So, the Revenant...am I missing something?

Having acquired it, upgraded it, and done a few combat missions with it, I have to say that I'm finding it distinctly underwhelming. Everybody talks about it like it's God's gift to whupass, but for me it simply doesn't feel all that lethal. Partly, I suppose, this has to do with my playstyle, as the Widow got me in the habit of neutralizing enemies from a distance. And even on Insanity, when you thread someone's needle with the Widow, it FEELS like you're blowing them away. This, coupled with the fact that the Vindicator is a more than adequate tool for playing through the game on Insanity, makes me wonder why you'd want to replace it.
So, waht do I need to do to get more bang for my buck? What I'm thinking is this: close the distance to engae enemies at close range before switching to the Revenant and then fire three shot bursts at the chest/head area. I've experimented with this a bit, but haven't yet experienced the wow factor I expected to get from this gun.

What I tend to do is get up close and mow people down. The clip size and power allows you take out multiple people quickly. The Vindicator feels far too weak for my playstyle.

Lots of players who are used to mid to long range engagements tend to forget that weapons (minus SRs) have increased modifiers when they are at close range.
I've noticed this as well. Enemies that get close enough for it to matter, do wilt under the Reve's fire pretty quickly. But I am by nature a headshot ****. I guess it's a trade off between the Vindi being able to link multiple headshots and the Reve being able to score multiple modified shots at close range. Clealry, I have to change my habits to experience these benefits.

OK, I did two playhtroughs as a Widow soldier (the second one, on Insanity), until finally breaking down and starting a whole new soldier playthrough just to try out the Revenant.

Just FYI for people who don't know the difference. A machine gun fires rifle ammo from a belt or high capacity mag. An assault rifle uses lower caliber and smaller mags.

Since when is a machine gun fiction? Saw plenty of machine guns just like the one in the Rambo pic when I was in the service.

Close range, this thing is a monster. The extra damage and the fact that you are, in fact, at close range makes it a beast. However, this actually requires you to get into range, and on Insanity, that's almost never an option (at least, in my experience). I personally prefer the Vindicator/Widow combination myself. Why? Because when an enemy is close enough to bring the full power of the Revenant to bear on them, I'm not thinking, 'Yay! Easy Kill!'; I'm actually thinking, 'Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t! Get to cover! Get to cover!' I prefer to keep an enemy at range, so for me, the Vindicator/Widow combo is amazing. Other people don't mind being nearly dead and will charge in quite happily to mow enemies down. Is it wrong? No. It's just not how I play.

Have you noticed that when you see it on the table in the armoury, it's actually smaller than the Vindi? Kind of a strange art design decision. Sure, the thing looks huge on your back, but I'd think they would want to make it equally badass-looking on the shelf. As it is, it looks a little dinky.

What kind of ammo power are you using with it? This thing simply obliterates enemies with tungsten ammo, inferno ammo is pretty sweet too. Rev just wrecks people.
Tungsten. One thing I will say for a tungsten equipped Rev is that it makes a delightful mess is your target has a wall beind him. I unloaded on a Blue Suns merc the other day, and whatever he was standing in front of went all Ragu.

Lol, nicely put. I'm an inferno man, myself, especially when it comes to Collectors and Husks......I like my enemies to die slow and fiery.
The Vindicator is great, but I'm kind of trigger-happy (especially against the endless husks on the Derelict Reaper), and it's just so much more comforting to know you've got 500+ rounds at any given moment.
