The Origins dialogue system is way to go, the Awakening system sucks.

totally ignoring everything that has been posted so far I will state an objective and undisputable fact:
The Origins dialogue system is way to go, the Awakening system sucks.

Sure, it's cool that you get to have conversations that are location-specific, but seriously, I can start a conversation with Herren or Mistress Woolsey anytime I want but not with Oghren? What the heck is that all about?

Hehe. I posted this afternoon in the "bugs" forum thinking the Awakenings conversation system was not working properly! It's SO bad I thought it was a bug after playing Origins!

Ha- thats sad but true. Its kind of pathetic that you can have more fleshed out conversations with Herren and Mistress Woolsey yet if you want to chat with your party members you either have to interact with an inanimate object to start a conversation or go on a scavenger hunt across whole levels to find a tree or flying ship that starts a conversation when the person you're trying to converse with is STANDING RIGHT NEXT to your PC!
Ugh- I appreciate what the writers and devs were trying to do with the system in Awakening, but compared to Origins' system, it more often acts as an obstacle to getting to know the characters more than anything in Origins ever did.

Could it have something to do with the retarded TAB thing which could be easily fixed? And could it have something to do with the sheer amount of dialogues in Origins being way larger than that of Awakenings?
Because really, they won't the make the TAB misstake again and Awakenings was an expansion not a full game.
Why do you hate the Awakenings system so much apart from the abovementioned things?

I'm really interested in hearing why you guys want a system with dialogues that are the same in a peaceful camp as they are in a darkspawn infested cave or a dragon's lair and where the dialogues don't relate to the ongoing story at all.

I personally like being able too talk in any area, its more varied and visually interesting than having conversations in the same place every time. An example during the redclif invasion I accidentally clicked on morrigan while trying to grab some loot, I went with it and selected the kiss her option, got the obligatory disgusted Alistair response then had a scene of romantic music as the kissed covered in blood surrounded by flames and undead corpses. It was hilarious but memorable and considering those involved less than inappropriate. The thing is its a matter of choice if you want to talk at camp then by all means do so but some of us enjoy having the extra options. I would however like my companions to talk about what's going on during quests like when you could ask morrigan her thoughts on "curing" Conner.

However, not being able to talk to them in camp sucked. I liked having all those indepth conversations and options on what to say to them. It would be nicer though, overall, if there were more conversations about what you were doing. Like with Alistair pulls you aside to talk about Redcliff, or you can ask Ogrhen about Branka. They wouldn't all have to pull you aside, but it'd be nice if it seemed they cared a little more about what was going on.

I'd like to see a mix of both dialogue systems, although I like the one from origins better. The way it was done in Awakening left me unsatisfied - it felt as if my character was more like an outsider than a part of the team.
Origins was better- you actually got to know your companions even if you don't bring them to every single area. However, I did like how people would comment on random things we pass, like Velanna with the tree in Amaranthine. I think that we should have the Origins system, but with the occasional automatic trigger within a zone. With maybe 1 trigger per char per area - so 1 Morrigan trigger on the elves quest - the conversations would change if you bring people, but you could still have a relationship without bringing people on every quest. This was the main problem with Awakening for me: it was impossible to get Sigrun's personal quest without looking it up. Also, we would not have to hold down TAB if the triggers were automatic.

Awakening was a step in the right direction, though I hope DA2 has a mix of the way both Origins and Awakening handled things. There should be dialogs you can initiate at the base camp... but conversations that occur while on your adventures, and that are set off by certain enviroments, are awesome.
Special occurring conversation are of course awesome the problem people have with awakenings system was not being able to initiate conversations.
