Which do you guys think is more fun? An assault sentinel or an engineer? And which do you think is more viable?

Thanks

Sentinel. They like to live.

Engineer. Take Dominate as a bonus power and you can lock down the battlefield. Combat drone works wonders against YMIRs and Scions.

For my play style I'd have to say Sentinel.

If you:

-prefer a more tactical experience, placing emphasis on your squad as much as yourself and trying more "advanced" tactics

-prefer staying in the background doing your thing

-like to create chaos on the battlefield

choose an engineer (dominate is a fun extra power, I love having it alongside my AI hacking)

If you prefer:

-a balanced character, capable of anything (defense stripping, aggressive combat etc) as long as you spec it right

-a character who is just as effective against any defense

-a character who can take a beating

choose a sentinel (I'd choose dominate or an ammo power as an extra power I think, depending on the type of sent you want, meaning defensive or agressive)

My personal, not really educated opinion ;)

^^^

This although I don't believe you have to stay in the background with the engineer but everything else seems spot on.

Actually that's true, sometimes I've played more aggressively, and been surprised by the results! Though your tactic needs to be as flawless as possible and on your toes at all times as agressive gameplay is IMO far more rewarding, but also far less forgiving when it comes to mistakes, especially for a more squishy class like the Engineer.
I did find myself destroying dozens of husks almost single-handedly in a side-quest actually, lots of dodging and weaving involved but the lack of scions made it a cake-walk... I also plough through Geth with Zaeed and Garrus. I think the engineer is one of those classes shines more at higher levels.

I found a liberal application of cryo blast helps make up for some mistakes.  I got to the point where I'd have about 4-5 guys per room frozen at all times just so I could run around and melee people.  Best freeze was 10 husks...that was fun.  Anyway you do have to be a lot more precise in how you play agressively but it works really well when you do it.  The same holds true for both the engineer and the adept which is why I took a shotgun on both of them.
