum in the dual wield (top row maxed, riposte in second, and up to momentum on the 3rd) and the rest archery.
I didn't take any assassin talents yet, and I'll pick up stealth as I find skill books. So I can stabbity stab on the battle field, and vanish into steal behind a tree and shoot...lol

I'm playing a semi-solo run with my dual wielding reaver/templar and I'm very impressed so far. I was soooooo tired of curse of mortality, hex of misdirection, horror, prison, cone of cold etc ... It's a great build for having revenge on mages! 100% spell resistance, 40% - knight commander's armor 30% - spell ward amulet 10%- dwarf racial 16% - 2x master dweomer runes, 4% key to the city. 30% chance to dodge melee attacks via spellward and cailan's boots. I've put a lot into str, wondering now if a dex build would have been better in a solo build. ... strangely enough overwhelm is worse than ogre or dragon grab ;D imho
I want to finish a solo game with a 2h build, will have to try again sometime.
Boy is all up in my portrait there, he looks good eh? An Aeducan with commoner tatoos lol, things get funky topside!

Shifter/Healer. I took all the cone spells and Fireball ASAP so he was wiping out enemy groups all by himself from the onset. I had Heal, Group Heal, Arcane/Rock Armor, Life Ward, Spell Shield, Dispel Magic, Mind Blast and Force Field, so I was prepared every eventuality and could keep my group alive single-handedly (I had several other spells, but I only got them near the end) while at the same time DPS-ing with impunity. Shifter/Healer talents and bonuses made my mage a very tough frontliner caster from the start without having to resort to heavy armor - a definite plus since some of the most powerful defensive gear in Dragon Age are mage armors (you can reach a 50% spell resist and 40% dodge setup with mage gear, for example, the spellcasting bonuses are just extras). Naturally, he is a pure magic build - the caster Shifter alone does not particularly benefit from any other stat except magic (spellpower), regardless of items. The utility granted by the Shifter was also very useful since this was a focused mage - I could more or less wipe out an army all by myself (Howe's Estate) and yet in practice things very rarely go nuke/CC-and-everything-dies unless it's an easy fight. In practice there's always several scattered groups of archers somewhere spamming Scattershot, there's always a handful of mobs/a boss/a semi-boss trying to kill your mage (unless you're doing less damage than Taunt can handle, in which case you're safe) and every once in a while something always goes wrong (a key spell gets resisted, you temporarily put your warrior/s out of commission when he/she moves in the Aoe of your Cone of Cold spell, a Taunt goes awry and doesn't draw aggro instantly/gets resisted by some freak roll). Dispel helps, and so does the shifter forms.

Good topic
OK so im on my 3rd playthrough with the same character (wasnt happy with the first 2 playthroughs and made a lot of mistakes on my build).
Got Dalish elf rogue archer Bard/Duelist (plus asassin if you count awakening). It takes quite a while to build an archer as they are so weak and inaccurate to begin with, but with patience and putting the majority of you points in dexterity, you can deal a massive amount of damage from a distance.
Ive got Far Song as my bow and normally carry Elf Flight arrows. Also have Felons Coat armour which is the best archery armour. Helm of Honnleath to boost all attributes. Harvest ring and Ring of Ages.
Yeah i am very proud of this build as i can often kill most enemies with 1-2 arrows/hits. Harder enemies are dead in one hit with arrow of slaying dealing massive damage. Groups of enemies are stunned and pretty much dead with Scattershot.
*contented sigh* its a good life.
Also plenty of bombs and max stealth for those desperate moments lol.
I definately recommend building an archer rogue for anyone starting again

This is not about how to make the best build. This is more around how did you come up with your build.
I messed around with the XP glitch after I beat the game normally, just to toy a little with builds. I think I finally found a decent arcane warrior.
Will and con 30, Magic 45, cunning 24
I got all the arcane warrior skills, blood magic from that tree, All the glyphs. Animate dead, telekenetic weapons, miasma, fireball, rock armor, winters grasp, and arcane shield.
I tend to just run around with my 7 passives on, and use blood magic if I want to cast a spell. The arcane warriors shield talent is insane, but also leaves you with no mana.

I'm currently playing a Nightmare run 2H warrior with all my points going into Strength. I just acquired my Legion of the Dead armor set and the Key to the City. My 2H talents are all specced and now I'm switching between Berserker, Warrior, and Champions talents. As for gear that I'm fleshing him out with is Lifegiver, Chasind Greatmaul, Spellward and Andruil's Blessing. Feels good, real good but after making my npc mages Arcane Warriors, I'm thinking of rolling one after I'm done with my 2H beast

Level: 32 or so.
class: Warrior
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Spec: Dual Wield Warrior
Specializations: Templar, Berserker, Spirit Warrior
I'll tell you, this was by far my favorite character out of them all. She never died, always managed to kill enemies quickly, and kill many of them quickly, and she was able to survive without healing for a good bit. Definitely my favorite character. She uses the Sentinel set (which is bugged on the 360, taking the form of the Warden Commander Set, annoyingly), her weapons are Cailan's Sword and Duncan's Sword, and her accessories are the Key to the City ring, the Lifebringer Ring (I think that's what it is, bring a nice +con boost), the Spellward amulet and the Andruil's Blessing belt. Hoping to do another playthough soon.

Just finished my third playthrough of Awakenings on Nightmare. First was my AW/BtM/BM, second was my DW Champion/Spirit Warrior/Beserker warrior, and the latest was my S&S Champion/Guardian/Spirit Warrior. The most fun I had was with the DW warrior. Starfang and Vigilance kick butt. AW and S&S were too easy. Just turn on sustainables and have Nate and Sigrun as archers with Anders as a mage and every battle is easy. I had over 100 wisdom on my S&S warrior to run all good sustainables and had 3/4 of stamina for special attacks. I'm thinking I will try a 2H with my same female warrior soon. Never liked 2H in Origins, but they got some love in Awakenings.

I'm currently beating the final combats of Awakening solo'ing (well, with Sigrun, as you must have at least a companion with you) with my main char on Nightmare difficulty. My char's main attributes are:
57(+7) --> 64 Strength
53(+8) --> 61 Dexterity
30(+20) --> 50 Willpower
46(+33) --> 79 Constitution

I have a ton of characters, finished and unfinished for various reasons, including that some of their builds sucked! My favorite was Aren Mahariel, a Dalish rogue archer.
This was the first character I ever played in DA:O and, totally throwing myself into the roleplaying on this one, I picked his skills/talents based on what I thought a Dalish hunter would have: all archery talents, as the bow was his main weapon and he was extremely proficient at it; the first DW talent because he used knives to skin animals and such, and could use them as weapons in a pinch, at least well enough to get by (and DA:O has no single-wield talents!). I left him at level 1 of Poisons only, because he could brew rudimentary poisons from plants he found in the forest, but anything more sophisticated was beyond his skills, and gave him 1 level of Herbalism for similar reasons--after all, he could brew stuff from the good plants, too. Also, Trap-making, for obvious reasons, and so on.
In terms of how to allocate his stats and what equipment to get for him, he was definitely not my most optimal character. I wasted a bunch of stat points putting them into things like Constitution, Willpower and Magic. I also totally missed the best bow in the game due to my RP choices. However, I enjoyed playing the character so much, and it really got me excited to play an archer (I know some people have had bad experiences playing archers that have totally turned them off of the class). I even loved the Dalish origin story--although it was definitely not as exciting as some, it really gave me a sense of the apartness of the Dalish and set up my RP'ing really well.
I enjoyed it so much, I've since played three very similar characters, all Dalish rogue archers: Gendras, just to get the build better the second time around; Sahra, a female, to try different romance options and tweak the build further; and Alon, another male, to tweak the build still further and carry the character into Awakening (because I had Gendras make the ultimate sacrifice and I didn't want to ret-con him into Awakening).
I've played most of the other origin stories (except Dwarf Noble), and played mages, warriors, and DW rogues, but that character remains my favorite.

Just finished my Dalish Rogue build, and he was my favourite character by far! His stats were 28 STR, 60 DEX and 26 CUN. I found he was extremely hard to hit, and could dish out a moderate amount of damage quickly with 2 daggers. He became a duelist, and later a ranger.

Just finished my playthrough with a Dalish rogue archer and that was my favorite. That moment you connect with the first AoS is magic. I think I was drooling. You spend those middle levels being average as an archer, then BAM - you one shot a mage for 200 points. Totally awesome. Makes you actually feel like a Grey Warden instead of a tag-along.
He was a pretty standard dex archer; 20 str, 31 cun, dex ~60. Specialized in ranger, then bard but I didn't use the bard songs much. Passed up Far Song, but the other bow was fine. Utilized a lot of grenades in trying to play mostly my PC and get away from micromanaging one of the mages instead. I wish I had gone to the Deep Roads sooner to get bomb supplies quicker; I would have used them a lot more if I had unlimited supplies.
My A-Team was Al, Puddles (dog), and Morrigan + wolf or bear as needed. Really tried to play up the ranger aspect. Maybe should have used Morrigan's shapeshifting more to that end, but kept saying 'just one more spell' all the way through the game and never acquired the bear shape.
EDIT: I also had a B-Team with Al, Leliana, and Wynne that I used to mix it up, mostly for side quests and to hear different banter. But 2 archers and a healer was a bad mix for tough fights. Also used them when 'nice' was required from my party.

It's good you didn't. Forcing her to shift would've been like forcing someone to use Blood Magic/Combat Magic 24/7, or using Group Heal for no apparent reason.
Your whole group is basically two single-target DPS-ers (you and Dog) and a tanker (Al). I imagine you must've had a fun time with boss battles. I'm guessing Morrigan would've been forced to handle most of the AoE miscellany in such a group, so her shifting had to be downplayed.

When you look at it like that, 24/7 shifting does sound cruel. I guess you're right.
Yeah, that party was totally setup great for bosses and elites except I never got Mana Clash for Morrigan - that was the one thing that would have made them unstoppable.

all day i have been comming up with ideas as what kinda of char i wanna make but here i am at the end of the day and i havent startet playing yet and omg its sooo grading on my nerves cause i am the kinda guy who likes his chars to look the part as well as play the part, my problem is that i pref rogues over warriors, dont get me wrong warriors are all good fun but i wanna open chest pick locks and do more then look through keyholes and i just dont whant leliana in my party all the damn time so i pref rogues over warrios But there is just one snag and that is that i dont like dualwielding that much its all good fun but i pref a rogue with a axe and shield or sword and shield (not the norm i know) and there just isent any spells to make it work over lvl 18, you Hafe to put points into archery or dw or get 35 dex and more in Da to get new spells but my dex is very low cause i whant 22 cun 20 con (for does exstra hp) and then som in will but most of all i need 44 stre to get legion of the dead armor set for my dwarf nobel.
i thought about making a dwarf nobel archer But i think it looks stupid seeing a dwarf walking around with a longbow thats bigger then he is and it just make me wanna delete him right then and there so i hafe to stick with a dalish shortbow and they dont pack a punch and i really dont whant to be a underpowerede char.
also playing a dwarf nobel makes me wanna use a shield cause of the aeducan fameli shield and nothing looks meaner then a dwarf warrior wearing a set of the legion and caring a axe and shield

i have a question about builds, would a dwarf rogue with 44 stre 26 dex 20wp 18/20sta and 22cun be bad with using dueldaggers? i know dex is for daggers but hey shouldent stre add som dmg to?
