One other thing that just occured to me. If its a case of some corrupt files. Can DAO be reinstalled without doing a deletion and overwrite the existing files without loosing all of the char information?
Ugh, PATCH THE GAME ALREADY!

I have key to the City equipped on EVERY character...so that can't be it by itself.
You might be right. I just remember that someone in one of the "Silverite Mines Bug" threads (there've been a few of them, for those who somehow don't believe this really happens) listed a series of items that seemed to cause the bug to occur for her. I definitely remember that was one of the items. But she listed several.
The main point: I definitely recall all were from Origins, but not all were DlC.
I am starting to suspect there is a bug with the cut-scenes that involve the Architect himself..and these "combined" equipped items.
Would be good if this could be tracked, to determine exactly what combined items....say the Key of the City...and "named item" in conjunction with the Architect cut-scene..cause "this effect" (black screen with text for example or loss of equipment and or both)
Because as I stated before...I have seen that blackish screen with no figures..but text, toward the end of Awakening, your last encounter with the Architect before you hit The Nest.
But that screen goes away easily if you just hit your response ....I don't lose anything, nothing is bugged after..far as I know.

One other thing to note, when I first found out that dlc items wouldn't port (this was before the outcry on RTO dlc as it was basically brand new..and that didn't make sense)
I started selling all my dlc items that for sure wouldn't port. I made sure anything I wanted to keep..was taken OUT of the storage chest in Warden's Keep..and put in my inventory. I even stocked up on elfroot etc...and good thing I did. hehe
I sold stuff that I "knew" wouldn't port, and the reason being, is I could always use the gold from those sales. Gold does port.
Or the other thing I did was put the non portable dlc items on my companions...so either way it wasn't really a loss.
But I refused to buy some of the more expensive items...and perhaps ..(starting to think this as well)
People need to remember where they bought the expensive items..WHICH VENDOR. Maybe its the vendor in Origins, that is bugged themselves. That could be another factor.
Most times I would sell to Bodahn, but not buy off him except for the backpack. Could be Bodahn is bugged? I dont remember where the exorbitantly priced armor and weapons were located, what vendor. Bought Shadow of the Empire for Zevran...off the vendor closest to Dust town. But that wasn't 172 gold hehe.
I think perhaps I might have avoided this bug, because of not having bought some of these overpriced items.

Aww the bugs & glitches ... first part of the "saving the keep" quest ... the audio glitches were enough to drive me crazy, after killing the boss ... my PC's arm was stuck in the air ...hindering fighting until you swap weapon sets going into the basement of Vigils Keep. NO Sigrun or Velanna quest ... <who wants to spend 40 mins going from one point on the map trying to trigger her quest>
But I will always love the game LOL

There's still the matter of wrong codex entries at Redcliffe quest, and missing codex entries in Dalish Elf Origin.
