So in my first playthrough as a Vanguard (ME1 save imported) I chose the sniper rifle as an additional weapon type when given the chance to upgrade a weapon on the Collector ship.

In NG+ my Vanguard starts with the Sniper Rifle as well. Does this mean I can unlock another weapon type once I get to the ship again?

Nope, you only get one bonus weapon type per character, no matter how many times you play through with them.
