See. I was a wee child playing video games and I grew-up just fine to be a productive(ish) member of society.
Yeah, sweet memories of childhood past. My whole family participated in games, took turns playing Utopia, did Skiing (listening to the thumps as we fell all over the place) and boxing, played Ultimate Wizard and Jumpman once we got the C64. I miss that aspect of gaming - my brother and parents and I passing the joystick or controller back and forth, sitting huddled together on the floor around the TV. *sigh*
Most of the multiplayer games I can play with my family now are only 2 or 4 player games, and I bred too well and have a large and odd number of people. Where are the 6 and 8 player games of the not-so-distant past??
Ditto.
My friends and family, we'd also huddle around the C-64 for gaming. We'd often turn single player games into multiplayer - each person got to "control" the actions of one of the party members in Knights of Legend or Pool of Radiance, for example. Or we'd play Archon or M.U.L.E.
Those were the days.
Heck, up until the late 90's we were still doing that. In college my friend and my SO's bro would take turns at the keyboard while we played through Phantasmagoria or Bioforge.

I was never a Nintendo / console guy. My parents got me an NES for X-Mas one year and were very upset that I was like "oh."
It came with Zelda. I never got another game for it. What little NES gaming I did was at friends houses when THEY wanted to play. But most of my friends were part of the C-64 click, I had like 2 friends who had NES's instead.
I did have an Atari 2600, though I never finished either Raiders of the Lost Ark nor E.T. - I did love me some Combat and Yar's Revenge, though!
The first "real" console gaming I did was via the XBOX, and that was only because of the Buffy game and the Robotech game. I only got a 360 because Mass Effect was "never" going to be a PC game.
I know OF Mario, Sonic, Samus, etc... especially having worked at 3 rental stores and 2 video game stores in my life... but they're not part of my gaming experience.
