It has to fix some of the lingering issues with Origins that no patch has yet fixed since day one. (Or ignore them. They might choose that strategy. Console players, you may never see the Ancient Elven Boots or get that dex-bug-fix, ever. What can I tell you?)
It has to fix whatever 1.03 screwed up.
And it has to solve the numerous issues with Awakening.
Oh, I have no doubt it will take a long time, and I'm willing to be patient, but a little word always goes a long way.
Like "we're at work on 1.04, we know these issues, and please be patient with us" would go a long way; but it's irritating that there's no statement of that kind.

It is indeed a major task facing them. But it's par the course. We've seen Bioware, and even other companies put out a huge patch which fixes issues in a recently released expansion, as well as issues from previous patches, and issues with the original game all at once.CybAnt1 wrote...

And for starters, this patch shouldn't be called "1.04". 1.04 suggests another small one. It should be a much bigger advancement than a one-hundredth of a point in version scope. It should be 1.10.... or something like that.
The problem I see is that unlike previous games of theirs, here they have to contend with the different platforms (Xbox, PS3, and PC) and I suppose that's making the update process take longer. But again, I've seen devs come on here and play such a thing down in the past, saying that they have different crews tasked to each platform, so a simultaneous effort can happen.
But perhaps the real reason it's taking them so long is that they're all just busy right now holding silly auctions and thinking up New DLCs.
That said, I, for one, have a limit to my patience. This summer I plan on buying a new computer, which means I'll be re-installing my old games on it. But I sure as hell don't have the desire to install a BUGGED old game, not when there's no sign whatsoever that anyone plans on fixing it.

Maybe. What I wonder is why Bioware needs EA. Whatever EA does, it sure has more negative effects than positive ones...
One would think that a company with BioWare's rep wouldn't need some leech like EA at all.

This much waiting to be able to play the game without excessive issues is honestly shameful.
As a little sign of my disappointment, I'm also holding back purchasing the Kasumi DLC for ME2 until DA is patched. Not giving them further money until i'm satisfied of their work.

i still remember the 500 mb+ patches for medieval total war 2 till they got it into a playable state. at least the enemies in dragon age and mass effect 2 dont just sit there and dont attack haha
Actually I found quite a few instances of enemies (darkspawn) in awakening that do exactly that.
That's what made me close the game and move to something else until it's patched.

They just need to go back before 1.02 now my frame rate loves dropping had to turn off auto save to have the game actually work now if my power goes off or i freeze i better hope i remember to save >
Don't worry: autosave seems to be bugged too in awakening. (LOLS)
Seriously, it saves only in certain area, and if you trust the autosave function you find yourself in the situation many player experienced: your last save is 3-4 hour of gameplay back...
BTW, the game is that bugged I seriously wanted to have my money back with the warranty, but after having read the warranty statement i was dissappointed: it clearly states that the warranty applies only if the physical support (the disc) is damaged, and it does not apply for ANY software fault, becouse "AT THE MOMENT OF THE RELEASE THE SOFTWARE IS AS IT MEANT TO BE" (that is a translation from my italian copy)
Congratulations BW.

Why do i get the feeling we won´t see another patch for Dragon Age ever again, they must be busy with other games lol, you know EA is on their backs now... grumbling moooarrr gamies... release moooarr unfinished gamies... we need moooney.
An 1.04 patch is already on the way, and anyway I don't think Bioware would leave a game of this magnitude unpatched.
...although it's true that the patch is getting a bit late, too

Do you have a source for that? Because I see no announcement of a patch.
Although...
Maybe the "mystery date" (02.01.2011) is not an expansion but a patch (only 160 MS Points)! Fixing all the bugs from Origins and introducing only 50 new ones for Awakenings! And we will have a worldwide community-patch-party-giveaway (open only to US residents)! Can't wait!
