Can I run it?

So I know my PC is a bit dated but I'm a little thrown by the system specs on the game. It says min spec is a core 2 single 1.6GHz, my processor is a P4 3.06GHz single core. Can I run the game? The processor speed seems fine and it seems to say you only need one core but is there an architecture issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated so I know if I can play a game I'm dying to get my hands on.

What graphics card are you using?

CPUs just aren't nearly as important as GPUs when it comes to modern 3D games.  A least half of the game performance (at least within easy recognition using human senses) is based on the video card, and from what you have written so far, you do not seem to have one, so you are out of luck, until you remedy that, sorry.

I have an 8600 GT. Didn't realise that would be a contributing factor, probably should have done. Thanks again for any help.

Actually, the physical CARD involved should work for you, if you can match it to a good driver.  nVIDIA concentrated on their high end, and didn't always test what driver changes would do to their mid-level cards, such as yours.  It seems that in terms of THIS game, the 8600 GTs are having a lot of driver conflicts.  You actually are BELOW minimum on that P4, but it ought to work for you anyway.

I'm running the game fine on a crappy Dell inspiron 1525, with an integrated Intel video card. If this thing can run it, yours should do just fine...

Min spec for this game is single core cpu (updated min spec on the game box, different from the one posted online) so you should be able to run it. Runs great on my Athlon64 2.2GHz single core. with the 8600 GT expect to run it on medium graphics.

Many thanks for everyone's help here, I really look forward to playing. My only concern now is the number of bugs that seem to be getting reported, after never getting mass effect past hitting the play button I may wait til christmas and see if they get sorted by the nice folks at bioware.

I'm running on a P4 3.2Ghz hyperthreaded (though mine is OC'd to 4.9 Ghz)... as long as you're running almost nothing in the background you'll be able to run it without a lot of hiccups (and since there has been some issues with processor affinity, you might even be in a superior position)

ya, you don't need more then a single core for this game since its not a affinity aware game. Single core is fine. I have a mid grade CPU and a good video card. Spending extra on the video is highly recommended for games. Having good memory chips and good video card are the true workhorses of computers running high-end games.

CPU are always outpacing and leading the technology and everything else tries to keep up with em. I read somewhere that in 20 years Silicon Valley will be at the theoretical limit you can push silicon to make nano-CPU's so they will have to start moving towards quantum computing if they want to keep the tech going strong.

I can't wait till quantum computers start appearing in as little as 10-15 years, games are going to be INSANE!!!!!
