Of course, if you want another character to win, others have to be downvoted. And a great many of the characters are well made and written. Some of them aren't even love interests.

Good point. With that, I'm going to hurt Tali right now. Not because I have a grudge against Tali, just because I like Mordin, Garrus. Joker and Thane more. And hurting the character at the top (Tali) is easier than healing 4 characters (Mordin, Garrus, Joker and Thane) at the same time. Think about it, it makes sense.

Agreed, but out of all the other characters you could possibly hurt?  And you 'just happen' to pick that one?  I understand you don't have a grudge against the character, but if you don't have a grudge, why bother to hurt said character?  I would eliminate from least favorite up.  That would make the most sense.  And if I had to narrow it down to one and not eight, and I was at the last two (Garrus and Tali in my case) I would flip a coin.

Of course everyone has different opinions, but why do -you- think she's boring and acts like a brat?

I don't deny that Jack is a well written character.  Heck, her background story and loyalty mission shocked me.  I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't what I learned.  Nevertheless, her violent and criminal attitude repulse me.  Also her excess tatoos (they make her look filthy), her foul mouth, and her lack of appropriate attire.  But I also pity her.

I like Tali (and really just Quarians in general) because, I simply think they're cool.  They created the Geth (a cool enemy when they were one) and they get a bad rep because of it, but even after it's all over, they are hated and exiled by everyone, which isn't fair to them because they've already paid the price for their hubris.  I like them because nobody (I'm talking in the ME universe) likes them.  I like them because they are skilled techs.  I think their suits are kinda neat, but I also feel sorry for them because they are trapped inside.  I like them because they are exiles.  I sympathize with that.
I like Tali because like all Quarians she's an exile in society and she's had a hard life.  She's shy, but she has an energy (which I find amusing).  In ME1, aside from my fascination with Quarians and everything else I've said, she was my tank-killer.  In ME2 her combat drone proved invaluable.  Then her character was fleshed out with the arrival of the flotilla and the death of her father.

See?  I can tell you exactly why I like or dislike a character.  And even though Jack is, by far, not my favorite, I admit she is well written and has even suprised me.  And I do admit that Tali's role in ME1 was nonexistant--it was strange, in the beginning she brings forth this damning evidence that proves Saren's guilt and is instrumental to the plot and the story, but then she disappears into the back of an engine room for the rest of the game, while other big characters like Liara continue to contribute.  That is odd.

So don't just tell me that you don't like a character, tell me why.  And don't tell someone that a character is not well written without evidence to back your claim; especially when I see evidence that indicates otherwise.  Our mere opinions are useless without details.

And if you hate a character simply because your letting insane fans get to you.  That is a little sad.  What a zealot thinks shouldn't bother you.

BTW, if you're having touble noticing, I am NOT a Tali-zealot.  She's one of my favorite characters, but that does not make me a zealot.  She is one of my favs in the same way that Garrus, Joker, Legion, Mordin, Kaiden, Ashley, Kenneth, Gabby, Thane, Jacob, Kasumi, Chakwas, Kal'Reeger, and Atheyta (is that how you spell it?  Crap, don't remember) are my favs.  And I can tell you why I like all these characters.
I'm trying to get you guys to think.

I'm not fine with it, but not like I can do anything about it outside of willfully ignoring it. That seems more trouble than it's worth.

ETA: Also I see that while Joker's score was changed, Tali's was not.

ETA again: No wait, Agape64 seemed to have corrected that, but anyone who only skims the last few posts will think Agape then used 8 points instead of 4.

Everyone's strategy is different. I upvoted my favorites (Garrus and Miranda) nonstop the first 2 rounds, and I would downvote the two I can't stand (Jack and Samara) but first I need to see Tali go. Don't really like or dislike, she had nothing new to offer in ME2 that she didn't in ME1 (unlike the Arch-goddamn-angel). There just needs to be balance, too many crazy Tali fanboys/girls.
