I'm on my first playthrough, my Warden is a female Dalish Rogue (+Ranger) Archer.  I've had a Tier 7 bow since the party was in a mix of T3/T4, yet I really feel as if I'm doing less DPS than Allister tanking, much less Zev/Leli/Morri.  I think the worst bit is I seem to miss CONSTANTLY, but the only rememdy to that is strength, no?  Which seems like something you only put just enough points into to be able to use armor as a Rogue... pointers?

Yep, you're doing it wrong.

Dexterity affects your chance to hit with bows, as well as your damage. If you're going archer you want dexterity, possibly some cunning if you want the lock picking talents, and also willpower.

Yup that last post just summed it up - its all about maxing out dexterity as much as possible with a little in cunning and willpower. There are some really good armour aswell for boosting these even more.

As for specialisations, Bard/Duelist works best as these can boost your attack and defense.

Well yes, I know Dex is the most important... but it's BY FAR my highest stat, and I still miss like crazy.  Can you look at my character, or do I need to change my av to it?

I see you're at lvl 13 with 34 base dex.  Just keep pumping whatever points you don't absolutely need for other stuff (strength for your equipment, cunning for persuasion/lockpicking, etc.) into your dex and you'll be fine.  I whiffed a ton at low levels too.  If you have a mage, you may also try stuff like Heroic Offense during combat.

What monsters were you fighting?

Range matters too, if you're too far from the mob you're shooting it you'll miss more.

Low level?  I'm doing Orzammar right now, which is the last place on my "to-do list" so to speak... done Dalish, Redcliffe and Tower already... so once I'm done here aren't I pretty much at the end-game?

If you go straight through and avoid all the side quests, you still can pick up 3-4 levels easily.  If you go through the various side quests, you should easily end up at 19-20.  Playing a few of the player mods (e.g., Tower of Dreams, Enigma Battle Dungeon) and/or giving allies supplies through the camp supply crates (e.g., elfroots) will take you to level 25 quickly.  Assuming you put 10 level-ups of points into dex, that's another 30 ...  :bandit:

Already done Denerim and most of the extras on the world map... not done Soldier's Peak yet though.  Also gaining levels through player added content would feel too much like cheating to me, hate to say... >.>

Part of the beauty of this game is that Bioware provides the tools for those with the skill to create their own quests, dungeons, etc to add to the game. It adds to repeatability. This is coming from someone on probably my 12th time through, modding everything I can Aesthetically. Playing player made campaigns, is no different than doing WK or RtO really, except they happen to be free:)

This is one of the reasons why you should try and get Aim as soon as you can. Aim with Master Archer is +15 attack (ie 15 points in dexterity) while doubling your ranged critical chance. It is a very powerful skill at low-mid levels

I asked about what monsters you were fighting because certain mages and undead (like the ones specifically found in Redcliffe, the Dalish treaty quest and the Circle Tower - jackpot for you) spam spells like Weakness, which lowers your attack by 10 (ie, dexterity -10).
It's one of the reasons why I always have a mage with Dispel.

Looking at your character you have definitely spread yourself too thin stats wise for an archer, early game you really need to go all dex all the time, I would also suggest the Duelist specialization asap, the first skill is a cheap sustainable that grants +10 attack.

This is the Archer that I have been playing sporadically (handily she is a similar lvl to your char):

Also, I can't be sure because I can't be bothered doing the math but it looks to me like you didn't go for all the permanent stat increases in the Fade.

Each point is +0.1 attack.

I've always found Aim a bit annoying, if only because it ends up taking so long to "cast" that sometimes I can't even get a single shot off on a mob before it goes down.

max dex as a rogue??? I mean, that's not completely awful but there are better builds...

Take dex to 35; dump the rest in cunning; get rid of ranger and go bard/assassin. Spam mark of death and make sure that song of courage is on at all times. If you want to use aim, get the repeater gloves from RoT.

Also use equipment that boosts Ranged Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Cun and Dex, Rapid Aim items. If you put Shale into Rock Mastery mode, you'll negate the aim speed penalty of Aim. If you play your cards right, you can achieve a critical hit chance of >50% and beyond.

Honestly I couldn't go anything but ranger... my "canon" character in fantasy RPGs is always a female elf ranger, no matter how gimped they may be, haha.

I recommend not haveing ranger as your spesh Yes i said spesh :) Use bard instead much better.

I dont reccomend going assassain mark of death will require u to be really close to your target, BArd/Duelest much better

OK I'm confused. I thought there was a dex bug on bows in dragon age. Is this not the case as everyone seems to be saying go max dex.

its been fixed

go max dex, get duelist as first specialisation and run with dueling and rapid fire on.  take leliana with you for her bard song (plus you can avoid cunning in your build and let leliana do lockpicking).  You could even use Shale in the rock mastery for the aura and just have her stand next to you with leliana assisting your target while you smack everything down.

Uh... despite what others have said, ranger is a very strong spec. Bard is good too, but depends on high cunning to really shine. In terms of pure damage, ranger >= bard. For your build, focus on dex, and enjoy the ranger--it's awesome. And before anyone says it, no, ranger pets don't steal exp. That's a myth.

Assassin is kinda lame for archers, because you have to be really close to use mark of death and most of the other talents are wasted on a ranged character. For a high dex archer, duelist or bard and ranger is really best.
