While playing my Arcane Warrior I've noticed several spells that require I sheathe my weapon before casting. This often makes the spell much less useful, as stopping combat to put away my weapons before casting Lightning only seems to hurt my damage while draining mana. Arcane Bolt, however, works nicely as added damage due to its quick cast while my weapon is drawn.
I'd like to start a list of spells divided into two categories: those that require an Arcane Warrior sheathe his weapon and those that may be cast with weapons drawn. I feel the list could help Arcane Warriors plan their characters so they do not pick up Shock only to find many enemies move or adjust out of the cone before weapons are put away and the spell is finally cast.
Sheathed:
Lightning
Mind Blast
Walking Bomb
Rejuvenate
Shock
Drawn:
Arcane Bolt
Heal
Tempest
Force Field
Arcane Shield
Rock Armor
Combat Magic
Death Syphon

I would argue against "pointless." Many believe that arcane warrior is one of the most powerful specializations in the game.
That said, some advice: for those who are worried about the cast times, I would suggest simply slotting a staff in your secondary weapons slot. When you want to cast heavily, switch to it, and voila, you're back to mage-mode. When you want to swing your sword, switch back and boom, you're fighting.
I understand that limitations like losing a few seconds off your cast time can be frustrating, but that is part of games: understanding and working within the limitations, and finding ways to overcome them.
Chess wouldn't be fun if you could move every piece in every direction.
