Pg. 44, middle section, second row, first piece. I really liked that one, it reminds me of a more utilitarian hazmat suit with light combat gear. The sort of thing you would see prowling around Chernobyl.

I actually wouldn't mind if the Quarian face remains a mystery completely. I always thought that part of the theme of Tali's romance was looking past the physical. Shepard likes her for her.

Yeah, that's pretty much the consensus, but I certainly wouldn't complain if they do show it.

Neither would I, but I'm somewhat leaning towards not showing the face so said theme is doubly maintained.

I don't know about that. It was okay for them not to reveal her appearance in her romance because that is logically the next step for the players to take in ME3 if they continue it.

What the quarians look like is common knowledge in-universe, I think it would be unfair for them to continue withholding that information to the audience. Especially since it involves a major character and race.

Some of these are really alien. Stuff like this is why I don't really believe the "intended to be an LI all along" theory.

Unfair? It's not exactly that important. Unless you mean to say because Shepard knows what she looks like but the audience doesn't?

I believe I read that the developers had considered Tali as an LI in ME1, but the idea was ditched due to false prediction that players would not be interested because of Tali's "chicken feet" and suit.

Lunatics.

As though Tali's suit and feet are in any way less appealing than whatever the **** the asari have going on...

The devs stated that during an interview in Giant Bomb.

I'm going with the fanservice theory.

People saw her and Garrus in ME1 and wondered why they weren't LIs, so they pretty much begged BW to make them so. And some people at BW thought it was a high risk making Tali an LI, just because of the suit and the *ahem* "chicken feet" Posted Image

Shrug.  Post-release revisionism.  Note that the concepts on p44 of the quarians don't even have chicken feet.

And didn't the quote actually go something more ambiguous like "we didn't know if people would like her"?  "Like" not necessarily meaning "want to romance."

It's the same arguement saying that Tali should remain faceless because Master Chief is. They are both very different characters who play very different roles in their own stories, in very different settings.

They shouldn't have given her the cute personality and DEM hips and DAT VOICE then if they wanted her to fail so badly. :P

Also interesting to see that the female 3rd toe isn't part of that near-final concept.

Disconnect between player and Shepard is a big enough reason in itself.  It kind of destroys the immersion of role playing when the camera cuts away and something that your character learn is kept in the dark from the player.

I just don't see the reason to hide Tali's face forever.  The whole underlying theme of the romance in general was Shep seeing past the suit and loving her for her.  How does him seeing her face once that's already been established change anything?  And moreso, how does the player not seeing it further prove that point more?  The mystery, and not knowing what she looks like isn't a factor in game any more, making it one for the player only doesn't make sense.

I believe it was the latter, actually.

At any rate, there's a big difference between "discarded idea during development" and "held back on purpose for sequel" which is what I'm saying I don't believe in.

Tired.

Internet being a jerk-off.

For every problem I seem to fix, a new one pops up.

Will be making more phone calls tomorrow.
