Okay, I'm good now. I really should been checking up on this forum. I'm going to shut this thread down
for sheer massiveness and encourage y'all to start a new thread if you wish to continue the discussion.
End of line.

As a result, we have had to restart our groundbreakingly awesome thread, started by the
Gay Warden to 380 pages and carried over the 1100 page mark by Antilles333.

Before you guys go and look at our content, this is what our very own KFD had
to say about why we write all the time in this thread. Put into words that few can express.

The_KFD_Case wrote...
Hi Wulf!
There's been a truck load of good conversations, philosophizing, screen shots, poetry,
humor, good  natured camarderie and admiration/love for Tali's persona. It just came
to me in a flash a moment before typing this post.
We often speak of Tali and our fan enthusiasm towards her as though it were
a sect; the truth may not be too far off that description. Stated in short, concise
terms: We've become a movement. Each day the self-declared "Talimancers"
return, many of us familiar faces and some new. Our
exuberance and devotion to this place does not appear to be dimming as the
days go by - quite the  ontrary. And it is not because of this place. No, it's
because of what has been unleashed by the creation of Tali'Zorah vas
Normandy as a character. I trust we are all painfully aware that she is not  a
living, breathing entity as we have come to
understand such. She has become an ideal; her spirit  as awakened
something that has lain dormant deep inside many of us - each of us either
secretly aware that we craved something or perhaps going through our daily
routines unsure how  to place our fingertips on it yet instinctively aware that
something is missing. Each of us share
this yearning to one degree or another and it is a shared commonality that
forges these bonds  between us that have been strengthened over the past
few days. We are kindred spirits irrespective of our age, our experience, our
country of birth or native tongue,  we are alike becausewe have been
awakened inside. We've had one of those rare opportunities
that some people can search for for a lifetime to glimpse at our inner
workings, compare it to the  world around us and reached the conclusion
that regardless of our station in life it can be even better. That we as
individuals and as a collective group can be better- that we are already
becoming better thanks to the resonating ,complimentary effect we are
creating amongst  ourselves. It may sound melodramatic yet I believe with
an earnest heart and a clear mind that
the adoration and love the character of Tali'Zorah enjoys is a testament to the
recognition by many  here that there is a love that can burn so brightly within the
recesses of our souls that no darkness,  no matter how grave, can extinguish.
We, the so-called "Talimancers" - a term that may  have started out as a half jest,
have become a movement because we see clearly, perhaps for the  first time in
a while, that there are better and greater things in our brief existence than purely
material and selfishpursuits. That the values represented in
Tali'Zorah vas Normandy need not only apply to her but can apply to us and those
around us. That we can find such a love-selfless, honesty, compassionate, modest,
pure, brave and strong - and that it is something worth striving  for. It is for these
reasons that we have each come to love Tali'Zorah in our own individual way, and it
is for those reasons that she, the character of Tali'Zorah vas Normandy, has become a
rallying cry, a symbol.......And now I'm done.

But
no...no he was not...

The_KFD_Case wrote....
I couldrattle of a non-comprehensive list of traits that Tali'Zorah vas Normandy possesses
(intelligence, sweet, shy, earnest, quirky, passionate, courageous, strong yet gentle,
reasonable, a oice thatmakes grown men weak at the knees, a touch of mystery, etc.)
which are immensely appealing to many. Yet perhaps it is more succintly summed up by
stating that she represents a  figure that many of us yearn so deeply, even desperately, for;
like a drowning sailor at sea clings to flotsam to keep his head above the encroaching
cold water, so too are people here desperate- yet-hopeful that perhaps maybe, just
maybe, someday they may count themselves fortunate  enough to encounter a real-live woman
who encapsulates if not all of these traits, then at very least some of them. In short: Tali has
become a symbol of attainable perfection. It is a powerful thing for it speaks to a yearning inside
many of us and we feel its call. The character of Tali'Zorah  has reached out and captured our
hearts and our imagination and we want more. Much more.

Q: What can I post in this thread?
A: Anything to do with Tali of course! Fanfics, Fanart, tributes--anything!
Q: What's the purpose?
A: We're hoping our voices will be heard--BioWare must know their fans love and adore Tali.
Q: What can we talk about?
A: Again, any Tali speculation, or anything about Tali in general, as well as how we think she might appear in ME3. Want to make a difference? Be sure to change your signature
to "I support Tali for Mass Effect !" Also, be sure to include a link to this thread! Spread the glory
around! Only YOU can put Tali in Mass Effect 3!
Keep this thread alive, people! If it dies, so does TALI! Posted Image

--------------------------------------------------------------------

In my honest opinion, Mass Effect would not be the same without Tali. No
I am not exaggerating. Tali is amazing, and I am proud to call myself a fanboy
damn it. She MUST be in Mass Effect 3. Unless she dies, and you import
that is. If she lives, she MUST remain a squad member, and if you romanced her
she MUST remained romanced  in ME3. Wouldn't that be amazing, stepping into
ME3 with an already romanced Tali, and having a full on romance experience
throughout the ENTIRE game and not just before the last mission?

Supporting Evidence that Tali could likely remain a squad member: Tali's name is changed from
Tali'Zorah vas Neema to Tali'Zorah vas Normandy, meaning she's basically tied to he ship. I'm
assuming that she wouldn't leave, even if she wanted. (Unless BioWare pulls a mean scapegoat,
like  ake her an Admiral of the Flotilla... facepalm)
It MUST be done!../../../images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png

Removed image spam from the last few pages. We've been REALLY lenient with the character threads up to this point, but if it's all just going to devolve into spamming, chatter and memes, I have no problem at all with locking them all and banning them completely.

If I receive another complaint about this thread and have to come back to a few pages of off-topic chatter, memes, and image spam, I will lock this thread and not allow any more to be started. I also will have no problem with spending an evening going through the last few pages of the thread, editing, removing, and banning inappropriate content. I doubt anyone wants to be known as the person who got the Tali thread shut down.

So if you wish to continue having a Tali thread to talk about Tali in, play nice and show us that you can be responsible for one. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our community or this message, please let me know. Thank you.

Removed some more inappropriate and spam images, handed out more 24-hour bans for spam over the last 15 pages of activity.

Some notes:

Pictures of Tali are okay. It is a Tali thread, after all. But the regular forum rules, still apply. That means no swearing, no inappropriate content, no spam.

Meme images are spam. Images should not be the only content in a post (excepting Tali pics, of course), and images should never be used to replace discussion or conversation.

Don't respond to trolls. Not only is that exactly what the trolls want--a reaction to their douchebaggery--but in popular threads it completely disrupts the thread when everyone and their dog starts responding and crying to people to get back on topic and don't respond to the troll and telling the troll to leave. Ignoring the troll works WAY better and makes him much easier to spot.

Quoting inappropriate images equals posting those images; don't do it. Not only are you contributing to spam and posting those images yourself, you are making it that much harder for me to find and remove those images. I have to do that stuff manually and it gets really annoying when a bunch of people quote it to say how inappropriate or bad it is.

If you see stuff like this happening in your thread, for Pete's sake, report the darn thing!! I've gotten one complaint about this thread, and that was for the flag-burning pic. I didn't get one for the BBW pics, the bull defecating pic, or others even though they were off-topic, spam, and highly inappropriate for our community. So please, for the longevity of this thread and future ones of this nature, take responsibility for your thread and don't be afraid to speak up and let us know when something sketchy goes on. The "Report" button only moves so fast.

Also to clarify another comment I made: if this thread gets locked for too much spam, chatter, and nastiness, other character threads will not automatically be locked as well. But, because of the community's inability to police itself in one character thread, the others will be under increased scrutiny and it will take far less nonsense for us to consider them for locking as well.

What I'm curious about is can we go off-topic once in awhile so long as it's in good taste, or are we being forced to talk about nothing but Tali?

Absolutely. Going a little off topic now and then is natural when you have such a giant thread and a group of people talking about the same subject for along time. Remember, however, that Moderators do occasionally stop by, and if they see too many pages of off-topic discussion, they might not see "we're talking about this and will get back to Tali in a page or two." They may instead see "we're done talking about Tali and don't need this thread anymore." So it's always good to get back to the main topic after a few pages. That's "a few" as in 3-5, not "a few" as in 10-15. ;) I would assume that, as a bunch of folks who love talking about all things Tali, you'd eventually want to bring the conversation back to Tali anyway.

remy, you were very close to being banned.

Someone With Mass, you were as well with your Legion "topic?" image.

Again, please keep in mind that we are not IRC, a chatroom, or /b/. We are a discussion forum, and our Site Rules--which everyone agreed to follow when they signed up to participate in our community--reflect that. See especially Rule #1 (no spam), Rule #4 (we are not a telephone), and Rule #5 (stay on topic).

As usual, any questions or concerns can be sent to me.

I've now caught up to Jake's post of two Tali pics on page 2618. Over the last 40-50 pages (yes, I read them all), I've seen people talk about Deadliest Warrior, military special forces, weapons, people mentioning they're going to bed, people showing up and asking what they missed, greetings, people mentioning my involvement, people talking about what it all means, people talking about talking about Tali, people calling for a return to the topic every couple of pages, and of course, we can't forget the insults.

I think people have misunderstood my earlier post. When I said that a little off-topic discussion was okay, I did not mean 3-5 pages per person. And when I mentioned that off-topic discussion was okay as long as it got back to discussing Tali, I didn't mean that posting a pic of Tali gave you 3-5 pages of freedom.

No one was banned for posting Tali pics, not even a lot of them in a single post. Those "T-bombs," as you call them, were more on-topic for this thread than the majority of the posts I've read in the last 50 pages.

At around page 2614, there was actual discussion around pics and artists and talk of fanfics and I was overjoyed that things were finally getting back to some kind of topic and actual discussion about something Tali-related. I was planning on congratulating all y'all and thanking you for doing your part to help this thread. Then I ran into a sudden flame war, which I removed. After everything you guys had said about this thread and helping it and policing yourselves, after everything I said and threatened, and after discussing things in private with some of you, I couldn't let something like that be viewed by all and maybe destroy in one exchange what you all have accomplished over the last few months and thousands and thousands of pages of Tali threads.

Another thing: the Report Post button works, but it takes a winding, roundabout route to get to us. Better and faster to just message one of us. Blocking someone only prevents them from sending you a PM; it does nothing in a thread.

To the haters (of me or my actions): I'm not asking you to kowtow or walk away with your tail between your legs. I'm not even asking you to shut up, despite really, really wanting to. I'm asking only that you respect our Site Rules and try to keep this a fun community for everyone. Show that you have enough integrity and maturity to follow the rules you said you would when you signed up to participate in our community. I'm not trying to ruin your fun. I'm trying to save myself many more nights of reading for 2.5 hours, posting for 1, then getting 5 hours of sleep before having to work the next day.

I'm not convinced this thread is salvageable (50 pages of mostly spam and chatter, folks!), but it's late and I'm tired and annoyed. I'll give it another day to see how it goes before coming to any conclusion or taking any drastic action. Temp bans have been handed out, with others still to come once I can get some technical issues worked out tomorrow morning.

Goat_soldier, thanks for your comments. Your analysis of the situation was the most correct and your posts were awesome. Again, no one was banned for posting pics of Tali, but I am not at liberty to speak on any community member's status to anyone but that member.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled Tali. As always, questions, comments, death threats, and concerns can be sent directly to me. No need to disrupt the thread further. Thank you for listening.

Over the last 15-20 pages, or however many have been posted since I left last night, I've seen a real, concerted effort to get back on topic, and not just talking about getting back on topic.

Seriously, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your participation and your passion. I'm still not awake yet, but this was really nice to see and I hope it keeps up.

Phil725: "And I don't see how a mod could justify closing the thread for the actions of a few people coming in and purposely acting in a disruptive manner, it doesn't have anything to do with the thread, just ban those people. "

According to the rules everyone agreed to follow and be governed by when they signed up to post in our community, regardless of whether they like them or agree with them:

- Rule #1: No spam

- Rule #4: this is not a telephone, chatroom, IRC, coffee klatch, 4chan, or /b/.

- Rule #5: Stay on topic.

- Rule #11: We reserve the right to edit, move, lock, or ban any content or user we wish, at any time.

Familiarize yourself with them, because those are among my moderating guidelines and the guidelines of every Moderator here. You might just be concerned because they're now being enforced in this thread, while they weren't before.

But good job, everyone!

Relax, ladies and gents. I'm not expecting people stay always on topic all the time upon pain of death. I'm just asking for an effort to be made to cut down on spam and the 10-page-long off-topic chatter. If I'm scrolling through the last few pages of a thread, I'd like to see that there's something Tali-related happening, whether it be discussing pics, fanfic, or heck, even talking about how Tali relates to something flotilla-related or quarian-related, even geth-related.

the last couple of times I came in, I saw that efforts were being made, so I wasn't too big a jerk about removing some spam and off-topic material. At least, I hope I wasn't being too big a jerk. Yes, each and every off-topic post can be considered breaking the rules, and yes, technically it could be enforced strictly. But you guys are fun, you have a good, popular thread here, and Tali is one of my favourite ME characters, so I'm trying to give y'all the benefit of a doubt.

I believe that this thread can be mostly Tali conversation and Tali pics with a minimum of tangents and IRC-type chatter, and recently, I've been proven right. I'm only asking that you keep up that effort, because when this thread is on, it's fantastic and I really enjoy coming here. Just a modicum of effort from everyone to ensure this doesn't become a horrible meme-fest again.

And I'm always available to chat if you have questions or concerns about this thread, my messages, or the community as a whole. Don't be afraid to message me or ask questions. I may not always agree with you or give you answers you like, but I will always be as honest and open as I can with you. And I always endeavour to be as fair as possible to everyone, whether I agree with them or not.

These character threads are beneficial to the community and these forums, so it's up to all of us to try and keep them interesting, valid, and open. Thank you all for your efforts.

Thank you again for your comments and clarification, Woo. We really do appreciate it. I'm actually surprised you lurk here as much as you do, though I know it's your job to keep tabs on the threads.

it's not my job. My job is to test. Any Moderating I do is done during a break or while I'm waiting for something to load or whenever I have a moment.

I moderate because I love our community, and because you yahoos would get all shenanigan-y if I wasn't around. Also, I did warn this thread that it would invite closer scrutiny, and its behaviour would determine whether all the other character threads would also receive more scrutiny. And greater scrutiny isn't necessarily a good thing. Just saying. :P

I've been getting complaints about the off-topicness going on in this thread. The last 20 pages have been full of chatter, memes, off-topic images, and small talk that doesn't have anything to do with Tali. Responses are single line, and in most cases, single-word or emoticon, and quote pyramids read like people talking over IRC.

i have warned this thread/group multiple times about following our Site Rules and keeping the discussion on -topic. Since this is not happening, i'm going to assume that y'all don't have anything Tali-related to talk about anymore and that further discussion in this thread will be just a bunch of folks hanging out and commenting on each other's memes with "dem hips" and "d'awww."

But who knows? Maybe y'all have just grown comfortable here without any supervision. Since this thread has also gone past 10,000 pages, perhaps it's just time to shut this thread down and start fresh with a thread that I'm going to monitor as closely as I am able. Maybe that's what it will take to get this thread back on-topic. If not, then I'll close it completely and we'll be done with the Tali character thread for a while.

As usual, any questions or comments regarding this thread or our community may be sent to me in private message. Thank you.

End of line.

P.S. You're lucky I didn't check up on you guys yesterday. I was exhausted and cranky and likely would have boarded this thread up like an abandoned tenement.

:ph34r:EDIT: And since people are posting concerns about posts getting deleted, I don't like image spam, so I've been removing off-topic and meme images. i would have been a lot more strict about it, but I simply don't have the energy and I was going to lock the thread anyway.
