Annoying, atleast they are interesting, and you can be entertained, even if entertainment is hating them.

Besides for me Ash was ok, Kaiden filled both boring and annoying roles well. He had no personality, yet complained about everything.

Jacob dose the same, because he isso boring it annoys me. Also because when talking to him as a fem shep the dialouge annoys me.

I guess I'd rather have a boring character. I'd rather be stuck with a character that makes me go 'meh' than one that I actively hate (this is part of the reason it took me so long to slog through the Hope+Lighting sections of FF13, I found Hope so annoying I just didn't want to play the game).

This. I was leaning towards annoying being preferable, and then I remembered this game I bought last month where I wanted to kill off two thirds of the characters. Sadly, this game I mention had no suicide mission.

Boring.

A boring character may be, well, boring, but chances are I will at least be able to respect them on some level. I mean, I find Jacob as flat as the next person, but at least he's generally a good guy, priiiiize nonwithstanding. It was for that reason that he was my favorite character until Mordin showed up and I started warming to the rest of the crew. His only downside is that he didn't really have a character "hook" like the others or a strong personality to stand out, but other than that, there's nothing that bad about him.

In comparison, I find Ashley really, really annoying. She's arrogant, rude, and has xenophobic tendencies, and the way she treated Liara if they both confront you is absolutely horrible. She never had a chance in any of my playthroughs... partly due to the fact that she was up against Kaiden but largely due to the fact that I was so aggravated by her that I was pleased to avoid further interaction with her.

If given a choice between, say, Jacob and Ashley, I would pick Jacob every time, as Ashley is by far my least favorite character in either ME game.

Should add that boring and annoying are all in the eye of the beholder. I find Miranda borderline boring and borderline annoying, Ashley purely annoying, Jacob boring, and Kaiden neither boring NOR annoying. Your mileage may vary.

I'd rather have Annoying. Remembering someone, even for the wrong reasons, is preferable to me over forgetting them. That to me is like dissing the developers' hard work (or something).

Hmmmm giant douche or turd sandwich?

I'm going to go with annoying, actually. Given the way ME games have been structured so far, you have ample opportunity to harass (through renegade dialogue options) or kill off (through Virmire/suicide mission) an annoying character - and at least IMO such things can be entertaining. With a boring character, you just avoid interacting with them. So, Wesley Crusher-like child prodigy for ME3?

Boring is much more preferable to that.

Navi isn't that bad. At least she is actually helpful and can be ignored. Otis from Dead Rising is like Navi only far worse. The game punishes you for ignoring him by having him interupt you when you're trying to fight zombies. Then if you hang up on him, or get attacked by a zombie, he calls back 5 seconds later, criticizes you for hanging up, and then tells you the same damn thing. And since your constantly surrounded by zombies, this happens all the time.

On-topic: I'd much rather have a boring character than an annoying character, A boring character is just forgettable and usually doesn't hinder or improve the game. An annoying character just makes me want to turn the game off and play a game without annoying characters, or at least where the annoying characters are constantly killed. Like Stalker.

Jacob and Kaiden are about as boring as you can get but I can't think of any major characters in Mass Effect that really ****** me off in a bad way.

In ME3, I'd love to see a character who combines annoying AND boring, so we can leave them to get nuked like Kaidan/Ash on Virmire.

I think I'd lean toward "annoying". Seems like an easier trait to foil other characters off of.

Well if you saved kaiden and jacob you can have 2 characters like that.

The only other time I would want a annoying character over a boring one is GTA IV, every 2 minutes "Cousin, american TTS". Glad he died.

After seeing the phantom stupidity I can say with 100% certainty that I take the "boring" guy over Meesa annoying ye!  The problem with the annoying guy is that most of the time you can't shut them up and they break immersion.  For me that was the entire reason I never used the dwarf in DA.  I simply didn't want my immersion constantly broken.

I have to disagree on Jacob though.  I thought Jacob was fairly well done except for the one flaw that most of the character's backstory had.  The bad "daddy" thing was terribly overused in Mass Effect 2.  Other than that I thought Jacob was pretty decent and believeable overall.

Annoying characters still, at least, have something about them that makes them annoying. Boring characters are, well... boring.

So the annoying character wins. Besides, more often than not, an annoying character will grow on you and become lovable in the end. Boring fellows simply don't.

It really depends in what context on why or how they're boring or annoying.  I didn't find any characters boring or annoying.  Jacob was the straight-guy, and the most relateable to the Shepard persona.  All the characters were nicely personified with their own interests and motivations (save Shepard.)  I for one never "got" Jack, but she wasn't boring or annoying.

Now Harbinger was annoying.  He wasn't really a character, just a re-possessing voice spouting ridiculous one liners.  He was stupid annoying.  Any kind of annoying which is bad writing or personifies something negative one obviously wouldn't like, even for an enemy.  (Although in hindsight, I did want to kill him more because of that.  So in that case, stupid annoying was a good thing.)  Enemies, or an antagonist, have to be the most personified and fleshed out, perhaps moreso than the protagonist.

One thing we can say with BioWare: they can write characters well.  And I know we won't have a character like Chu-Chu from Xenogears joining the squad, so I don't think we'll have the problem of boring or annoying characters.

The character I did have an objection over was Dr. Chakwas.  She was a completely useless and flat character in ME1, and suddenly she's...a bit fleshed out and still useless.

I'd rather have an annoying one. Annoying characters can be amusing. It's also fun being a total ass to them too. Boring characters are...well, boring. And a lot of boring characters tend to be useless.

Annoying.

A boring character is useless, they don't really add anything to the game, because you just ignore them. An annoying character however, still creates emotions, maybe bad one, but they're still there which makes the game more interesting.

Adds an extra element to the game, that makes you feel like your not in control

Annoying, but only if you get to beat the sh*t out of them. It explains why I have a smile on my face every time I run into Conrad Verner.

Nobody said you have to talk to the boring characters.

Charlie from Charlie's Angels is a character, despite being nothing more than a voice in a box. Just because you never see a face and it talks through the Collectors doesnt it not a character. Maybe not a good character but still a character.
