After discussing this in the other forum, and seeing this thread pop up, I began to wonder if their decision had more to do with the NPC's back stories and less to do with Shepard. Maybe the Mass Effect that the creators envisioned did not include a gay/bi Tali, Jack, Miranda, Jacob, Garrus, or Thane.
Just musing.
The writers dictate the direction the characters go in and their backstories, not the other way around. It's not like the writers sat down and said, 'Garrus is just a straight guy so I can't write him gay. Sorry.' Garrus is fictional.
Given any of these characters, any one of them could have been available for same-sex romance as none of them are clearly 100% straight. If the writers wanted to include a s/s romance, they could have easily written it in.
Hmm You confused me. Of course the writers dictate the direction of the characters, you're right it's fiction. If they write the characters as hetero, then that's what they are going to be. It appears to me that is exactly what they wanted in the ME story. Those support characters (the way they are written-not sure why I have to actually say that), are not intended to be homosexual.
So we are conveying the same point.

I dunno, Conrad seems to have an awful man-crush on Shepard...
I think you are looking for bromance haha. Except, Shep doesn't like Conrad.

....Nobody is ever going to say why SS romances aren't in. Ever. It would be best to just move on to be honest.
I guess I see it differently. I think they already said why it's not in.
Because they didn't want it in the story.
Yes, they are attempting to tap dance around the subject since it seems to be so controversial (not sure why...not every game has homosexuality in them, hell some games don't even have heterosexuality in them), but they did answer the question.
I guess it will always be a topic for discussion as long as the answer doesn't satisfy everyone.

But that's the thing. They have insinuated by political talk that it doesn't fit in the story but they are never going to directly say why. And that's how its gonna stay. At least in the ME trilogy..

I'm not arguing with you...I think you are right. I just wonder if they need to tell everyone why they don't want it that way?
It's their story, does there need to be another reason why?

That's what I think as well. Tis their story they can do what they want with it. But someone is always going to be upset with them. Whether they give a reason, include S/S relationships, or they don't. Someone will always not like it.

Eh, in the end who cares. I am voting Labour so Mandelson can rule Brittania as a gay PM to troll everyone. Good night.
And destroy the economy as his ilk are prone to? No thanks.
It's time for the party of Disraeli, Salisbury, Macmillan and Thatcher to save the country again.

Thatcher and the party of "There is no such thing as society"? Yeah that sounds good for society...

I feel the need to mention that you can't really write a character's sexuality without explicitly stating it. If Tali said, "Hey, FemShep, sorry for sending mixed signals, but I don't like women," I would buy it. Otherwise, I think it's fair to interpret it as Bioware cutting corners(especially for the idea of Garrus/MaleShep, given that he says his attraction to Shepard is strictly emotional, and he doesn't find humans attractive).Raanz wrote...
