Um. If you want to be lazy you can just replace the models.
You can do that now, get a save editor just before a sex scene, change gender, there you go.

Well they were willing to be lazy with the dialog, but they claimed they didn't want to be lazy with the animated scenes. Take that as you will.

I don't think you one should whine that much considering how many conservative people there are out on this planet, Bioware seems to be doing their best to balance all audiences, they did make Liara a homosexual option in ME1, but sadly they can't be too bold with content in the games, because they'd loose a lot of profit. That's just the way it is, lots of idiots who refuse to realize games are good even though they contain things that are different from what they're used to. Stupid fanbois who go and immediately label the game series as "GHEY".

Not that I give much of a **** about those people, but Bioware has to earn a good amount of money so they can keep making these wonderful games. Otherwise, no ME, personally I'd rather have straight, less provocative ME than no ME at all.

There is no substantive proof they'd lose a lot of profit though.  ME 1 still was a big success DESPITE the media attention.  Hell, it probably helped if anything.  Look at all the bad hype for Grand Theft Auto and no one gave two craps and they are huge games.

I understand Bioware's new position, though.  In the past they were strictly a PC RPG maker.  In those days, Baldurs Gate II selling 2,000,000 copies in its lifetime was a big deal.  Now they can push 2,000,000 copies of ME 2 in what, a week?  The sad thing is, as companies consolidate into bigger companies (Bioware into EA), there is less and less competition or differing voices.  Other than Bioware and maybe Square, who the hell makes serious RPG's anymore?

That said, doesn't mean we have to like it.

Nyeah but far as I know there wasn't any main character homosexuality in GTA, maybe some side-characters who were, but never serious, meaningful gay relationships.
You'd be amazed at the homophobia everywhere, it's not visible but there's more than one might think. "Gay people are agents of satan, closet vampires bla bla bla" I knew Christian kids like that.

What's very odd is that the boys in my class used to call Tomb Raider gay, when miss Croft is deliberately designed to evoke male hormones, so maybe it's not a homophobia related issue. Just stupidity.

I wish we lived in an era of closet vampires and what not. That might be interesting.

Oh look, it's this topic again.

This one had some potential, though, because Caliban made it. But alas, the community has already derailed it.

You'd get wry humor and general bitterness in exchange for losing your religious fundamentalism.  Think of the benefits.

We're not a nation of religious fundamentalism, that's a stereotype often repeated by bashers.

I'm not religious and I support keeping cursing and nudity out of content as much as possible. Cursing and nudity is okay if used for a purpose to conveige something,
but otherwise people would just plaster it constantly out of laziness
and greed. Both are cheap ways to get attention that might be okay in your country, we want to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

A standard that's made our content some of the most desired on the planet. So, I think we're doing something right.

Oh, and we have plenty of wry humor and general bitterness. Lookup John Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

How is  America not a nation of Fundamentalism?  Hell, I live in America and I call bs on this. If this country wasn't bult to go too the Fundamentalism part of America we would have Sex Sex Marriages all ready. >.<

Yeah right! John Stewart, Stephen Colbert yeah the french guy, and both are liberals face palms.

How else would this turn out? It's like a Shakespearian drama.  No matter the venue, it plays out the same.

Everything new that we add still requires extra content. Some people might argue in a case like that you could just have the same kinds of scenes that just work with different characters. But we wouldn't really want to have it that way. You'd want to take a proper approach to designing those scenes, otherwise you'd see the same scene.

Kaidan and Ashley would like a word with you...

Yeah, they would.  Liara, too!

Int he article, they do say that they try to offer more options as far as li's go, but they trade in quality.  I loved some of the ME2 romances, but overall, they are skimped, poorly paced and can't compare to the romances in ME1.

I also think that allowing girl-on-girl (meanwhile, not ever planning to include m/m romances) content just to appease the straight male shooter crowd is very sexist.  This is not Bw's only fanbase. Yes, lesbian and bisexual gamers can enjoy this, but that is not even BW's intent in putting this in the game.  So, thanks for considering your fans, BW.

Apparently they just have both actors record both dialog so they don't have to check if anything's missing later.
Or some such. Not sure if this is standard procedure for voice acting but there it is.

Honestly as someone mentioned earlier this might not exist as a criticism if the relationships in ME were deeper to begin with. The reason people harp on romance options is because if you don't have one with a character, then there isn't much to say to them in ME 2. The conversation cuts off abruptly if you aren't sleeping with someone. At least DA had the friendship and "I think you are my sister/closest friend warden"

Unlikely since Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale both did *all* of each other's romance specific dialog in both games.
It's easily seen in ME1, not very accessable in ME2 but the voice files are there.
The real reasons are almost certainly marketing related.

In the case of Mass Effect that is almost certainly true, and I think it's obvious why there are no same sex romances based on this news story and past dev comments. Anyone trying to find a truly noble justification for that is deluding themselves. It obviously comes down to marketability. However, the approach of writing one size fits all dialogue and then suddenly cutting it off if your character can't romance a certain NPC isn't new for BioWare. That was the point I was trying to make.

Getting Meer and Hale to voice everything is still cutting corners. It's just a less drastic version of it. If memory serves, the dialogue for a male Shepard romancing Kaidan or female Shepard with Ashley were practically interchangable to the heterosexual paths. If that isn't corner cutting, I don't know what is.

Aye, the VA read off a master script which has all the game dialog (including all romance dialog) IIRC.

It's illogical that she would flirt with someone of the same sex, but not take it farther than that?

The copying of the dialog saves time and cash, same way that avoiding extra animated scenes saves cash.

The character was written, and the character clearly will make suggestive comments but not enter a relationship with another female.

Tali was written and that is who Tali is. And the dialog was structured in a way that saved them some money. The answer is very clear. And "logical." You just don't like it.

Sorry, but are we discussing the "linking suit environments"? Because that didn't seem flirty to me, it just seemed like Tali telling Shepard she has utmost respect for her. Doesn't necessarily mean Tali's interested in a relationship.

Cursing and nudity isn't cheap or of a 'lower standard'.

Why do people take the Tali wanting to link suits/environments with FemShep as suggestive? Raan and Tali's mother did the same thing, it wasn't like they DOING it while she was giving birth. It's a gesture of trust.

Well, dialogue n eeds to be implemented properly in a scene.  Think of it as going in to record an album.  Say you record twenty tracks at 3 minutes a piece but you only have enough room to fill a vinyl.  So you cut out some of the tracks then work more on the ones that will be used on the album while allocating resources for the rest of the project.  In ME 1's case anyway they kind of used the same scene for the romances so they should have worked more on that I guess, but it was rushed.  I'm not defending them though.
