So I have a crazy plan to allow players to import the save of their Grey Warden from Origins into my next mod... except I'm not actually going to let them import their Grey Warden.

What do I mean?  The idea is that the mod would be a new adventure with a different protagonist, a standalone mod set in Ferelden, but still reference the decisions made by the Grey Warden within the single player campaign.  Whether certain people are dead or alive and how major events played out will potentially have an effect on people's reactions within the mod.

Obviously this is possible (seeing as Awakenings does it), but I'm interested in knowing how the scripts actually work.  I'm just not sure where to start with this issue, so any pointers that people might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

My current train of thought and assumptions/guesses are:
1) I will to have to import the relevant plot
resources from the Single Player campaign into my standalone module to
get access to the plot flags.
2) I will need to somehow extract those setting of the plot flags from the saved game. (or will the game just pick them up automagically?)
3) I will need to "reset" the character and/or re-run the character generation process.
4) All this will need to be done in the EVENT_TYPE_MODULE_START of the core module script.

Any assistance or insight people can offer would be welcomed.  I imagine I'm not the only one who would have a desire to do something like this, so I'd love to know how to do it and share it with the community via the wiki.

I don't have any ideas at the moment (just walked into office, still sort of feeling like a zombie), but I do a comment. You suugest that this was done in Awakenings, but I actually thought it was the opposite. Isn't that what people were up in arms over? When starting their Orlesian Grey Warden (which is effectively what you want to do when giving the player a new protagonist, if I'm understanding correctly), their decisions made in Origins weren't upheld, due to technical reasons?

Either way, I'm interested in this as well, and if something pans out, it would be great.

True, Challseus, they didn't reset the character if it was imported. However, they did take some plot data from Origins saves, dictating whether certain characters were dead or alive.

You are correct, my aim would be to import the decisions from the Origins save, but give the player a new protagonist. I didn't realise this wasn't done in Awakenings for technical reasons. If so, that is disappointing, as I really feel it'd make a big difference to any standalone mods occurring after Origins or Awakening.
