If you've played ME2 (which I trust you have) you will know that Dholen's resident star is dying far too quickly. Now, while this plot-point was only touched upon slightly and forgotten relativity quickly, I think there is a lot more to it.

The Reapers' codex entry explains that people believed that they "consume entire stars". While it also says that this is a myth, it might give a theory about what is happening to Dholen.

My theory is that The Reapers are consuming Dholen's interior energy, thus causing it to die a lot quicker. Why? I don't know, maybe this is how The Reapers get their energy? Maybe they're building an army? Who knows.

So, where does dark energy come into this? Well, according to the Mass Effect Wiki, "Dark Energy" is the fifth force in the galaxy which is the primary reason of the expansion of the universe's gradual acceleration. It can be controlled by Element Zero (eezo).

See what I'm saying? Maybe The Reapers are using Element Zero --which effects dark energy-- to effect the interior of Dholen, only that The Reapers are harnessing it's energy for their own needs? This ties in with the myth that tells us that The Reapers consumed stars!

...or maybe BioWare thought that a dying star would've made for cool level design. :?

Now, as I've said, this is only theory. I don't know if this is true or not.
Plus, I don't claim to be the next Carl Segan. I just find it weird that a random star within a random nebula in a random cluster in a random system is randomly dying in our galaxy.

Your thoughts on this matter, ladies and gentlemen? B)

I think it is pretty clear that Dark Energy will probably form the basis of some method of the Reaper's return/control. I think it was mentioned in the game that the Collectors (controlled by the Reapers) had high levels of dark energy emanating from them.

There has been a swell in the mentioning of dark energy, it was only mentioned a few times in the first game. But the evidence does fit, unless there are other factors that have yet to be revealed.

I think it's a good theroy.

Maybe its paving the way for a Mass Indoctrination in the Galaxy or something worse. There is always the "lol we are making a Wormhole" theory as well.

The Reapers have more agents than just the Collectors. You don't wait 50,000 years and put all your eggs in ONE basket.

I think you might be onto something. However, there's not really anything substantial yet; maybe or maybe not. It would be kind of strange they send us to find out about the dying star, and not giving any answers though.

And besides the "why?" is also the "how?" ofcourse. :) How do they drain it from the other side of the universe?

I think TIM is behind it, the sun behind him goes from red to white at the end. I think he managed to scavange a weapon from soverign and is making his own weapon.

They are Reapers after all; who's to say that they can't consume stars energy from the other side of the universe?

But why? Why would TIM do that? Why this one?

Well, there is a planet orbiting the star TIM is looking at. I am sure he is well aware of the Dark Energy "issue" and probably is looking into it as well. I am sure that green planet holds some interest for him.

We never find the star he is looking at, if it exists.  So it is probably somewhere we cannot visit yet.

The reapers are too far away I think, and tim is creating the weapon to advance humans and his interests, he's probaly testing the weapon out or needs a few suns to power it up.

That doesn't explain why there's Geth there (it is a Geth colony), nor why he'd send you there to recruit Tali and possibly find out or jeopardize his experiment.

If you mean the ending scene: that blue sun is supposed to be the ending shot of the Paragon ending, like ME1 had. It stays red if you take the Renegade ending.

Oh that's true. However out of all the cheesy Deus Ex Machina theories I have heard, one which has Reapers draining energy from lightyears away in the middle of nowhere, would be one of the cheesiest. :P

I do think there's more to the whole dark energy thing ME2 has mentioned multiple times.

Question being how are they transmitting the energy without losing it. Both electron stripping and ZPE conversion are supposed to produce absolutely huge amounts of surplus energy... which is nowhere to be found.

He's probaly confident Shepard won't find any info on him or thinks it's the best course of action. And are you sure about the sun being effected by renegade/paragon?  Maybe, if it's true, if you're renegade he doesn't need to destroy the sun because he trust you to do the job.  As for the geth, they're known for orbiting old quarians home, doesn't mean they there for the sun.  Having geth there mean tim won't be a suspect and that's why he picked it.

Then why isn't there a space-station near the star, then? :P

Hmm, TIM's 'Morality Star' being Dholen is one of the more plausible theories I've read here in a while. Certainly makes some sense, and even while not knowing it the result will be, it would make for one hell of a failsafe in case Shepard goes rogue.

Not sure, could be patrolling?  When I talked to the quarians about the geth possibly being responsible, I just got the feeling it couldn't be them, so TIM is my first suspect just because of the sun behind him .

It's not just Dholen, there's also Solveig. And Veetor mentioning dark energy from his readings on the Collectors. And Gianna Parasini saying there's been a number of hacking attempts against the businesses on Noveria concerning information about dark energy. They're laying hints left and right in the game.

If the Reapers have been consuming stars for millions of years though, how did life even develop?

Maybe they only do it every so often? Like, if they need star energy for some massive weapon that would eliminate all life in the galaxy? Who knows.

They only need it when awakening. Still doesn't solve the transmission issues.

Can we even be sure if the sun behind him is a real sun? Not just some hologram or something?

Hacking attempts on Noveria doesn't seem like reapers style, they're confident, I don't see them hiding, I see them attacking.  Collectors could be old dark readings or new ones but they're suns that are closer to the reapers, or one of the star the collector's is responsible for.  A lot of soverign debris disappeared and I feel there has to be a twist to come out of that.
