Shepard was never advertized as you personally though. He was advertized as John Shepard.

Sure, but just because the developer says so, doesn't make it true.

For example, I've never felt a connection between me or MC or Grodon Freeman, or any other characters that falls into that catagory.

Top.

I have to agree, the prospect of the fan depictions (most of which are disappointingly near human clone [which of course, isn't a commentary on the actual quality of the art, just the concepts]) drying up is tantalizing. I hope they make Tali rather average looking.

The only thing I actually want is for the quarians to actually look alien, and I mean in their faces, too.

I agree - they should be alien looking. No Asari clones. I am already taken out of immersion of the game with them.

So many people say this and I'm honestly curious how alien things can get when you consider the fact that their faces are already so humanlike.

Is anyone here really shooting for Tali being a shoggoth?

This confuses me as well.  I believe the reasoning is that people have their own beliefs on alien species varying widely, like humans to elcor, while Bioware has taken a more conservative approach with bipedal, human formed aliens being more the norm.  In universe, I don't think a human-like appearance for the quarians would be that odd, since in the ME universe, human appearance seems to be closer to a rule than an anomaly.

I am still unsure how much credibility we can lend to an obvious placeholder.

How about the established descriptions in the novel?

Are we to throw that away as well?

Uh...

Left shoulder angel:  NO!  Say "no!"

Right shoulder angel:  Yeah, for once I'll agree that you better listen to that guy.

No.

It's because I found the Asari being near human in the first place to be jarring, boring, and annoying. It detracts from the sense that Shepard is traveling the galaxy with aliens who developed completely separate from Earth's organisms.

You realize that's still quite humanoid, right?  Two eyes, nose with two nostrils, regular mouth, forehead, etc.

Same structure. Same parts.

Yet, they could still end up looking very alien.

We'll find out, I guess.

Of all the science fiction you could have chosen, you defile this thread by mentioning that?

Although I havnt actually seen it myself, my brother says that in ME1 you can come accross a quarian skeleton. Aside from the differences in the hands and legs, he says it looks exactly like a human skeleton

It's convenient just to change a few things from the human model.

I thought that was proven to be the "generic" skeleton you see in alot of places.

I don't have any other examples on hand. That have two eyes, a nose similar to humans in shape, lips, etc.

Something awful that wasn't worth the celluloid used in it's creation.

Sounds more or less like you agreed with my hypothesis.  That you believe that alien species would vary a lot more than Bioware thinks they would.

Granted, the ease of design/appeal to an audience is probably more of the cause of that than actual beliefs on their part, but the end result is still the same.  Human like races rising to power in different parts of the galaxy.

They have eyelids, lips, teeth, and ears unlike a human. Allow me to create a list of different possibilites that still fit the description.

- Horses
- Elves
- Koalas
- Bats
- Raptors
- Lemurs
- Badgers
- Deep Ones
- Batarians

Do you see my point yet?

I don't exactly trust a novel that describes body parts as: "to what passes for the quarian version of an ear"

But time will tell.

Alright... So we can toss away the in-game placeholder in favor of some of the worst descriptive language I've ever seen and we actually know less than what we did before...

Great.
